Okay a bit about the thread before it actually starts! It will be focused in the years of 1650 and on, about the time of the Salem Witch Trials. [So if your character really annoys you, you can always burn them at the stake...'nough said] As I was saying... *clears throat* There are some guild lines I have made up for certain parts of the witch power hold as it is, such as how some one possessed would react, how a witch is marked, spelling, familiars, and such...That will be included lower on the page...There will be an over all Plot that will progress weather the characters are prepared or not. However there will be secondary plots for certain characters. [To explain that better, weather your ready for it or not you still have to walk to work- even if its raining...You have no choice.] Each character [depending on what is provided] will add an interesting twist to the main plot so it will never be uneventful as it is. The beginning of this will start when times of change are at hand. There will be infliction of truths that are clouded by darkness, lies, shadows and myth- whispers of power, death, and sacrifices...As they struggle to uncover the dark truths of life, the threats that we all must face as well as what awaits us all-Death-that have and will further be unleashed upon both humans and witches...Character needs:- Male and/or female
- Human and/or witch
- one or more
- A diversity of character start points[ witch, peasant, gentry, human in general, town drunk, hunters, travelers, priests, etc...]
Basic information: - Witches can be male or female
- NO WANDS- more potions, stone casting, dolls, possessions--no harry potter stuff...
- Minor influence demonic familiars allowed
- Witches coven is equal to any High Counsel--they are default meaning they are NCPs with a very strict response code
- All witches have marks to show they are witches such as a scar or a tattoo. Scars are most common
Guild for Spelling: Definition: The actin of a curse of spell with the aid of a potion or doll [imagine voodoo for the lack of a better term]. This can effect speech[ Not being able to speak], movements [Could be paralyzed to acting doll like], restrict activities against the caster. Often undetectable, though ones eyes will often change color When faced with a drastically bright light [Similar to a flash light to the eyes].
Guide to Casting Stones: 5 Stones, Often polished river rocks that are small and come in many colors used for helping to predict an out come to an event- such as cause and effect to a particular event thought it can be unreliable.
Guide to Possession: Definition: Being possessed by the witch in question. Visions[ hallucinations], Wounds [Self inflicted and non], Aggressive behavior, hostility, often needed to be restrained. Things that don't effect this effect are crosses, holy water, or the words of god. [This is different from demonic possession] A familiar may be used as an anchor. [An Anchor is something used inside the body to control (the victim) It can also install the anchor via a wound or an opening.]
Guide to Potions: Pretty simple, using herbs to make things into a potion. Different things can be made from poisons, to sleep aids all the way to paralytics to hallucinatory vapors. If ones has Questions they can be directed to me Via a private message, I will be more then happy to answer any questions you have. ( I have already posted my character profiles for this to help out).

"Hey- Takoda Are you listening to me?" Treian called to him as they walked thought the woods towards their destination. He had met this boy on a battle field however for some reason or another they didn't attack each other, instead they seemed to hit it off pretty well. After a few run ins, he just gave up on his own force and surrendered to the Indians saying they had a better idea in war then his own had. They were leery at first but soon accepted him for his battle knowledge against the settlers- but that hand't happened a while now. It had been a few years now and He knew this other out cast well enough- finding travel comfortable in their company. He was a bit of a precaution for him in a town however with the settlers since they didn't take overly kind to his breed. They were rude to him most days but he did his best to help him pass unaffected since most just saw what they wanted and left. Currently he was helping Koda on an expedition- well a contract. He was hunting witches it seemed, asked to be seen my the villagers themselves, which was a shock in itself. He knew these people, had grown up not too far from here and they always hated the 'heathens' now they welcomed them as soon as there was a problem they couldn't fix. "Seriously, we need to be careful around here- the next few towns are overly religious bastards who don't have much tolerance." He warned him again hoping to get him to understand that since it could be dangerous for even them. --------------------------------------------------------------- Elise had been through a lot that year, though she could say that of every year since she was convicted of being a witch. She traveled with her teacher Briar- another witch who helped her embrace her powers and get them under control better. She was a fickle woman but she had her reasons, as she stated often enough without an explanation. They had been deep into the wilds, across mountains and back- simply exploring to pass time and such it seemed but it had meaning. Making contacts was important as she learned, to keep herself safe should she find the need to hide. They were back to where they ahd began roughly- her home town, well close by anyhow. She was nervous but it was her wish to see her family- even if they didn't see her. It was her birthday gift, though Briar refused to help her int his, saying it was too dangerous but she could go alone if it pleased her so. It was dangerous but she was determined. Briar didn't want to get involved in that mess so she decided to stay in a town not too far, making her help spook the locals however before she left. While she was stuck she sent a letter asking to visit him, even a return address to the tavern where Briar and herself were staying currently, to see if he would even come see her. Was he already married? Was he dead? Did he hate her? Or worse...had he forgotten her? ----------------------------------------------------- Allen sighed, this town was hopeless. There was a lot of drinking, filthy homes, abuse of family members, low attendance in church, even a whore house! What was this place thinking?! It was inviting witches into its folds so easily- almost rolling out a rich carpet for them in welcome. His good friend from the priesthood lived here- it was him home,as he had been invited to stay with him however he didn't know how this man could be a priest in a town such as this. Martin was named after his father, a great priest as well however it seemed their small family was scared by an injustice- their girl had been hung for witch craft. It was a pious family so it made no sense but then again- the Devil did its best to get to the hearts of mortals. He grew up in much the same family setting so he was a little timid about being in the house, but when he arrived he saw an older man sitting in front of a fire place, next to his friend saying prayers. "Greetings." He called with a smile making both the men look up, the younger smiled at him. "Hey, its good to see you didn't get lost. This is Father Martin- most just call him father now, since we have similar names." He said with a smirk since it was true. Allen gave a nod as he greeted both men, wanting nothing more then to be friends with his fellow priests. "I thank you for welcoming me into your home. This is a trying time." he said getting a bit of a clouded look from the older man. "We have seen worse sadly, I hope it never comes to that again...They took my little girl away." He said sadly as he turned his clouded eyes back tot he fire. The poor man had been blinded since he had preformed an exorcism and the girl attacked him- the poor thing. He had gotten a substance in his eye that caused him blindness for may years now, so he was resigned to watching the house and letting his son take care of him. It was late so they soon settled in to sleep, the night a bit chilled but it was alright with the fire place going. Most things in town were quiet all save the bar and whore house- but that was to be expected, not that the priests could do much about these things. Since they had gotten a dock and started trading resources- things had gone down hill...

