Cadan gave her a small frown and a shake of his head at her words about the difference between their chantry and Templars. The difference was the reliance on the Chantry here in Fereldan other than in Tevinter. While people here begged Andraste to protect them, it seemed the people in Tevinter worked for their own survival. Slaves were allowed and magic was free to use, no matter how ghastly...the place was the Chantrys worst nightmare. "There is a method to the Chantry's control here. Though it is strict and unjust here and there, they are trying to prevent another Blight and trying to prevent what has happened in Tevinter. No offense to the place but I prefer to think I'm doing something better than abusing Lyrium and promoting corruption." He said before he glanced at the road ahead. They hadnt seen anyone for miles. Was this a less traveled season? ~~~~~~ Maraas sat and listened to Fenris speak, though it drew a few questions from her. She wouldn't ask them though, since his past in Tevinter wasn't something to discuss infront of strangers. The dwarf looked back and nodded easily. "You are confident. I suppose that counts for something, and the hired muscle will make people think twice. Heck your height alone might intimidate. Your tall for an elf, like a tree. My brother said you were all smaller, then again he said all Qunari were bigger. I suppose you two are odd cases...so why all the wandering Fenris? You must be headed somewhere is you paid the gold necessary for A mercenary..."

" None taken- I hate hte place but the templars aren't all bad- only a majority of them. Some were just born into the wrong place, others forced into it- some just do it for the blood money they generate- its horrible there- few stand up to mages any more...I'm glad to see here they do, makes me feel better actually." he said to him wondering if she sonded like a traitor to her home place for speaking like this or mages and such- their chantry and templars- calling them corrupt and weak. She never really cared what others thought as long as it didn't threaten her life directly that was.She however noticed soemthing which made her frown," We havn't seen a person in miles Cadan...Is there travel seasons here? Or is it all just random chance?" ~~~~~~ He already had a lie made up for this because he knew people asked questions easily here so he had seen so far. "Yes, it is quite nessecary. I'm looking for something to do- I left my family in hte alienage for a better life- I might seek out the Dalish perhaps- but I wanted to see the world first." He said easily as it was any elfs dream supposidly to leave a bad place to the home lands of its people.

Cadan knew what she was saying and understood it, but he couldn't help but find her last bit a bit disheartening. Yes they stood up to mages...but that produced a fear in others of magic in general. Not to mention control seemed to be their way about things, complete control as to take a young mage from their family to be sure they didn't fall into dark magic....In all honesty Cadan found it too harsh especially with the Circles way of handling its new comers. They either became parts of the Circle, made Tranquil or died... He remembered watching Brielle cry for hours when their father said he would send her away, their mother being powerless to say much in the way of helping her. She knew the price of being a mage was losing her freedom to the Circle, forever...she couldn't be a normal girl anymore, have the same friends or even speak to the same people...she was alone. Her talk of travelers made him snap out of his thoughts and glance around. "Normally people travel often. We are close to a port town after all...you'd think we'd see more merchants in all honesty...this road leads to Denerim I believe." He said kicking his horse's side to make it trot ahead. "I don't think we can leave much up to chance...though I'm not sure what could be keeping everyone off the roads." ~~~ Maraas ignored the lie since she didn't approve of it. She understood why Fenris told it but her morale didn't allow her to endorce it. "All elves and that Dalish mess. Don't get me wrong. More power to you for leaving the rat hole Alienage, but forest life ain't easy on city elves. Took me about a year to get used to the topside world." He said and Maraas looked a bit iffy on the conversation. "Alienage? What's that?" She asked, looking to Fenris. She had never been to big cities so she never saw what the Fereldan's used to separate elves from the populace.

"Ohh... could it be dark spawn?" SHe asked in a sarcastic spooky tone with little hand move ments fro ghosts. She burts out laughing at that and looked about before settiling her eyes on Cadan," Just saying- this is a rather odd coincidnce unless the sight of you scares others that bad." ~~~ At her quesitons Fenris smirked," Its a nasty place where poverty and disease run wild because of hte poor living conditions of the elves who wish to live in a city. They are treated terribly but they get a small community out of it- so they are in poverty and dirt togther." He said a bit of spit added to his tone to make it seem more realistic that he was from one- he however we from a well off family- he himself had never been to one in his life- nor knew anyone from one. He bathed almsot every day and was only to wear the best of things and eat the best of things. He never went hungry, always slept as long as he pleased and was taken care of. So most of this was from what he had read and heard from others- nothign more.

