The words out of the human girl’s mouth were not quite what Iliana had expected. She didn’t cry or weep or ask more questions, all of which she would have thought to be normal. The fact that she just wanted to go back to the room…well Iliana got the feeling that Sophine was being brave and she wasn’t sure if that was really the best course of action. The girl wasn’t able to hide her body’s reaction but she stopped it quickly. She was unsure of whether or not to allow the girl to go back but as a brief, hesitating silence lingered on for a mere moment, Iliana decided. “As you wish.” Iliana said and then stood, offering her hand to Sophine to help her up. She handed Sophine a small cloth that was damp with a minty smelling substance. “I will walk you to your room. Place that over the bite on your neck while we go.” ~~~ Iliana knocked on the door after retrieving and pocketing the cloth. She opened the door and found the room full of sleeping individuals, except for Rowan who was standing in the corner, seemingly staring at a random spot on the wall. He looked over and though his expression was blank, Iliana could see the way in which he tensed his body. He had yet to change the ways in which he showed concern. She motioned for the girl to head inside and Rowan walked over to her. “Are you alright?” He questioned but glanced to Iliana, her lips drawn thin. After Sophine squirmed her way out of Rowan’s prying eyes, the fire elf moved on to Iliana who led him outside of the room, shutting the door. His eyes asked questions of her but she didn’t speak. Finally, Rowan couldn’t take it anymore and so he broke the silence. “What happened? Why has she been gone so long?” He asked. “It is not my place to say, however, the human girl is fine. Do not ask me to tell you what is her business…” Iliana trailed off, her eyes closing in a drawn out blink. It was obvious that she had other things on her mind. After a moment, she opened them decidedly and spoke once more. “I worry about the decision for tomorrow, brother.” Her speech had slipped into the old tongue and Rowan’s expression softened ever so slightly. “Me too.” He replied. “I just don’t want to lose you again…”

Sophine did as Iliana bade, taking the cloth and pressing it to the wound on her neck as they walked. Her eyes shut a moment as she let whatever it was burn through her system. It felt like rubbing alcohol, burning with a sort of antiseptic sting that told her it was cleaning the wound. She was thankful with how kind Iliana was being, but she had a feeling it was only for the sake of that creature...They were too close. Sophine had seen it even in her hormonally frustrated haze. This was all to shut her up no doubt...She walked with her in a sort of all too calm daze. She was in a strange place at the moment, but obviously not okay. Her movements were too rigid, too contained and introverted even for her. She felt weak, all too tired and like she might collapse if made walk longer. That was why she went ahead without prompting into the room that was theirs. To her displeasure, Rowan was awake and tried to speak to her. She by passed him without a look, figuring that his sister could talk to him since she understood it more...More than Sophine felt she ever needed to. She went into the bathroom however and pulled the door closed. Her attention went to water that was in a basin which she used to wash her face. However she caught sight of her appearance in the reflection of the bowl and her face--or who she assumed was her. She was pale and shaky, looking like a kicked dog rather than a strong girl. She wasn't strong...she was afraid...afraid of the blood sucking monster that could control her so easily. She reached up and shakily touched her neck, but frowned when she found no bump not even a scar. She felt harder but still nothing... It was gone. Like it never happened....An intake of breath was all she could manage before she crumpled, curling into a ball and sobbing. She stayed like that for a little while, sobbing into her knees as her mind tried ease her down from her freaking out. It happened. She was attacked and had Iliana not stepped in, there would have been nothing she could do about it. She couldn't protect herself. Why was she even there? There was nothing she could do to help...it was her fault--all her fault. It was a good while before she could straighten up and get out of the bathroom. She was relieved to see Rowan was gone, mostly because she looked all puffy eyed and like hell. She felt nauseated and shaky, like she couldn't even breathe. She just needed to sleep, to rest and forget...She saw her sister and Susanna and instantly felt...safer. She crawled onto the cushions between them, her face nestling into Monica's back so that she could close her eyes and sleep. It took a while to fall asleep, but she was greeted with dreams of a beautiful garden in the middle of the city and a handsome man with blue eyes giving her a lovely flower....