The serene silence of the autumn forest was disrupted by the tread of travelers, one such heavier than the other. Takoda had no love for Treian's choice in clothes, especially the confining boots his kinsman chose to wrestle their feet into. The whole point of shoes were for warmth and to cushion your steps when hunting, not to snap every twig and crunch every leaf you came by. It was almost funny how nonsensical the settlers were, if they weren't so brutally stubborn and set in their ways. They had particular ways of doing things, odd traditions and routines to their day, albeit better tools, but ones that caused more harm to the land around them. They built large, unnecessary structures for only one person's kin, shoved rocks together for smoother paths for their carts, claimed the land as their personal property to use. He disliked being in such a confined place, one that was so far removed from the elements that it was foreign to Takoda. It made it hard for him not to step on their toes occasionally. One town he went to, he was threatened with being shot at for simply crossing a fenced in area because it was a faster route to the town. And how could he forget the time he was told that he was a sinner and that he would burn to death in a very bad place. Or the pie incident... He tried his best to play by their rules, but it seemed nothing would change the hatred and fear they saw in him. That was till they needed something, like a witch to be handled. They were much too foolish to handle them and went about it all wrong, torturing the poor girls and damning more souls. They even executed the innocent based on hearsay and rumors. But that was what he was for...his purpose in all this. To help...Takoda looked over his shoulder at Treian at his calling and the warning that was almost obvious. The man hadn't gotten used to Takoda not answering him directly, though most didn't. In his village he often wasn't asked much outside his family, only spoken to when there was an order to be filled or something they needed from outsiders. Treian was likable and was much more talkative, even airing on the more reserved side. Takoda liked him well-enough for a settler, since the man was competent in hunting, an experienced fighter and could take care of himself. He had a healthy respect for others, something that was rare to find amongst Treian's people. He also kept Takoda out of trouble with the settlers, or at least kept him from bothering them too badly by going against their odd habits. Takoda turned around, walking backwards some since he trusted where he was going. "You said something similar about the town before this. And the one before that Treian." He said, offering the man a smirk since he was in a better mood being outside and with someone he felt alright talking with. "The followers like you well enough right? They will leave us be if they think your another pale face missionary." He noticed that those that believed in this Great Spirit the white settlers had were often pacified by those that could read the odd little black book of sayings. His people had something similar, but in oral history and memory. Takoda really didn't see why the white settlers cared all that much that his tribe kept in contact with multiple spirits and their ancestors. It made no sense. "Besides, the letter from that town sounded...bad. I don't want them to do anything drastic or upset the windigo." He said, using his people's word for the monstrous spirit that possessed these young girls and made them harm others. It was a nasty spirit that offered power in exchange for their souls. The people were tricked and it took their body to use for its own purposes...He frowned at the thought and turned back around, following the trail through the woods further up. He knew Treian was still very new to this mess, but he liked having another willing to help. It made the travel a bit easier and people were more willing to do business with one of their own... ~~~ A young woman stepped out of a doorframe, her grey green eyes scanning the crowded street for any sign of an unfriendly face. She had been traveling for days, maybe it was weeks...she wasn't sure. But she felt so tired and achey and her head felt light from lack of proper food. She had been out in the wilderness on her own for some time, living off of plants she had learned were edible from time working with her father. And sometimes, if she was lucky, her little friend Korro would bring her a few berries. She hadn't seen her little friend in few days now. She assumed he was out doing things that ravens did in their spare time. She liked to think he had a nest somewhere and cute little chicks to care for. She loved baby birds, well any animals really, especially the fluffy ones. The sound of heavy crates dropping made the girl stagger out of the way a bit, being spooked by a pair of older sailors cursing at her for being in the way. She apologized quietly before scurrying off, trying to find much of anywhere she could rest. She had no money, nothing to give, and certainly nothing to offer in exchange for somewhere to stay. Well, nothing that wouldn't get her stoned or killed. She let a hand drift to her neck, where her long blonde locks covered her shameful little secret. She was a good girl, always had been, but circumstances made her briefly toe that fine line between good and very bad. Her father...he would forgive her her choices for survival. He always told her to live somehow, even in their final moments together...she blocked out her bad thoughts, trading them for her interest in the market beyond. Roe wandered her way to the stalls, running her fingers along the small gold cross around her neck, the only trinket she had from her mother and father left. She loved it dearly, but perhaps for all the wrong reasons. She was once a good Christian, knew the Bible by heart, but her should currently being cast into limbo as a witch made her relationship with the church complicated...That and her lack of funds made her often do things she thoroughly regretted. As she meandered around a nearby stall, she caught sight of something she was looking for. Produce...She