Cadan smirked at her mention of dark spawn. That was way before his time and too long for him to even picture what one looked like. His mother told him they were terrifying beasts, ones that she had seen when escaping Lothering in the second Blight. "And would you not be scared of a big bad Templar? But in actuality it's probably just a coincidence." He said before giving a shrug. "The merchants have their times for travel and people usually keep to themselves here." He looked across some of the landscape and saw a few sparse farms here an there. "I suppose your used to the city by now though..." ~~~ Maraas's mouth fell open at talk of the Alienage. It sounded like a terrible place, not somewhere she'd want herself and her friends to be. "That's sad...why would people be treated like that? Even the Viddath-bas have clean homes back home..." She said. She was a softy for people in bad situations and in all honesty she wanted to help these people but she knew as herself he couldn't do much of anything for them. "Because if you haven't noticed people suck." Tom said and Maraas looked to the small man driving. "Not all people...some are nice." She said, just guessing his meaning. Tom scoffed. "Yeah, some..that's a few too little for my tastes."

She gave him a cute scared look when he asked and she giggled afterwards," Nope- I don't find you scary at all." She sadi as hse heard that he felt it was just coincidance and letit go,"I'm used to the city to be sure but I perfer my home lands in Seheron- its all landscape- rolling hills and lush forests in some places...The weather is always warm and forgiving-its nice....In Tevinter there are too many damned plants and idiots and mages to boot." She said almsot sarcastically as she looked over her shoulder at her liking to keep pace pretty well. ~~~ He touched her arm lightly at her words," Most people take advantage of others and are evil in most lands. Not all are nice people."He said as he looked about and knew how TOm felt, he was silent however not really feeling liek talking right now since he didn't know exactly what to talk about now.

Cadan gave her a smirk. "Not scary? You hardly know me. I could be secretly insane." He said with a small raise of his brow. "Sounds like a pretty place. I never was much for the wilderness. I'm from a small town near Redcliffe. In other words, not much green, more rocks." He said before giving a shrug. "You make it sound like there isn't much dirt and rock where you were..." ~~~ Maraas shook her head when he mentioned bad people. "Not everyone is bad Fenris. You can't make a lot of friends if you think that way." She said her head tilting slightly as she saw something shiny in a box that distracted her. They made camp after an hour on the road, the dwarf stopping at a small clearing. He rolled out a few bed rolls and made sure the two had at least something to sleep on. "Make yourselves comfortable. It's a long trip in the morning." Maraas couldn't help her yawn or the fact her eyelids drooped on the verge of shutting. But she didn't feel comfortable just sleeping in an open area like this. Too many things could go wrong. That and she slept like a rock, especially when she was that tired. She was out and not even an explosion could wake her.

"Cliffs are the only real rocks we see besides the quarries, and how do you know that i can handle crazy? Ive had my share of things in my lifetime..." She said with a smile as the rode on glancing occasionaly about to see if anyone was about. She didnt see anyone and sighed," fereldan is too quiet it makes me nervous..." She eventually said wonderig His thought on it. --------- Fenris nodded at her words but let the conversation fall. When they set up camp off the road and in a small opening he smiled, he thanked tom for the bed rolls and looked about noticing Maraas looked uncomfortable. "Im not yet tired Maraas so you can sleep first- i will keep watch." He said with a smile as he took his ataff and was going to go put up some boundry lines and some traps to alert them of some one approching. He was a rather light sleeper so it wasnt a bad thing for him but he didnt know how eeryone else slept and he didn want eveyone wakig up to see he was a mage if he had to defend the camp.

Cadan couldn't help his smile at her words though he was being cordial not to laugh. Her mention of the area around him made him give a small sigh. "Well if it were busy I would worry I guess. We are out in the middle of nowhere. And besides you don't like the change of pace? No mean mages or plants to cause trouble here." He said with a small look towards the horizon. "It's getting to be about that time. If we take a trail up here that comes off the main road, we'll be in a small town by nightfall. Do you mind small? There isn't much else in the way of a town I suppose if things are this quiet." He said, since it was very true with Fereldan, nothing was ever close. ~~~ Tom gave a snort at Fenris's offer. "You stay up and let the beast sleep huh? Odd way you run things." He said, since he still assumed Maraas was a hired guard. She nodded however, knowing she could trust Fenris. Not completely but he was still trust worthy enough to sleep around. "Thank you, Fenris....Wake me when you need to sleep please...." She said, easing down to the ground, actually not even using the bed roll. She was too used to using the ground from other jobs for it to make a difference. She used it as more of a pillow and instantly she was out like a light. Her breaths were audible, not to the point of snores but definitely she was asleep by the sounds....