Rowan spent a good half an hour speaking with his sister. They took a walk along the halls and caught up. It, for a while at least, almost began to feel like it had before he had been captured. It was a nice feeling and Rowan vowed that he would fight to have moments like that again. He missed them and he missed her. She was all he had left really, at least in terms of blood relatives. She walked him back to his quarters before leaving for the night and he was left with a room of sleeping misfits and those that didn’t belong. The next morning they all were awoke to the sound of someone beating on the door to their room. Rowan was the first to really wake as he hadn’t slept much and when he had finally fallen asleep the last time, it had been quite light. He saw Layfon rise slowly, blinking slowly with quite ruffled hair. He had been clutching a pillow tightly against his chest and had drooled on it at some point in the night. He looked confused at first but a yawn pulled through him and quite quickly, his bleary eyed expression shifted to alert. The nymph and fire elf shared a look before both rising and walking to the door, Rowan opening it. Baelavain stood there, ducking some to look into the room. He was alone and his expression was as blandly neutral as ever. He didn’t enter, instead, speaking to the room. “Please gather anything you have and follow me. I will be taking you for breakfast, after which the decision in regarding you joining us will be presented.” He looked as though none of this really mattered, but respectfully closed the door and waited outside. Rowan and Layfon turned to the girls. Layfon sported a nervous little grin while Rowan just looked somber. “Well, I suppose we should do as the elf says.” Rowan said and then the boys picked up their things. When everyone was ready, they exited their short room. The hallways were much roomier and both Rowan and Layfon felt better upon entering the taller area. Baelavain moved from his guard-like position outside of their door and they followed him through the tunneling expanse of the underground city. They were led into the same room they had eaten in the night before, the ceilings tall and the walls wide. The table was empty but for plates of fruits, smoked meats, and breads piled upon them. There were all sorts of foods imaginable. Sweet pancakes, sour fruit tarts, honey drizzled wafers, and smoked sausage. Pitchers of ale and water were spread across the table, plates seated for just their small group of five. Each took their seat and Baelavain left them, though they knew not how far out of the room he had gone. For all Rowan knew he could have been standing right outside the door. Layfon didn’t mind one bit though, instantly sitting and piling his plate full of food. He was starving and couldn’t wait to fill his belly. He was worried, that much was obvious, but that wasn’t going to stop him from enjoying a free meal.
((Well I lied. It'll be the next one that's massive. Figured you guys might have a few things to reconcile with our charries.))

She had been having a rather good dream, she felt warm however when in her dream some one started beating her head against the wall she woke up. Covering her ears looking a bit disorientated, she yawned, feeling tired from not sleeping overly well. Opening her eyes more ahs squinted to see Rowan there by the door, having heard the weird elf earlier. She listened to both men and decided to do as she was told, not really feeling awake yet- she was dying for a cup of coffee. She shuffled after Rowan but kept her hands to herself since she wasn't too sure what was going on really. They walked on through the halls, it was odd still being there. They went back into the main area where they had eaten the night before and smelled the food. She took her seat and pickled a plain looking bread and nibbled on it as she sat by Rowan. She was going to wait for someone to tell her what was going on because she simply wasn't the best in the morning.

Monica woke with a sound at the foo, her attention going to the room around her. Thankfully Rowan got the door and Layfon was actually awake. She felt relief wash over her, especially since she now knew he was for sure okay after passing out. She went to sit up and ask a question but, she was kept on the pillow by a snug hold on her middle. She frowned before her eyes rested on her sister. Sophine was clinging to her, looking like she was scared something might drag her away. Monica gave her a confused look, mostly because Sophine never was clingy, even when they were kids. And was it her or did her shirt feel a bit stiff from being wet. Had Soph been crying? She shook her sister's shoulder which stirred her awake rather quickly. Sophine looked wide eyed and startled, like she didn't know where she was till she laid eyes on Monica. "Hey Soph you're strangling me." She grumbled and Sophine pulled away with an apologetic look. She wasn't speaking, not even doing her incessant sorry babble. Monica wasn't sure she liked how quiet her sister was being. Besides, what time did she get back from that talk with the creep? Did something happen? Before she could ask they were ushered to breakfast. They all gathered around a good looking spread of sweet breads and fruits which Monica took full advantage of. Sophine on the other hand still looked a bit off as she forked a bit of pancake and popped it into her mouth gingerly. She wasn't feeling too well and felt exhausted from her fitful sleep. It was a wonder she didn't fall asleep in her food just now. "So what did that guy want?" Monica asked to break the silence over the room. Taking her time to take a bite of fruit, she looked around the room as if expecting to see someone spying on them like they were hardened criminals. She wasn't sure why they would be nice if they just planned to decide their fate today...