felt her stomach lurch at the sight of apples on a nearby cart, left unattended so the owner could grab more of their stock. Roe knew stealing wasn't right...but she was starving. She needed something to tide her over, just till she could figure things out. She went forward a ways, letting her hand skim the cart as if testing to see if anyone would stop her. When no reprimand came, she gingerly took an apple from the pile. Sadly, it was the wrong one to take. The pile gave a shiver around the gap she made and soon apples tumbled everywhere in many directions on the cobble stone. Shouts came from nearby and Roe was left like a deer in the headlights, mouth slightly agape as a burly man came barreling towards her. In a split decision, she took off in a sprint. The crowds milled around her, people shouting and making noises of surprise when she wedged through them, diving into an open alley way between town houses. She hid behind a broken cart, clutching the apple close to her like it was the most precious thing in her life. When the noises of footfall went away from her, Roe breathed out in relief, but gagged when she caught smell of something foul. She winced but chose to ignore the smell for a chance with her food. The first bite of the apple was sweet, so much such she ate a bit too quickly, causing her to nip her lip. She hated pain, enough so that she quickly reached into her small side pouch and pulled out a mix of herbs that were kept in a jar. She touched her lip lightly with a finger full of the paste, shutting her eyes and muttering something incoherent. In moments notice, her eyes turned a pale white and the place on her lip healed good as new. She dropped from her trance, feeling the energy leaving her with little more than an ache in her body. The toll on her body for healing could be immense at times, but for others she liked doing it. Deciding not to ignore her food any longer, she dug back into the apple, eating it whole, core and all.

At the joke Treian gave him a pursed lipped look, before looking at him, knowing he had more to say since he was finally speaking. Nodding after a second he followed the slight direction change behind Takoda. "You know- I don't really like being called a missionary...It associates me with those lunatics." he stated making it sound like he was offended, though it was done jokingly. "And everything around here is bad-I have seven similar letters from this area alone. This place is a witches slum or it just a place of ill repute- god how did my home town sink to this?" He asked more to himself as they moved on towards a town however it was getting a little later into the afternoon. They eventually came tot he main road and crossed the bridge, getting a few odd looks but no one said anything. They headed to the bar first and asked to who address about the letter, finding it was a head men of the village. They got two rooms at the inn, Treian started putting some of his things away- not wanting to carry everything of his to go meet this village elder. -------------------------------- The apple cart loosing its apples was a little unsettling to see however- seeing the girl run off with the apple in hand made him raise a brow. She looked tired and thin, so Allen went to help the merchant instead, paying for the apple the girl took and helped him pick things up. He was thanked and he said a small word of prayer before leaving then merchants to their deeds that morning, on his search to find this girl- asking others if they had seen her even. Eventually he found her, a bit across town but still there- looking miserable and tired. he gave her a light smile as he got closer to her. "Greetings child. I am Father Allen. You look weary, are you aling?" He asked her if she was alright, having a bit heart only made it hard for him to get out of things like this. ----------------------------- Elise gave a sigh as she sat down on her bed there at the inn. She was tired of waiting around just wanting to go see her family- see how Treian was. However Briar made it very clear they needed to get a foot hold there before she left to do her own personal business. She understood that much but it was still a bit annoying to her. Briar was finishing getting dressed before they headed out to find a potential target at the markets there in the town- finding a few quiet looking girls who would work though a black smiths' son was a better target in her opinion. The young man gave her a look that was welcoming almost and she gave him a smile and a small wave, walking on with Briar. "The won't do." She said easily to her before looking at the Baker's stall. "And why not?" She questioned back wanting to see why it wouldn't work. She was told Witches could be male too. "He has a good position in life- he wants for nothing, we want the envious and jealous, that is who we need." As usual Briar was right. With a sigh she nodded, letting her know she would drop her idea on the boy now. ((So you know, Briar and Elise are in town 4, Allen is in town 2, and Takoda and Treian are in town 1...)) so different areas.

Takoda kept his mouth shut about Triean's home, mostly because his village shaman had an answer for that. Bad spirits and bad minds came with poor treatment of the land and each other. The people in these towns were cruel even to each other, less a community and more of a collection of people that helped each other when it only benefited themselves or their Great Spirit. He didn't blame Triean disliking to be associated with the missionaries especially since Takoda held no love for them either. They meant well, but their ignorance was surprising. They acted as though they had all the answers when really they were nothing more than obnoxious followers that hated others that didn't agree with them, even though it was against their own God's teaching. He ignored his annoyance in favor of better thoughts when he saw the town. An inn meant that they would be having food tonight, not just any food but food that the white settlers frequently made. It was one vice that Takoda had, especially since he enjoyed food to begin with, but the foreign tastes were his favorite.