She nodded and followed him up the trail towardsthe town, they made i there in good time howeer the sun was a crisp yellow with mellow oranges and reds as well when thy placed the horses in a stable for the night. In the in. She smiled when there was a bar, she needed a few drinks- it was actually a good idea for her else she got bitter on this trip and tuined i for both of them including Fenris when and if she found him at all. They got a room with two beds in it as it was cheaper and settled in for a dinner made by the inn keepers wife- the meat was questionable however she didnt mind- food was food. " so you going to stay up and have a few drinks with me Cadan? Or are you a tight ass templar like all the others?" She asked in a teasing tone as she took a bit of her stew. ----- Fenris smiled at the Dwarf but let it be. He watched her pass out quickly and smiled lightly watching te dearf go about and prepare food, he stepped into the forest like area about them and began settin traps- magic traps but low powered enough it would do anything like cause an explosion of fire or anything likethat- just ensnare and trip up anyone who didnt know it was there or know what to look for the inthe pitch black of night. He went all around the enclosure to be sure and left plenty of space so others could venture out to relieve them selves in privacy. After wards he came back and set his staff down by him liking to have it close in theae circumstances of uncertainty. He looked to tom and frowned a bit," you know, ive never seen a Dwarf top side, im a traveler sure bu even in antiva city there were no dwarves- mostly shemlin and elves... Does trade strickly bring uou top side?" He asked wondering what he wa doing top side when he had read before the dwarves feared falling into the sky but he found that too silly to ask.

When they arrived at the inn, he contemplated going straight to sleep--well he should say to think because sleeping brought on the dreams he'd rather not repeat...However Luka's offer made him pause and smirk. "Well with an invitation like that how can I say no." He joked before spooning some of his stew, giving the contents a curious look. "As long as a few means a few of course. I'll be honest and admit for my size I'm a light weight." He said, since his drinking ranged to not very often. The Circle wasn't allowed to have drinks and the town he mainly stayed in knew he was a Templar and could only spare some without his superiors finding out. The last time he'd been caught in the towns tavern even mildly buzzed, no less with a mill owners daughter in his company, he endured a particularly horrid day of punishments and threats. Brielle wouldn't speak to him for a week after that, something about him being careless or something rather.... ~~~ Tom looked to Maraas at her heavy sleep and briefly wondered if she was really a mercenary. The girl just looked like an oversized puppy at the moment, curled up and sleeping almost like a child. Tom's eyes however were back on the attempt at a water logged soup he was making, when Fenris spoke. The question was expected and Tom only could expect he heard the silly fear dwarves had. "Well yes, the money did bring me up here to some extent. But my wife was the other half of that bargain. She was a firey thing that always wanted to go topside to see the world...." He said before dipping into the vegetable and white meat soup. He seemed lost in a memory a moment before he cleared his throat. "She was from the Diamond district. Family member of a Paragon. Lost the title and everything to follow me topside. Almost wished we had fallen into the sky like those other idiots believed....better than losing her to a fever." He dipped out a bowl of the soup and offered it to Fenris. "Old recipe. Good for the stomach and it fills you up." He said before taking a seat. "So why the Dalish, Fenris? You're a free man now. Why settle down in a tribe somewhere? You've got the open road ahead of you and no one telling you where to go...Sounds ideal."

He had expected the retort o course but n to hear about his wife," my apologise about your wife, but to me freedom isnt anything with out structure. The Dalish are free of course but they have structure that everyone craves inthe end- a life is meaningless with out some goal or achivements." He said easily sicne it was true. He took the soup gladly since he ate like a starved child most the time- and it wasn't his fault. He ate slowly trying to stretch ou the meal since he ate his fill or close to it that morning. ---- She smiled at him," ill buy, and yes i intend on actually sleeping welltonight a good black out night cap is just what the doctor ordered." She said with a smile as she ate more of her food. She ordered a round or two with dinner bu stsrted on the heavy stuff afterwards, herself not eating more then a bowl of stew and a few bites of bread was tipsy as was obvious by her desire to want to talk to almost everyone- most the men there completly obliging her in good himors that a pretty and rich it seemed traveler was castin her eyes on them tonight. She had one man inParticular- a sleese by the look of him trying toalk to he a bit more his hands continuously trying to her hips where she kept her coin purse however she skillfully avoided his hands and went about until he over stepped and grabbed it full on , her hand grabbed his own and a dagger was suddenly keeping his now bloody hand pinned to the table by Cadan. A scowl mired her pretty feature, her cheeks slintl red from the alcohol," if you think that for one moment I can be taken advantage of you are sorely wron you ferelden dog. Leave before I take your hand just for fun." She said pullin gout her dagger then man cradling his hand ran like hell out of threr, pursing her lips she looked at Cadan then smiled," so shall we play a drinking game? I feel like playing a game with you Cadan." She said in an enthusiastic tone and a mile, making a guy she had been talki g to give Cadan a slighlyy dirty look since he was taking her attention. She pulled out a deck of cards and shuffled them," come on play wih me Cadan- im sure you cant suck at cards too much - plus ive been drinking im in it for money- but drinks!" She said almost excitedly at the end as she expected him to let her win everytime so she could drink but the loser had to drink as well- makig it a tather fair game in her opinin.