Rowan was nibbling on a piece of fruit, glancing at Susanna with concerned thoughts. She seemed to be a bit out of sorts and he wondered if that was just because of the morning. She had yet to say a word and wasn’t really eating much it seemed. His attention, however, was drawn away from the pretty blonde and towards the now red-haired Monica whose question was rather not something he thought a good idea to bring up. Sophine had looked quite shaken last night and since his sister hadn’t told him what had happened, he could only assume it wasn’t something the poor thing wanted to talk about at that moment. “What guy?” Layfon questioned after swallowing a rather large chunk of bread. His expression was curious and he looked at Monica. Rowan shot his brother a subtle look that could kill and the nymph’s eyes just widened some in confusion before he just shrugged and went back to eating as he mumbled something about there being a lack of fish offered on the table. “He was just trying to get more of our story out of Sophine. It seems he didn’t get the answers he was expecting though, so I suppose we shall see what will come our way soon enough.” Rowan said. He wanted to try and steer away the spot light from Sophine. He was worried that it would cause more tension and they couldn’t afford to have her anymore off balance than she might have already been. He didn’t have a good feeling about the news they were going to receive and thus he had deemed it important to try and keep the morale of the group up as high as he possibly could. “Isn’t that right, Sophine?” Rowan added with a polite smile. Layfon glanced at them curiously but continued eating. He was rather hungry and in a chipper mood, however, the more he was awake, the more his memory from the night before was coming back to him. The female Abu Abu popped into his mind and he froze with one hand midway to his mouth with a piece of smoked meat. An unsettled feeling had formed in his belly and a hot rage worked its way around his mind. He forced it away and continued eating but his bright mood had been tainted with uncertainty and a tinge of fear. His expression was less boyish than before, the wrinkles on his brow betraying his more nervous state, if one were to look closely. They all ate more after that. Rowan wasn’t sure if his words had quelled Monica’s curiosity, but he hoped that she had common enough sense to leave well enough alone. Now was not the time for sharing stories or “crying it out”. Layfon was keeping to himself mostly. He was a bit surprised that no one had asked him about last night but there hadn’t been much of a chance. He leaned over to Monica and brushed a bit of her hair away from her ear. It was still a bit for him to get used to, seeing her hair the color that it was. “I didn’t cause any trouble last night did I?” He whispered, questioningly in her ear. Layfon wasn’t quite sure how and when he had ended up back in their room last night but he wasn’t going to ask too much. It wasn’t worth finding out all of the details. He was lucky for Abu Abu to not have drained him of his insanity and while many would say he should be thankful, there was no way he could think that way. He had been lucky and that was all, though the news she had given him…it was troubling to say the least. Layfon didn’t get to hear Monica’s response because there was a knock at the door and the sharp featured High Elf Baelavain entered. His expression was neutral as ever and his grey colored attire crisp looking, especially for someone who lived underground. It was surely his aura that made even dingy clothes look none too shabby. “I hope you have had your fill for the council is ready to convene and discuss your fate.” The pale golden haired elf said. He waited by the door and both Rowan and Layfon stood, the nymph stuffing a few pieces of bread in one pocket while a piece of smoked meat hung from his mouth. One look from Rowan had Layfon pulling the meat from his mouth and giving his elven brother a sheepish grin. Layfon helped Monica out of her spot and also offered his hand to Sophine for her to take if she wished. Rowan didn’t provide such luxuries for Susanna but shared a look with her that she should have known meant that he cared for her but he needed to keep his thoughts on remaining true to his elven nature. He had relaxed much more in the human realm but now that he was home, he was beginning to remember why his kind had always been aloof in nature. It was safer that way, more complex, yes, but safer. They were lead out of the room and down a hall where they had not previously been allowed, the lighting casting purple shadows on everything it touched. Silence swept over them, the only sound being that of light steps on the compact stone floor, worn smooth by years of use. A door way was up ahead and Baelavain stopped, opening the door and ushering them inside with a mere look. Inside was plush and full of carpets and the light of candles and iridescent rocks. There was a raised bench with Rulinju and the others from the night before sitting and talking amongst themselves. They showed no curtesy by halting their conversations and instead Baelavain moved forward and knelt to one knee. “Pardon me for interrupting, but I present our guests to you, Lord Rulinju.” He said in a rather humble manner. It made Rowan’s brows slightly knit together for it wasn’t common to see a high elf lower himself before another. Rowan’s attention was