As they put everything away, Takoda took care to remove his more threatening pieces of clothing, such as his knife and bow from his back. He pushed his blonde hair from his face, giving more of a clear view of the network of marks that were drawn into his face by the shaman's spell. It looked strange to other's but those marks were what made him as effective at witch hunting as he was...not that he would ever tell the settlers that. They just accepted it as an odd native tradition. "You know your way around Treian. I will trust you in finding the structure they are talking about in that mess of a letter." He asked since he was still getting used to reading, since he had only just learned when he was a teenager and had to go with his father to trade in their markets.
~~~
Roe's eyes ripped open when a voice came from above her, male from the sound. She hadn't realized she had fallen asleep where she was, but with a full belly and days of walking she was hardly in the best state. She looked up at the man, shrinking back against the cart in anticipation of it being an officer or someone from the market there to harm her for the apple. But when she got a good look at him, it was someone much worse. A priest. She felt her heart fall to her stomach and suddenly she almost felt ill just remembering the treatment she received from the priest in her home town. The same man that baptized her, prayed over her father when he fell ill, and the same man that stood idle while the towns people tried to hang her for witch craft, back when she was only trying to help people... But this priest, this Father Allen could be better than Father Howell. He seemed to be nice and had a nice aura about him. Her father always said to trust those that had a good feel about them. Goodness was hard to hide. She swallowed hard, her mind trying to process how to speak with him. She gave a small bow of her head, a blush would have covered her cheeks at her probably disarrayed appearance if she wasn't already so pale. "Ailing--no no. I'm just passing through Father." She got another look at him and noticed he was awfully young for a man of the cloth. They tended to be older men or had a sterner look about them that weathered them. "I hope I have not troubled you from your tasks. I'm fine really." She got to her feet, dusting off her dress, though she winced when some of her hair fell in her face, only partially blocking out the sight of her dirt smudged dress and boots that were obviously worn down. She felt wet and cold, wanting to be indoors somewhere, but there was no where she could go. No where that wouldn't burn her or turn her out. She cleared her throat and curtsied to him, not meeting his eyes since she felt like she looked a mess and was acting it. She hated feeling this weak, but she couldn't hide it in the state she was in. Truly she wanted to find a barn somewhere and get some decent sleep in some warm hay perhaps...People wouldn't mind her staying there right?
"POSSESSED! BY THE DEVIL HIMSELF!" Shouted a man up on a chair- having drawn it out of another settlement it seemed. Others came around more in a mobbish circle shouting that she was a witch, a whore, something undesirable in all terms. Treian's head tuned into the murmurs of the outside giving a sigh. "Come along old friend- its time to teach these idiots that the poor thing isn't a witch- but a victim." He said in a tired voice since he ahd once seen this happen to his own beloved Elise. They headed outside to find the man holding the poor girl who look bruised and beat up- most looking afflicted- not self. he frowned before stepping forward and knocking the man's hand away, smelling the alcohol on the man. "Are you stupid?! Shes injured- and not possessed. If she were possessed you would know it." He said pushing the man back as the poor thing fell to the ground in sobs, scared sobs. He picked up the girl and the crowd split like the girl had the plague. -------------------------- The girl looked scared again, making him want to help her more. "Please, you can stay with me- I- I mean at the place I am staying. I'm staying with the town's priests- well both of them. I mean you no harm, I simply wish to help those in need. You are in need, and I do wish to help." he said making a little loop in his words as he wasn't the best at getting things across correctly with women since he was used to talking to men. He wanted to help this woman, she looked cold and miserable... The lord brought him there to help this town, to help this woman- she seemed to be in need to a place to stay- soem place to rest her head, for warmth, food, calm- not travel cold travel and damp dirty clothes... ------------------------------------- They went back to the inn and Elise was already settling in for the evening what some one knocked on their door. Briar waved her over to get it, much to her own annoyance. Getting up, she pulled her dress cover back on, not tying it however, not finding a need to at the moment- or the care. heading to the door, she found a man there, his eyes training to her body- seeing her corset there, her figure, and most of her legs from her under bustles that were still half done up. She gave a clearing of her throat looking annoyed as she looked at him. Upon closer inspection of his face however she noticed it was the black smith-kinda gross but he gave her a smile, moving his eyes up to her face. "Umm- hmm- Hello misses...." The man began- however there was little else for him to say when Briar came over and invited him in for a 'chat'....
