She heard him get up and walk to the door, heard him put his hand on the doorknob. But she didn't look back. Alyss looked anywhere but at the door as she went from window to window, making sure that not a single ray of sunlight could get though. They only had an hour of darkness left. Unless she got this finished now, she wouldn't feel secure. Finally she turned around, surprised that she didn't hear the door open. He was still there, standing at the door as if he was unsure of what to do next.
His words soothed her. She knew that at one point or another all vampires have killed at least once time in their existence. The only reason she even mentioned it was because she didn't know what else to say. What could she say? She didn't know what to tell him so he didn't leave without making herself sound like the lonely old hag that she was. "There's always a choice,"
Alyss said at last. "Always." There was. She chose to become the monster that she was today because when her husband attempted to murder her, she didn't want to die. Not by his hand, not die betrayed by someone she loved. When he said he wanted to stay, she knew if her heart had been able to skip a beat it would have. Reluctantly she moved away from the windows until she was standing in front of Zero. "If you want to stay, then stay. I know you won't let me give you the bed, but there's a very comfortable couch." For once a real smile, although a shy one, crossed lips. Alyss lifted a hand and let her fingers brush the edge of his jaw. Her touch was so light it could have been mistaken for the brush of butterfly wings. Embarrassed she quickly dropped her hand and looked away. 'What's come over me?' she wondered. This wasn't her. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Did he have a choice? No she was wrong, he knew what had to be done to keep himself under control and that was the rules that he followed. Never again would he hurt someone so innocent or kill the ones he loved. This is why he kept himself locked away and emotionless, he didn't want to be that monster that he saw in her eyes. Zero knew there wasn't much time left for him to decided this but in his mind he already knew the answers that he had been asking himself the moment he saw Alyss. In that moment that she touched him, even if it was just slightly and barely there to a human. He could feel every second that her fingers were on his jaw and if he could feel joy he would have exploded right there.
When she finally dropped her hand he was able to focus back again and that was an odd sensation, to be lost in a moment. That hadn't happened for decades but he looked at her. His face held the same stone expression it always did "You're a Psych" he finally said, that's why he felt he didn't have to suppress his emotions. She was taking them from him and at that moment he wasn't sure if he liked it or not but he did know one thing. 'I like her' he thought to himself and looked up to her and actually looked at her. A small distant twinkle in his eye that hadn't been there for years.

Time stood still for Alyss. He didn't look at her with disgust. Didn't reject her. Didn't even turn away. What did this mean? It meant that she wasn't alone, even if it was only for a brief moment. It could ONLY be for a moment, because that was the way life was for her. Every time she manged to find her own personal slice of heaven, something happened to take it away. Right now, all that meant to her was that she had to enjoy it while she still could. She couldn't help her self. Alyss lifted her hand back to his jaw but instead of moving it she let it linger there. Would he turn away so she was no longer touching him? Would he slap her hand away? Leave? All she knew was that she felt something she hadn't felt in so very, very long - joy. The question was it his or hers? Both? There was no way she could possibly feel all this joy... it was too much for one person, for one vampire, to feel.
You're a Psyc, he had said. Alyss was slightly disoriented, but it wasn't from blood or the man's memories. It was from the powerful emotions they were both feelings. Even though his face was an emotionless mask, she could still feel his emotions beneath the surface, especially when the small bit of physical contact they had. Quickly she dropped her hand. "I am,"
she confirmed. "It explains why I have the scar on my neck, and another not an inch above my heart, and why I so disoriented after drinking that man's blood. Is this a problem?" She asked. One eyebrow was raised, as if she was daring him to say yes, it WAS a problem. [/blockquote]

Zero was out of place, here he was standing in this luxurious hotel room in a five star hotel, a place he never dreamed he would be standing. Not even with the money he had saved up, no his money was locked away just like he was. To never be touched, seen or heard of. But here he was with Alyss just barely touching his jaw and making him feel amazing but there was no denying the fact that he had to get going and get back to the school. Zero was saddened at the fact that she dropped her hand from his jaw again but his face never changed and his posture never changed. He could tell that his answer to her question was more then just a mere question, he could see it in her eyes. There was more that she was looking for "I was just confused at a few things that you had responded to the other night and now but I couldn't figure out how you did that with out me saying anything or showing anything. Then it had dawned on me" was all he said, he knew it wasn't a yes or a no answer but it was what led him to figure it out. Zero wasn't like other Sanguines vampires. He just lived his life, if that's what you would call it so why would he prevent others from living theirs.
Zero brought his hand up to her cheek and rubbed his thumb back and forth. Her skin was so soft and her lips so plump as he ran his thumb over the bottom one. He looked into her eyes "I have to go, I'm sorry." he told her softly and this time he dropped his hand turned around and actually walked out the door this time. He walked through the lobby of the hotel and out onto the street, the sun was just beginning to lighten the sky and he had probably less then half an hour to get back to the school but his pace stayed the same. It was not hurried and he was not worried. That wasn't him, he didn't worry or wasn't afraid...at least not on the surface. All Zero did was pulled the hood to his cloak over his head and made sure that the front of his cloak was closed tightly shut so the wind wouldn't blow it open.