diverted by the rather stern looks of those who were now looking down on them, his sister seated to the far side and not meeting his gaze. A sinking feeling formed in his stomach. There was silence in the room for a moment. Rulinju gave a fleeting look at Sophine before his eyes landed on the two men before him. “We have come to a decision amongst ourselves regarding whether or not we will allow you to remain with us.” He said in a very regal tone. Layfon found this all very tedious. He was quite accustomed with the formality of such speeches but found them rather boring and unnecessary. They had already made their decision so why they didn’t just spit it out, he never knew. Rowan just nodded his head; his expression neutral in all appearances, even his fiery eyes had a cool look to them. “I spoke with everyone you see here and while some voted for your continued presence, others brought up the question of the safety and security of our community. It is a valid concern that you may very well pose a threat to everything we stand for.” He paused, licking his lips and clasping his hands on the table in front of him. “After much debate, we came to the conclusion that it would not be in our best interest for you to remain here.” There was a heavy silence that permeated the room. Though Rowan’s expression was still neutral, the aura that came from him was a dangerous one. His body had tensed as though exprecting an attack. If they were not to remain here then what was to happen to them? Were they to be prisoners? Were they to be put to death? Nothing good could come of this. Layfon’s expression held and anger that could freeze. He was also fearful of what was to happen to them and reached for Monica’s hand to give it a reassuring squeeze. “However” Rulinju continued with what looked like an almost amused tilt to his lips (that just further infuriated Layfon). “taking into considerations your position and your story, we have also decided not to hold you here. We will let you leave, unharmed and even with a small supply of food under two minor conditions.” Layfon’s brow rose in unsure curiosity while Rowan’s jaw set tightly. Neither of them spoke. “We sympathize with your story and I have personally decided that as long as you agree to our terms, you will be free to go.” There was silence now, the room heavy with tension as it became obvious that Rulinju was waiting for an answer for one of the boys. Eventually and with an aura of heavy trepidation, Rowan spoke. “What are your terms?” Rulinju’s smile made it clear that those were the words he was hoping to hear. “All of you shall swear a Binding Oath. You shall never be able to speak of the location of this place to anyone.” Rulinju blinked, eyes trailing over every single member of their small party, as though he was trying to read their souls. “And the other?” Layfon questioned, his features held tight in defiance. Rulinju looked upon the water nymph graciously and sighed softly. “Our dear Baelavain will accompany on your journey. He will be able to help protect you from our enemy’s forces and help reacclimatize you to your surroundings as you have—missed so much.” His words seemed to slip from his tongue as though a snake spoke them. Layfon opened his mouth to protest but Rowan held up his hand, silencing him though the nymph shot him a rather dirty look. “Very well.” Was all Rowan said. Layfon looked aghast but he realized Rowan’s thought process. They weren’t really being given an option. “Wonderful. Abu Abu will perform the Binding Oath and then you will be escorted to gather your possessions. You will be away from this underground den within the hour.” His words were final and he stood, making his way down from the heightened stand. He walked past them on the way out, back erect and blue eyes quite cold. He looked like a king.

Suzanna heard the talking but didn't really pay any attention to it since it wasn't addressed towards her really. She nibbled at the bread before she took a piece of fruit. About half was threw it- the creeper came back into the room, the other elf she had dubbed creepy since he was just.. well his presence in a room was just weird feeling to her. When spoken to about getting up and being ready for the meeting she put the fruit down and stood up. She shared a look with Rowan, in it she knew he was worried about something and was thinking about things, so she knew he was going to be more to himself, as she had expected. She knew since this was his home land that he knew what was best and when contact was best. They followed along the halls and into the room, she instantly felt like she was on a stage and being looked at by the creatures there before them. Listening to the speech she tensed to hear it, still a little muddled by the odd lights but she as awake enough to understand this might not be in a good position to be in. As the talking proceeded she felt the Aura around Rowan and Layfon change, making her put her arm around herself a bit in her own controlling way. Her jaw about hit the floor when they said they ahd to swear an oath and then bring the creep along. That was weird and she didn't think she could feel comfortable sleeping with him around since she didn't know him. However she controlled herself when Rowan said they accepted the deal, she figure living was better then dying after all. It seemed like a kinda hopeless situation. One she really had no say in, she just had to trust Rowan and Layfon.