Takoda looked in the direction of the chaos, his eyes scanning the situation for anything he could use to understand the situation. Seems the colonists were yelling about a witch, decided to take matters into their own hands. The sight of the beaten and barely aware girl made Takoda's anger seep into his look, something that was hard in and of itself to do. He couldn't stand the treatment of these poor lost souls. Tar baths, metal masks, boiling them alive, drowning them, hanging them, rape, violence, all because they were girls tempted and over powered by a dark force. Who was the real monster there? He nodded to Treian as he spoke and followed him over to where the girl was. He let Treian take her since she would probably feel safer near one of her own. He instead turned his rather intense look on the drunk ass that no doubt had begun this incited chaos. "Coward. Harming the defenseless because you can't handle a drink." He muttered before turning his back to the man, ignoring him in favor of the young woman. He gave her injuries a concerned once over before looking to Treian, "Is there a doctor here she can see? They may have broken her nose." He said since they needed her calm and console able before they could look into this...since he wanted to ask the drunk exactly where he got off calling her a witch and then find out exactly who the village elder was that was allowing this kind of treatment. He had very specific rules when it came to taking a case for a town. First, the priests couldn't be involved. Second, the possessed couldn't be harmed. The wendigo spirits thrived on pain of others and their hosts. They were terrible spirits that consumed dark energy and suffering for their own amusement and power. By harming the host, they were only allowing them to suffer under the weight of the negative spirit eating away at them. "As for you, what accusations is she charged with that you couldn't wait for the proper authorities?" He asked the man who had been doing all the shouting, since he honestly wanted to beat the man to a pulp but he was much more controlled than that. It would only frighten the girl further and drive the town into a frenzy. He really hoped this wasn't one of the elders, if it was, He was leaving. ~~~ Roe blinked at his offer, her hand going to the cross around her neck to hide her surprise. She never expected to be welcomed anywhere...let alone by the church...maybe God had forgiven her? She knew that wasn't likely, that this was just the priest doing his duty, but it made her feel slightly better. She liked the idea of a place to stay at least for the night, perhaps a chance to clean her clothes...they still smelled of lake water and the muck she was dragged from by her mysterious savior. Due to the colder weather, the clothes never properly dried due to the frozen dew in the mornings and the mists in the forests. It was hard to stay warm this way, but Roe was resourceful. She got this far..so why not offer the priest a little trust? She gave him a soft smile at his little ramble, giving his words a small hum of thoughts. He said he didn't wish her harm...he just wanted to help. She couldn't guarantee that meant he would feel the same had he known what she was. But she wouldn't be there long enough for him to find out. "That's very kind...I think that would be alright. Thank you." She said before she looked a bit surprised and gave a sheepish giggle. "Oh dear, where are my manners? My name is Roe... It's nice to finally see a friendly face." She told him since she was trying to be friendlier, to at least feel a bit more like her old self.
Triean nodded as he went off towards the doctors- seeing the sign there and the lights still on, knowing Koda could handle himself and would still follow. He of course offered the doctor gold to treat the girl which he took greedily to patch up the girl, with out a word thankfully. When Koda came in the Doctor was in the middle of telling him the girl wasn't a witch- had no markings but she was raped and beaten from the blood and bruise patterns on her. Treian's lips were a thin line as he heard this, working on calming down before speaking a small thanks to the doctor. ----------------------------- The drunk was a little surprised that some out of town group took the dumb girl from him- he stumbled a bit on his chair doing his best not to fell over from his drink however he let the girl be taken knowing she wouldn't be around long since she was now seen as a witch. The little bitch was going to tell on him- he couldn't have that- his wife would be rather unhappy about that, not to mention that was his own daughters' friend. When the Indian spoke up in rather good English he frowned. "Shes a witch! I saw her talking to a bird and playing with stones! Witch craft!" He called loudly getting a repeat of the crowd encouraging it. "The village elder does nothing! We must act-" He started however some one came from behind and kicked the chair from under him with a scowl. The large man was frowning at the now passed out drunk who was in the mud. "Shut ya' trap ya' idiot! Now back to ya' homes all of ya' !" The man shouted to them all, getting a bit of a reluctant but still affirmative action. The large man turned his gaze to Takoda and gave him a nod. "Thanks for stepping in. I'm the constable- I am the second here in this town to the village Elder. I wrote the letter- I thank you for coming when you did." He said before heading to the doctors with Taoda since he figured the girl was there since he could see from the window he was talking to a man he didn't know. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As the girl came around to his polite words he gave her a smile of relief. "I am father Allen. Its nice to meet you Miss Roe. Come along- I'm sure your cold." He said as he took her arm lightly to help guide her to the house. It was a very light hold and one that was easily broken if she didn't wnat the contact it was simply to help her along. Once at the house he got the bath ready for her and told her they had a change of clothes for her- apparently the house once had a girl who was about the woman's size. He explained before hand that she had a change of clothes in the bathing room and could take her time but to come down stairs when she was done for dinner. In the house with men it must have been a little weird but she was safe here. Allen returned down stairs to explain why he picked up this charity case and it was accepted as they began making a thick stew for dinner with some fresh bread from the baker down the way. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Black smith left a little later into the morning, his son relieved to have him back at the forge noticing he was seemingly normal, not a suspicion. Briar smiled as she passed though the market with Elise with a knowing that this man was now her little tool here. Elise had a good eye- just a young eye- she saw potential there in the area but didn't recognize weather it was the older one or the younger. She would learn one day- if she didn't dye first that was, most didn't last as long as she had-though she ahd willingly taken up this mantel to get revenge- she was hell bent for this.