Alyss knew that he avoided answering her question directly, but she didn't comment. By the sound of it it did seem like it was a problem. Instead of perusing it further she let it drop. If the answer was no she didn't want to hear it. She didn't think the answer was no when he caressed her skin, but before she had the chance to reply to anything he had walked out the door, leaving her with a strong sense of loss and longing as she watched his figure retreat down the hall. This time as he walked away, she didn't call out to him. Alyss let the door close, and after the slightest hesitation she slid the lock into place.
------------------------------
When she finally did return to Lilith's three days later, the only time she left her room was to go to class and snag something to eat. Each time she went out she went out of her way to avoid running into Zero. There had to be a reason why he left Halloween morning. She refused to be anywhere near him so he could explain why he didn't want to be around a psychological vampire. After three weeks of avoidance, once again Alyss ditched class.
This time, instead of her usual spot by the lake, she found herself wandering into the music class. The teacher was on leave for this week so there would be no students or teachers to bother her in hear. She sat at the grand piano and let her fingers lovingly caress the keys. There was only one thing she loved, truly loved, and that was a piano and music as a hole. She wasn't worried about someone hearing her as she played Beethoven's moonlight sonata. Her fingers danced across the piano keys as the room was filled with the calming melody. It wasn't a very difficult song to play, but it was beautiful all the same.

On his walk home he went over every little thing that he could remember, he wanted to enjoy those moment's over and over again cause he knew that he had probably hurt her but he had no other choice. He made it into the mountains and from there he wasn't so afraid of being hit by the sun so he let his cloak billow out but he kept his hood up. Returning to Lilith just as the sun peaked over the mountains he let out a rush of air that could be classified as a sigh. He had still obeyed the rules which means that he can have another chance to go out in the town. *~*~*!*~*~* Every night after Halloween was awkward, Alyss was no where to be found or at least for Zero. But he continues to go about his nights, class, sleep, and meals. But that was about it, he was glad when his roommate finally came back cause then he had someone to talk to. "Hey buddy" Zero felt a slap on the shoulder but he didn't jump or start to breath hard. For a vampire it was hard to be surprised when you could every little footstep and breath taken by those around you. "Hey Jordan" "So you actually gonna come to the mess hall?" Zero turned his head and gave Jordan a blank stare "Hey I had to ask" he said as they walked on down the hallway "So what happened?" Joradan asked shoving his hands in to his jacket pockets and looked at Zero out of the corner of his eye "You can lie to me all you want and we can go around in these circles like we have a million of times before when we first became roommates" Zero rolled his eyes and stopped right there in the hall "I know and that's why you are the only one that I can talk to cause you are the only one that can tell what is going on under the surface and why I have to do the things I do. You were the reason why I started liking Psychs in the first place but that is just the thing. I am dealing with a Psych of a different sorts...she..." "It's a girl. Someone you talked to while I was gone" "Now come on give me a little break. Can we discuss this later?" Jordan nodded his head with a huge grin on his face and just walked into the mess hall. Zero took a turn and walked off down a different hallway, he was just going to go back to his room. He couldn't find Alyss anywhere and frankly he was getting really tired. It was nearing two months since the last time he had feed even from one of the schools bags and he was feeling very weak. Zero stopped halfway down the hallway and leaned against a wall. His head was spinning and he was sure that he looked paler then normal. "Come on, you are stronger then this" he told himself and then pushed off from the wall and kept walking.

Oblivious to the rest of the rest of the world Alyss remained behind the grand piano as she tapped out the melody. The song switched to Mozart;s "Lacrimosa", which was one her favorite songs by far. Before the plague, her mother used to play it for her and her twin brother all the time. She couldn't help but smile at the memory, even though thinking about all she had lost made her sad. At least she wasn't wanting blood. Psyc vampires were able to go months off a single feeding, as long as they were surrounded by people and plenty of emotions. It was one of the many perks the Psycs had over the Sanguines. It also made them incredibly rare. There were less then 10 Psycs at Lilith's, and having that many psycs in one place alone was an oddity. She glanced at the clock. It would be time for "lunch" soon, but she didn't want to leave the music room. Not when she had this beautiful piano in front of her.
Alyss' fingers flowed across the keys as she switched from calm and soothing to something much more dark and sinister. What she was playing sounded like it belonged in a horror film instead of the music room at Lilith's.

