Willow woke in a cold sweat; it was because of a dream. The same dream she had for as long as she could remember. Her heart was pounding in her head as she heard her father’s voice one last time before she climbed out of bed. It was faint, the name of the man who killed him in the name of greed. He was supposed to be a good friend, almost like a brother to her father. This man took her father from her and she was about to end his life. As she stood and walked from her bed to the bath she smiled. Today was the day on the anniversary of her father’s death, the day her father haunted her as she slept.
He would be making a speech to unveil the project her father had created. What this man killed him over just so he could have more money. This seemed to be one of the main reasons people hired her to kill for them. In her line of work there were the most basic reasons she would be “brought in”. One of those reasons is what fuelled her to get out of bed earlier than normal. She was going to taste the sweet revenge she craved. Today that man was going down and he was going to be brought down by Black Widow. She tapped the mirror in front of her three times and did the same to the sink before turning it on.
As she looked up after splashing the water on her face she saw a familiar glow from beside the bed. Her phone had buzzed to life in an attempt to wake her. Her face broke into a soft smile as she turned to start the shower before shutting it off the alarm. As she looked at it a reminder popped up glancing at it she closed it and went about her business. After she stepped out of the shower she glanced at her phone for the time. It was a bit early so she got her wig and outfit for the day ready.
Soon it was time to leave; she climbed to the roof from her fire escape leaving the stereo on playing the same cd it did every day. It was her work out music and her neighbors knew not to bother her while this played. She aimed the gun at the podium smiling waiting for the perfect shot. As soon as it was presented she took it and packed up grabbing the shell casing and headed back inside. Once inside a neighbor was at her door asking if she knew why there was a commotion across the street.
“What do you mean Mrs. Johnson?” She asked the elderly woman who lead Willow into her apartment on the front side of the building. As she gazed out the window she saw people screaming and the chaos. “I’m sorry Mrs. Johnson I don’t know, what was going on out there before this?” The elderly woman explained what had been going on and pointed to the television where they were explaining what had happened.
The young woman’s phone buzzed in her pocket reminding her again about the meeting. She apologized to the elderly woman before hurrying back into her apartment to ready herself. As she left she waved to another neighbor who waved back as he was pulled behind his dog. Turning the woman’s silver wig cut into a bob whipped around to her face. She stopped and smiled again before checking her watch three times. ‘Oh good I won’t be late’ she thought as she walked into the coffee shop. After picking her table she texted her contractor a picture of herself so he could find her. Now it was time to wait.