The drunk shouts and loud behavior made Takoda's jaw clench due to his patience running thin. This was another heretic claiming to be doing just work...or this was a man that had a lie to hide. He was much too twitchy and honestly, if he was really afraid of a witch, this was hardly the look of it. Takoda had seen the nasty things these evil spirits were capable of. The true result of their discovery were madness and true terror.... He was about to call the man out on his hog wash lies, but it seems a burly man from the deteriorating crowd stepped in for him. Takoda tensed when the man addressed him, looking him up and down to assess him. When he revealed he was the one who wrote the letter, he eased, his stern expression turning a bit more open. "Greetings, constable." He said before heading to the clinic since he figured the man would want to see the girl. Takoda was worried about her and the injuries she may have suffered. The settlers had strict moral codes and some revolved around the honor of the woman. She could be harmed further if those codes were compromised and he hardly wanted that for her. But she did escape with her life, even if she would be forced to deal with skepticism for the rest of it. They entered as the doctor was talking to Triean, revealing the true nature of what occurred. Takoda could see that Triean was angry and he had a right to be. It was wrong that a girl could suffer and then be charged to suffer more by her aggressor. "Is there anything that will done with that man, the one who harmed her?" Takoda asked the constable since he fully intended to deal with this if no one else would. ~~||~~ Roe let Allen guide her, since it was the proper thing to do since she didn't have a clue where she was going. That and being close to someone who was kind to her made her feel safer, at least from the others in this town that might have figured her out. It was strange for a young woman to be traveling on her own in a town like this. It was obvious she was an outsider, a frazzled outsider that looked to have been through hell and back. That was a step towards people asking questions and her giving answers. She had never had to lie before, she hated the thought, but she knew none could know about her. She had seen what they do to witches alone and first hand. Even if she didn't feel herself to be one of the misunderstood ones...she was still lumped in with all the bad a witch could do. She followed Allen into an old house, one that looked to be humble and just what she anticipated a priests abode to be. It was plain, put together well, but she could see signs of wear from the elements. She muttered a small prayer under her breath, wanting this place to really be as safe as it looked...She was quiet as a church mouse as he lead her to the wash room, a small room with clothes for her and a tub. She gave him a soft smile and a nod before letting him leave her to herself. She quickly went to the hearth drawing the water and getting the bath nice and hot. When she finally had the bath ready she stripped down, taking off her crumbling clothes that were clinging to her by merely threads. She could see the lines where the dirt met her shielded skin and the places in which the sun burned her from long exposure. She felt her stomach knot as she lifted a hand up to the back of her neck where the mark sat. Where it once was raw and painful, it was now just a raised mark of skin, a scar to show she was no longer just Roe...she didn't regret that trade. Not even if it branded her a monster in the eyes of those she cared about. This power she gained she was using it to help others. That had to be worth something...something to atone for keeping the life she didn't deserve. She climbed into the hot water and took a long bath, letting the water wash away the grime and the soap to make her hair go from stringy and matted to long and flowing sheets of wheat blonde. She reveled in the clean smell, her expression brightening to a happy glow. "See? After all of this I have a place to stay and a warm bath. Won't Korro be happy..." She giggled, wondering when her little bird friend would be back to visit. He had been gone for a day or two now and she was a bit worried he was lost... She got out of the bath when the water began to get cold and grabbed the clothes he left for her. The clothes were almost a perfect fit, making her figure they must have belonged to someone her age. Though the waist and bust were a bit loose, hinting that this woman had a nicer shape. Deciding she should look presentable for the priests, she braided some of hear hair away from her face she grabbed her now somewhat washed and cleaned old clothing, setting it to dry over the side of the empty bath. She walked down the stair, following the smell of food till she found the kitchen. She peeked in the doorway, finding there was more than one man present and one was Allen. She could only tell by the fact he was younger in comparison to the other men. Roe was intrigued by the prospect of new people and so didn't really waste time greeting them. "Hello...I wanted to ask if there was anything I could help with." She asked, feeling she was a poor guest for not helping. She was used to cooking after growing up caring for her father and the sick of the town. Besides, she owed these men a debt of gratitude for letting her be there and not on the street. It could be dangerous out there after dark...
Treian looked over his shoulder to Koda and the other man who had come in with a grim look. "I should surly hope so, and who might you be my good sir?" he asked making it obvious eh ahd to be some one of standing if he was walking about with Takoda since he wasn't a very sociable man. The man nodded to the doctor and the new man standing there. "Yes, I am Constable Raymond, I am the one who wrote ya the letter." he explained to them both getting a dismissed nod from the doctor who went to go help get some more of the blood off the poor girl who had passed out. Treian gave him a nod in greeting. "I am aware that this is a false accusation- your letter said things were at a brink?" he explained both cases however Raymond shook his head. "This is only one of many accusations on young women here...Most are lies-the ones who had marks were scares from their past- none were witches. Though there is little to be done once one incites a mob to burn an innocent to death for lies to cover things... I have arrested many but there is only so much with out the poor girl to testify..." He said sounding genuinely sad how things had gotten. "I called you gentlemen here to check the girls of this village-to make it obvious once and for all that none are witches!" he said a bit loudly but it was his excitement to get this over with. He was tire of the ashes of young girls who were burned falsely for a crime they had not committed. ------------------------------ Allen turned when he heard the smaller voice that was feminine behind them and gave her a light welcoming smile. "No, everything is about ready come in have a seat my dear girl. I can see your feeling much better with some warmth in your bones." He said with a smile before the slightly older man turned around and gave the woman a smile. "Hello miss, I am father Martin. My father is simply addressed as Father now so don't feel the need. Please come and eat." He said as he placed a bowl on the table for Roe and another for his father that was quietly sitting there by the fire patiently waiting for his son to help him find his food.