Zero looked up from the ground to the hallway, his room seemed so far away. Hell it was at least another hallway and then he would have to go down several flights of stairs just to get to his hallway and then he would have to walk down that to finally get to his room. He took a deep breath not like it would help him but it was just done out of habit and he tried to straighten himself some more. But as he did that and started to walk a little he felt himself falling sideways again. This time instead of hitting the wall he felt himself leaning against a panel of cold wood. When his eyes finally focused on the object it was too late he was already plummeting to the ground.
He hit the ground with a loud thud and he could hear a crack from some where in his shoulder. No matter though it would only take about an hour for his arm to heal up once he put it back in place "Crap" he called softly to himself. He rolled over on his stomach to try and get back to his feet but stalled. He heard something... "could it be?" He held his head up as much as he could to see someone sitting at the piano in the music room. He had never heard anyone play such wonderful music, he could only describe it to other people when he played. They didn't get it, the way music was suppose to be heard. Zero rolled a little onto his feet and leaned over a little to see someone he didn't expect to see. "Alyss?" He called again over the music but before she could answer he realized that she probably didn't want to see him and here he was intruding on her music though he could bring himself to leave. One because the music was so beautiful and two because he couldn't move he was so weak.

Once again the piano tune changed, but this time her voice was added to the music."The dust is clearing, the desert is calm. The skies are all quiet and I can't make a sound, and I just wait for you. I'm calling for a savior to show me where to start, and all who still remain are whispering in the dark. And we just wait for a sign. So this is my once upon at time, so this is my star-crossed wasteland."
She was pulled away from the song as she heard something fall against the door. Alyss lifted her eyes from the piano keys just in time to see Zero fall into the room and onto the floor. Her fingers kept playing the melody but her singing stopped. "Yes?" She asked, raising an eyebrow in that way of her's when he called her name. She didn't stop playing, because even over the piano music her sensitive ears would be able to pick up his voice even if he was whispering. There was something wrong about the way he was standing. She stopped playing, and the last note echoed around the room before falling into silence. "You're hurt," she said at last. Suddenly she was at his side, not touching him but close enough to catch him if he fell again. "What happened?" [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Oh god it was her and here he was falling into the room like a helpless whelp. He coughed into the back of his hand and it felt as if his stomach was going to upheave what little it had but that was the thing, he couldn't believe that there would be anything still in his stomach to come up. He saw the look on her face and that only confirmed that he looked as dreadful as he felt. "I'm fine, really" he tried to convey to her cause he was. He was just feeling weak from the lack of blood, he knew what he was doing was insane for any Sanguines to stave themselves. "I'm sorry that I disturbed your playing, I was just trying to get to my room to lie down for a bit" he said getting to his feet more and using the wall to stabilize himself. "Nothing happened. I'm just an idiot, a very stupid stupid idiot" he said turning to leave the room but as he took a step his hand shot out to grip the door handle 'Not now, please not now' he chanted to himself. He could feel his hungry growing, so that was where all his strength was go. His body was taking over his mind, it wanted blood and now. He thought that by starving himself that he would be too weak to hunt but his body had other ideas and it wanted blood and his body would have it one way or another.

He said he was fine but he didn't look like it. "If you were fine you wouldn't be holding onto the door for support. You helped me get to my room so I'll help you to yours. Then we'll try to find some help for you." Gently she took his arm and slung it around her shoulders, then put her arm around his waist so he could walk without falling on his face. But when she touched him, she felt that something was off. Then it dawned on her. "You're starving yourself," Alyss whispered. It was a statement, not a question. All she could think to say was "Why?" Sorrow filled her gray eyes as she looked up into his. She had seen this happen to countless vampires, so she knew all the symptoms. If she was correct he probably hadn't fed in a month or so. If he didn't feed soon, his body would start attacking itself. By the looks of it, he didn't have much time left. Instead of helping him walk to his room she gently helped him into a sitting position on the floor. "You need blood, and you need it now. I've seen this happen before. It won't be long before your body eats itself from the inside out, and from the looks of it, it already started. I don't know exactly what this will do to you, but.... I'm not giving you a choice." She pulled a small knife out of her pocket and with one swift move slashed it across her wrist. Vampire blood was 100 times stronger then human blood. She had watched Sanguines feed other Sanguines their blood when they were first created, but Psychs were born alone. She had never seen what happened when a Sanguine drank Psych blood, but it couldn't be that different. Besides, if he didn't get the blood from her he would be getting the blood from another teacher here. At this stage he probably would have to have vampire blood or... she didn't want to think about it. She watched as her blue blood trickled down her arm. Psych blood was blue.... Sanguine was a red so dark it looked black. It was another reason why the two races were so different. "Drink," she commanded. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

She seemed so shocked that he was starving himself, she was a psych she should have already known that. He knew that his mind would wander to it and stay there for long periods of times but she apparently didn't pick up on that. He let her put him in a sitting position "And?" He wasn't sure what she was getting at by that statement. He knew what he was doing...well for the most part and he knew that he would be ok, he had done it once before and he was still here instead of a grave like he should have been. Her words came across a bit fuzzy to him but he still grasped what she had said and as he watched her slice her wrist he had to stop himself from turning away from her. "No! I can't!" he exclaimed, not because she was psych but because he couldn't do it. 'Not her, I can't' he thought to himself but as his eyes became entranced from her blood he couldn't pull away.
"You...don't..." he words were far apart and even he wasn't sure what he was trying to say. It looked so appetizing and it was right there, free for him to take. He had to shut off his airways again but he was still leaning closer and closer to her open wound. 'Don't do it! You truly are a weakling!' He screamed at himself but nothing happened.