Luka was certainly a sight when drinking. He understood the mens frustration at her fleeting attention in them and more towards her drinks. She was a pretty woman, with an attitude to back the looks. One man found out the hard way when she very nearly took his hand for trying to rob her. Cadan frowned at the sight, mostly because he had been watching the scum scope her but he wouldn't be the person to break his jaw since she could handle herself. If it was one thing, he didn't like people taking advantage of others, no matter the reason. Call it his damn moral compass... He was quick to change his mood when she looked at him with an enthusiastic look, sparing her one of his best smiles since hell, what man wouldn't like to piss off another? After all, squinty over there seemed to think he meant something to Luka more than an ally. At mention of a game he gave her a shrug and a slight chuckle at being told he couldn't be too bad at cards. "Sure, why not. What are the rules?" He asked, since he wanted to keep her in this mood since he potentially ruined it earlier with talk of her past. He was still on his second drink, despite her quickness with stronger things. He was trying to keep himself lucid incase something did happen and they ran into the wrong situation. ~~~ Tom nodded but gave him a funny sort of look. "I suppose that's why you left your high born home huh? I'm not dumb enough to think you get that soft of hands from an Alienage..." He said looking him over once more. "I can smell Lyrium on you too. I mined the shit for years. Look I don't judge and I'm not on any sides up here. That was a quick and smart lie, just not to a dwarf." He gave a bit of a shrug. "If its a purpose your seeking. It's nice thought, I respect you for it. If your looking for the Dalish, I'd head south after Denerim. That place is bad news for Elves...the current Lord is an ass hole that thinks he can just keep beating the populace down. You won't like it there and neither will she. He has a personal sort of vendetta against anyone different...." He was just telling him to be kind since he knew Fenris wasn't lying for more a reason than to protect himself.

She smiled and dealed two cards to him and two to herself before puttig the rest fo the deck in the middle between them. "You need to get a 21 or as close to it- if you pass it you have to chug- if you win you odn't have to drink if you don't want to- got it? The goal of the game- go threw all the cards the most sober wins!" She said throwing her hands up almsot excitedly as she went oer the rules and took a rahter heavy drink of her ale already, before setting it in front of her. She took a card from the middle and smiled at her hand before putting them face down on the table,"If you need to add a card to your hand becuase its too low of a number then take a card. You can take a max of 2 cards Cadan- and remember- I will make you dirnk with me. You promised the moment you smiled." She had a thought as it was seen crossing ehr face with a bit of a light smirk,"Well I guess if you don't want to be drunk- as it might seem since I'm on glass seven and you only on two- I'll just drink for you. That sound better to you Templar?" She added to her assessment of the situation with Cadan. She was open to admit her was raher attractive company however she knew hat templars were usually sworn off girls and drinks, it was custom even in Teviner however it seemed this one didn't care for the rules. She knew she woud'nt get into troubloe with him around- he seemed the big brother type. ~~~ He wasn't even surpised that he figured that out- most would if they looked him over well enough. Finishing his sou he got another bowl full and smiled at the Dwarf," It does have a disticnt smell. My hands however won't look this nice for long. I left for a reason for hardships didn't I? However I didn't lie to you- I just was rather indirect about things. Ive read about lots of places, however Ive only been allowed certian places due to my... status...And for the record- Maraas- she isn't my hired muscle- she is a freind, and she is strong. I thank you for your opinions in this place however as you said- I have hte air of a noble and I have the hands that haven't seen a days work in my life- I have the coin to back my words and a few freinds to back me up. I think we will look about but we won't linger." He said wasily before eating yet another bowl of hte food and smiled relaxed afterwards as it was doing good to fill his pit of a stomach.

Cadan nodded at the rules though he hadn't played something like this before. Her comment about his drinking however made him consider her. Her face had a blush to it, her smile feminine and teasing. It made him want to forget the situation and say yes....and honestly what did he have to lose in this situation? There wasn't anything else the Templars could take from him that he had much value in. And honestly, his mentality at this point was f*ck the Chantry. And besides he couldn't have her thinking he was a tight ass. Cause in actuality he wasn't or at least he didn't think so. "You don't have to make it sound like I'm a kill joy....I'll drink with you. I promised remember." He said giving her a humored wink before he picked up his cards. He had a four and a six. "Ladies first." He said motioning to the bar tender to pass them another round. ~~~~ Tom nodded understanding for the most part this mans story. He was not very smart if he was running off from a rich home to go out to the wilderness.... "Well I'm headed to sleep. You are welcome to stay up or go to sleep. It isn't that dangerous. There is nothing someone would want to steal that the guards haven't already taken." He said before going to look at his stuff for his own bed roll. Maraas gave a muffled grumble of something and she shifted like she was turning away from something. She was still out but tossing a bit in her sleep.