Takoda stood back and let Treian handle the talk since he had a better grasp of how to speak to these people. He preferred to listen anyways. You learned more that way. The more that he was learning was just what he expected of these people. Panic, fear, violence...all to feel secure in themselves and their needs. To sacrifice others in the need for control...He looked back towards the room where the girl was resting, letting the constable have his moment of explanation of why he was doing this all in the first place. So he wanted them to stop the witch hunt? Impossible, but they could try to save a few. "Nothing is obvious until we look." He said bluntly since that was the truth in things. There might have been witches there, some hiding or exciting chaos. These spirits were crafty and made their hosts miserable...it was why they were always the hardest to truly deal with. "Are there any in specific names that come to mind? Those that are immediate danger to rumor that we can see first. I also ask that someone of trust in your community be present. If you wish to stop the harm, people need to feel sure that the threat isn't present." He said, since he had seen it before that the people saw him as a charlatan or an outsider out to harm them. Who would trust a 'heathen'? ~~~~~ Roe was a bit surprised that they had nothing for her to help with, mostly because she was used to always being busy with a chore or something. To just sit and wait was not something she really ever did. But things had changed and she was in a whole new environment. This group of men had opened their home to her and she had to follow their rules. She was alright with that since they seemed friendly and kind. "Ah yes, I definitely feel refreshed. Thank you, all of you, for allowing me to join you for the evening. The clothes are also appreciated till I can get mine back in order." She said to answer Allen's comment before she gave a small bit of a curtsy to Father Martin. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance sir. My name is Roe." She said though as she sat she noticed the eyes of the man at the table. They were clouded and streaked, not from age but a toxin. She had seen this before, on a young woman that had been punished by her husband for visiting other men. Roe could never restore her eye sight but the pain did slip away with a few well placed dissolvable powders in her drinks... She pushed the thought away, deciding it was best not to fiddle with the old man when she wasn't sure what she was getting into. Besides, her town thought her simple tonic making was a sign of witchcraft...silly as it was at the time to her and her father, now she couldn't really deny it. She was reminded of her father honestly by looking at the graying priest. He had that calm look about him, one that was worn by time and hardship. Though they only shared the similarity of their age, Roe couldn't help the feeling of homesickness creeping up into her being. How she missed her father...She quickly looked down, steadying her emotions with a few deep breaths before she looked back up at the other men. "So you all share this home? It's quite lovely. You all must be good friends by now though." She said since it was a home for a family obviously by the way it was built and shaped. It could accommodate these men, but with Roe being there she felt it could be hard to not see much of each other during the day. She wouldn't mind the constant interaction since she was starved of it during times of the year like winter when she was stuck to her home, tending farm livestock and watching over her father. It must have been fun to live in a town with so many people around you...
Treian nodded to Takoda , before looking back at the man. He thought a moment before shaking his head. "None that I know of. That poor girl was just a victim of her drunk uncle. There have been no rumors here- just falsities- a passing priest (not allen) caused a panic and everything is 'witch' this and 'witch' that. I want everyone checked. Every woman in the village." He said in a stern tone to make it obvious he wanted this done and over with. "If they run or resist they are guilty of something-its simple. Trial by fear and then we confirm by evidence." He commented looking between the Indian and the boy who spoke easily with him. Treian nodded again," Let me talk it over with my partner here. We will come see you in the morning when we have decided the best course of action." He said to the man, getting a curt nod before he left. Treian gave a heavy sigh," Well this one is much more straightforward then many...Thoughts?" He asked since the doctor was off tending to the girl still leaving them to speak. ~~~~~ Allen gave her a bright smile at her comment. "Father martin is a friend of mine- he has opened his home up to me as well for my stay here." He said as he took his seat by Roe and ate his food after a small prayer. The yonger man nodded to her before settling in with his own bowl and bread giving her a soft smile- a old smile- one that was more memory then not. "My sister used to love that dress. It does it good to see it still has some use." He commented before his father put his drinking cup down a bit hard,coughing on his water- making him turn to tend to his father, who wasn't expecting him to say a word on his child- his precious daughter who had been falsely accused. ------------------------------------- Briar smiled as she let the man leave the room, she had gotten the information she wanted from him- he was very useful- especially when spelled to do as she wished. His own son was now a target- or was going to be used as such- poor Elise was about to learn when not to get attached to ones targets. She had seen her talking to the boy often enough in the market- knew what she was going to do- what she was thinking- it was wrong- humans' were targets nothing more. Having been here only a few days- no one suspected a thing- it was perfect for them to plant seeds and leave before it enacted- it was a fun little plan and she was truly enjoying this. ---------- Elise was in the markets, looking at a dress at a vendor- the pattern was pretty but it wasn't her style honestly- too covering really- a little peek- a little sex appeal was something she enjoyed now a days- it made her victims more willing to say...Glancing over her shoulder she noticed the black smith leaving the inn- from his meeting with Briar- heading back over to his lace of work-though as her eyes went to the man she noticed his boy's eyes on her- intensely- it made her feel- well naked. She stared back in a manner that was uninviting only getting a wave from the black smith- his son's eyes on her intently still. Deciding it was a slight case of obsession she made a comment to the shop keeper about how the boy was rude in staring at her. The woman made a few comments about youth before she moved on, making a few more comments to a few others- it was all so they would take note of it- not the cause of it. Briar had told her not to get involved so she didn't- but it seemed by avoiding the boy- he was attracted to her regardless. To her she was already married- at least mentally to Treian- she loved that man- well the boy she knew at least- she didnt know if he yet lived but she wanted to know. It hurt her heart to know she was close but couldn't go until she was allowed but knew it was better to test herself with this.