Clearly he was struggling to keep himself from taking the blood, but he was so weak.... it worried her. "Shh,"
Alys whispered. With her free hand she used it to gently caress his cheek. He seemed to be wasting away right before her very eyes. Maybe that was an exaggeration, but she could see him suffering. FEEL him suffering. Even before this she knew he had been suffering a little, but she wasn't a mind reader. She could read emotions and take memories, not read thoughts. She saw him move closer, but still he hesitated. Carefully she placed her hand on the back of his head and tilted it back. "It'll be ok." She held her wrist close to his lips so that a few drops of blood trickled onto his lips. Now it would be his decision to drink, and if he didn't... well, she was stronger then she looked. It shouldn't be too difficult to grab his head and force her wrist to his mouth, but she hoped it wouldn't come to that. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

He looked at her and was worried what would come of this, how he would be after he had blood...her blood at that. He was in control of himself, his thoughts and actions but after this he didn't know and he didn't like not to know how things would go. Especially when it came to himself, he couldn't be sure that he wouldn't become rude, mean or even sadistic. She tilted his head back and he tried to pull away from her but didn't have the strength or the will to move away from her. Her scent was enticing and her blood looked delicious. As a few drops landed on his lips he couldn't help himself but lick them off, it tasted so divine. He reached a shaky hand out but when it came close to hers he stopped, he was still unsure and afraid of the repercussion of her sacrifice for him.
"Zero!" A call down the hallway, a voice sounding worried and rushed. Jordan ran down the hallway, frantically looking in every room, every crook in the hallways. He had to be close, these emotions that were coming from him were strong and Jordan knew that Zero was to weak for these emotions, that he could not resist this temptation that was making him feel so good and warm. "Zero!" He called again rounding a corner and froze. The sight before him made him stand still, Zero was sitting there so close to an open wound dripping blood from another psych. 'This must be her. The girl he talked of' he thought to himself as he drank in the scene, he could tell that Zero was at the end of his line and could not hold out any longer. He only had another week till he could feed himself but he wasn't going to make it "Zero, you must be careful. You only have a week left. Zero! Look at me" He demanded.
Zero finally wrapped a hand around Alyss' arm and pulled her bleeding wrist to his mouth. He knew soon that if he didn't drink from it that the wound would close up. He wanted it bad and he had given in to his desire. As he was about to place his lips to her wrist something or someone called to him. He couldn't focus nor did he want to, all he wanted was that blood. But his head snapped to the side to see Jordan standing at the doorway, he was too late. Zero was ready and willing to do what he had to do to be strong once again. For once a full smirk came across his face revealing to long sharp canines and an evil look came in his eyes. Then he turned quickly and dug his teeth into her wrist drinking to his fill. "NO!" Jordan screamed and bolted towards Zero.

As soon as his lips touched her wrist, something curious happened - instead of feeding off of his memories, he was feeding off of her's. She wouldn't loose any of her memories, but he would be able to see them too. The face of a young man flooded their minds. He was devilishly handsome, with dark hair and eyes. The memory vanished, only to be replaced with one of the man standing at the alter, with Alyss looking up at him. "I do," they both said. The memory changed, this time to one of Alyss watching helplessly as the man slashed a knife across her neck. He seemed to enjoy watching her lay on the floor, but what amused him was the way Alyss tried to curse him with her last breath, but all that came out was a bloody gurgle. Unfortunately she didn't die fast enough for him, so he stuck a knife in her chest and left. Alyss turned her head to read the names of the tombstone at her side. One read "Here rests Adam Cooper. May this child's soul rest in peace." The other said "Here rests Alana Cooper, beloved wife and mother." The memory was replaced by another. Alyss was sitting in a tree, looking inside a window. There was the same handsome young man, this time with another woman. Both were richly dressed and lived in a beautiful house...
"No more,"
Alyss gasped, as she attempted to pull away. "These are MY memories..." She pulled away just in time to see Jordan call out for Zero. Only a week left? she wondered. "Who the hell are you and what are you talking about?" Alyss demanded, as she looked up at him with a bleary look in her eyes. [/blockquote][/blockquote]