Sophine tensed at the questions from her sister and Layfon and eased back into her seat, ceasing her mindless food pushing to make it look like she was really eating. She just couldn't seem to stomach things at this point, mostly because she knew very well now that Rulinju was very right. They were not safe in this world and especially not here with this group. No where would be safe for a pack of humans with these mythical beings. Why did she think she could do anything? If it wasn't for this stupid bracelet maybe she could have stayed home and forgotten all of this. Monica could have found someone new and safer. She would get over Briony right? And Susanna was tough enough to survive here or away from Rowan...sEverything would be better and she would have never put herself in that situation with Rulinju and risked their safety here. No doubt her rejection of him and getting caught by Rowan's sister meant that he would no doubt send them away. He didn't believe her or any of them. Who would believe some half baked story about people traveling over dimensions to a new world that was torn apart by war? Then again, who would believe that they traveled to a world of mythical creatures back home anyways? But home was another dimension away and almost impossible to get back to when she didn't even fully understand how they got here in the first place. So she had to be strong here...but for her strength she just didn't think she could talk about Rulinju now. She was embarrassed to say the least, ashamed of how she acted and scared of what he could do to her if she said anything. She wanted to forget honestly, but that seemed impossible after changing that morning revealed another bite on her side that hadn't healed like the one on her neck... Thankfully Rowan stepped in and spoke for her, in a show of gentlemanly conduct that made Sophine look in his direction with soft, doe like eyes. She was glad he could read the situation, even if his sister had told him what happened. She would use his understanding later for her advantage and her friends. They needed to learn to better defend themselves and she had a feeling Rowan could show them how. When he asked her if his story was right, she nodded since it was the truth that they had all been told, even her before she was lead into a compromising position by Rulinju's weird emotional and mind control over people. "Yes, that's right." Sophine's quiet answer pacified Monica's questioning but made her leery of accepting the answer. Something happened that she wasn't being told and that infuriated her since it obviously affected her sister. But for the sake of peace she kept her mouth shut and let the topic drop. She instead went back to her food, thinking of how many ways she could kick this Rulinju's ass for messing with her sister, if she wasn't afraid of the consequences. She was distracted from a nice thought of breaking his face when Layfon suddenly asked a question in her ear. It was as if her mind snapped to attention at his voice of its own accord, making her want to answer. He looked so serious lately, she wondered just what was bothering him so much. Sure his world was different and things were difficult, but he always seemed so cheery. There must have been something that was really messing with his head...She smiled at him before shaking her head, opening her mouth to answer. "No you--" Before she could even answer really, Baelavain came into the room and took them to see this council. At the offer of a hand up, Monica took it, but Sophine actually seemed to move away from Layfon as she stood up. Sophine covered up the movement with a small smile and shake of her head, but Monica watched her sister's rigid movement and frowned a bit, not understanding what Sophine had against Layfon. Sophine walked like a man heading to a noose, her body feeling like a live wire of pent up energy and anxiety. She wanted to run in the opposite direction of their fate, but knew it was inevitable...As she assumed, seeing Rulinju again made her want to hide behind Rowan, but she stood properly, hands folded and her head raised in confidence. Though on the inside she was a wreck, she wouldn't let the other's see her as weak...Besides, she needed strength for their verdict. It seems they wouldn't be allowed to stay, a relief in some cases and a curse in others, but the idea of being turned free on two conditions made her uneasy and suspicious. Why would they need Baelavain with them and why would they let them leave after all they now knew? It didn't make sense to her, not from the view of Rulinju's point of view. But really, did anyone really know exactly what went on in his mind? She winced as he left, her eyes going to her group with unease and serious resolve. She was ready to be rid of this place, but afraid of what they would encounter out on their own...