Takoda was glad to hear at least that the targets were not pronounced. Usually they were the people on the fringe of society, those that didn't make sense to others and so were blamed for their difference. Though, those accusations were not always false. The spirits preyed on the weak first and worked their way up with more power to the more influential. He looked to Treian when he approached, since he had been in his own mind at the moment in thinking of where to start. "Straight forward is one way of saying it. Try telling a woman to undress so you can check for a scar..." He said since he knew Treian must have seen that this was by no means simple. People were superstitious as it was here and starting a search for a witch could cause panic. Of course a young woman would be frightened of them, let alone run at first sight of them if a freckle or scar from childhood got other girls killed. "We start early tomorrow, after the church services are out. I think the market. It's crowded, everyone will be there and more chance to see those behaving oddly or ones that trigger unusual responses from others. I believe I will start with those without incredibly public positions, the spirits don't like scrutiny. Whatever to prevent that from happening to another girl..." He said before looking Treian in the eyes. "And you? You must have some idea since you know this area better than I." He said since he honestly trusted Treian's opinion on these matters, even if the man was a bit new to all this. ~~~ Roe was happy to hear that these men got along and that Allen in fact would be staying there as well. While she liked people, she felt more comfortable with a familiar face about her, even if it was for just a night. She grabbed the spoon nearest her and took a bite from the stew, trying to remember her manners despite the fact she wanted to shove her face in the bowl and eat it all as quickly as possible. She was starving and it was taking all she had not to eat like a pig. But her father taught her well, at least some etiquette from what her mother grew up in. It wasn't much but she liked the idea of keeping in people's good graces. When Father Martin spoke of the dress, Roe looked up at him with doe eyes, her hand clenching the fabric of the skirt beneath the table. So this was his sister's? Roe could feel an unease from the old man, call it her woman's intuition but she felt this topic was sensitive. She offered the men a smile, her eyes on the old man who was struggling. "Oh you have a sister? It really is lovely and in amazing shape. I am very grateful you allowed me to borrow it. I must thank her as well if I get the chance to meet her." She said before taking a healthy bite of the bread. She mulled over that a moment before she swallowed and gave bit of a satisfied noise. "I never had any siblings, but I would have very much liked to. A big family seems fun." She said as she tasted more of the stew that was filling her with a warmth that rivaled the bath. She looked to Allen then and gave a small curious look. "Do you have any siblings?" She asked since he seemed to get along well with people, indicative of a big family.
Treian nodded at the plan Takoda had thought up, it was sound- more so then the man's had been. "That sounds fine. Less likley to incite a riot then what the constable had brought up. I will begin before church lets out. There is a whore house here-I want to know who frequents it. So we know the drunk lecherous types already so we know its casual behavior for them." He said making a point since the poor girl's father was probably a type, so that could be figured out and it would help. ~~~ "Then thank her in your prays tonight child. My daughter is dead." The old man said in a harsh yet depressed way putting his spoon down, obviously done eating for the evening, getting a sigh from his son. The room was awkward a few movements before her other words seemed to come into contact with Allen's mind. "I am an only child as well, my father simply taught me to speak well." He said to gloss over the conversation before John took his father out of the room to rest it seemed. "Don't feel bad about speaking honestly here- that is just a touchy subject that is all Miss Roe. More stew your bowl is practically empty." He said win a slightly humored tone since it seemed the girl was starving.
Takoda nodded, figuring Treian was right. He didn't personally like the brothels, due to the rather despicable way the women were treated. He didn't care that they were freer with their bodies, just that they had to be so to survive. It was an industry that kept them fed and safe...it was just sad to know that some endured the wrath of people around them for their choices. "Alright. Don't get into trouble. Witches find easy targets among the drunk and distracted...some of the possessed can be strong as hell." He said, just remembering getting knocked on his ass once from a man socking him in the jaw that was under witches spell. Poor man was just a farmer and the witch was posing as a weary traveler in need of help. Thankfully after his farm animals started acting strangely and his son fell ill, the mother reached out for help rather than handling it herself. ~~~ Roe winced when the old man retorted that the poor girl was dead. She hadn't known...she just figured she had moved in with a husband or a relative since it wasn't proper for a single woman her age to be unmarried. Roe faced the same odd looks, even though most forgave her single status due to her father's illness and the care she was tasked with giving him...She looked down at her lap as the silence fell, feeling slightly mad with herself for not thinking that through. She could be such a fool at times...She sent up a small prayer in her mind for the young woman to thank her for her family's kindness, grabbing the cross around her neck to remind her that God must still hear her despite her new nature...She looked up at Allen when he spoke, her hand falling away from her necklace as he spoke. "That's good. Most people go their whole lives without learning to truly communicate with others. It's a god skill for a priest to have when you work so closely with the people." She said before her attention went to the younger Father Martin. She gave him an apologetic nod, her look sheepish as she noticed she had finished her food before the others. "My apologies still." She said softly, mostly because she knew grief after losing her father to her selfishness and the life she once had...that poor girl lost her life...She couldn't imagine death, not even after being so close to it... At news of more stew, she blushed though her stomach told her that more food would be lovely, she didn't feel it right to ask for more. "I couldn't possibly. It was very good, but I think I am full for the night." She said, trying to sound a bit more put together than she possibly looked. "Um, though might I ask something a bit odd...What town is this?" She asked, her expression very obviously confused since she had never left her town before. She had never been allowed to or needed to...She had no idea where her wandering had landed her from her small town of James.