One by one the members of the council left the room, each of them looking at those they had passed verdict on. Rowan’s sister stopped in front of him and took him by his hand, pressing, secretly, something into his palm. She whispered briefly in her natural tongue leaving Rowan looking stiff. Though he hid his shock well, he blinked pocketed what she had handed to him. He would have a look at it later. Eventually the only ones left in the room were their little party plus Baelavain and Abu Abu. The dark skinned woman was draped in robes of burnt orange, her odd colored eyes slit in thought. The fair haired elf slowly took a step forward towards Abu Abu and Rowan followed without a word. He knew the ritual well. He had been a part of many Binding Oaths before. Layfon stayed in his spot, his blue eyes bright but quickly darkening to the murky grey-green of the ocean before a storm. His eyes bore into Abu Abu. If he had fur it would have been bristling. His nose twitched and he quickly pocketed his emotions towards the treacherous creature before him before lightly pulling Monica towards the circle that was forming around Abu Abu. “Susanna, Sophine.” Rowan said softly before motioning for the two to take the remaining two spots: One between Rowan and Baelavain, the other between Layfon and Rowan. Once the circle was complete, Layfon let go of the Monica’s hand. He gave her a look that just said to trust him and go with everything. It looked as though there was going to be no explanation for the human girls present and he almost protested before he saw the expression on Rowan’s face. The elf was looking directly at him with a look more serious than he had seen in quite a few years. He wanted Layfon to stay quiet and mind himself. They were no longer in the safety of the human world that they had called home for the past few years. Abu Abu stood in the center of the circle and spun around, eyeing up everyone surrounding her. She smiled politely and nodded her head before stretching her arms out, her span rather impressive. “You have agreed to perform the Binding Oath. I will be the Secret Provider. You may never break this oath once it has been performed for your tongues will not be able to speak of this location nor your minds.” The dark skinned woman pointed to her temple, her shaved head shining in the light. Her maroon eyes were scary in the darkness but both boys kept their eyes on the woman. One with interest and the other with a strong distrust. Her teeth flashed bright white and sharp. She gave off a foreboding aura but none of the men in the room seemed fazed. Baelavain looked bored, Rowan stiff but ready to be done, and Layfon as though he was torn between being formal and wanting to give a piece of his mind to the female in front of him. Abu Abu just seemed amused and spun as she spoke again. “I assume the humans here are unaccustomed with this ceremony. I will start with another first then. Give them a good role model—“ She said and paused as she came to face Layfon where her grin broadened. “Layfon.” She purred but her face quickly turned serious and she brought both hands together with a loud clap, pulling them in close to her body as though she was praying. She spread her fingers apart and pulled her hands from each other slowly to reveal a thin golden web of spun light that grew the farther apart she brought her hands. Words began to flow from her lips, unlike any language known to any man or creature, yet utterly understandable at the same time. They were wordless words that spoke of loyalty and unwavering faith. They spoke of honesty and lies and of secrets and life. Her hands moved once more, pressing the light up towards the ceiling as well as the ground. Her hands switched directions and the golden web of light grew around her in a ball of beauty that was rather captivating. Her hands converged again before pressing the ball of weaving light outwards and it encircled the entire group. Golden light alit upon all of them, sparkling about where the individual strands met. Layfon looked straight ahead as Abu Abu’s form continued to move. Sharply, she brought her hands together though they did not touch. Between them could be seen a ball of light bouncing back and forth as though it was a firefly trapped by a glass jar. Layfon inclined his head as Abu Abu’s words shifted towards him specifically, her words meaning nothing but everything at the same time. It was a powerful magic that took much concentration. She was allowing natures magic to flow through her, something dangerous to do unless you had the experience and a mind sound enough to control it. He had performed a few of these back in his days before he had met Rowan and Briony. It was a hard magic that had left him weak for a few days after. He reached his left hand out as though he was expecting her to hand him something and she asked for his name, her voice deep. Other words were spoken but none could understand them except for Layfon. “My name is Lafyon Romanov of the North. For the pride of my people, the honor of family, and the love I have for my brothers who are not of my blood.” He spoke clearly and with an air of authority that seemed to accent his handsomely exotic features. Abu Abu’s hands moved as he spoke and the web weaved between them was set free as she pushed it towards Layfon. He didn’t blink as it raced towards him and collided with his outstretched hand, palm up. Suddenly his hand tingled as though thousands of little balls of light were caressing him. The feeling moved up his arm until it covered up to his forearm which was now covered in a web of golden light. He gripped his fist and suddenly the light turned the blue of a crystalline ocean, fading until it was just a mark on his skin. That mark, too, faded. The golden web around them seemed to pulsate but stayed strong and Abu Abu turned from Layfon. The nymph lowered his arm, his eyes never leaving the female in front of him. She faced Monica, who stood between Layfon and Baelavain, next. She repeated the motion of her hands until they were close to touching, but not, the ball of light dancing between her dark hands. She looked at the human girl with the same calculating gaze as she had Layfon. The words that came from her next were only for Monica’s ears. All could hear them but only she could understand. “Give me your name child and then speak the truth of the question I ask next. Do not lie to me.” Her tone was kind but for the end where the hidden threat stood open and clear for the pretty human girl to see. If Monica hesitated to bring her arm up as Layfon had, a power tugged at her arm, gently asking for her to copy the water nymph’s movements. “Do you feel for him of your own will or do you simply allow your body to be a means for him to feel?” It was a loaded question but one that could be answered without revealing the true topic. It was impolite to ask a question in a group ceremony that could allow the personal question to be revealed. Each individual received a separate question governed by the Secret Providers experience with those she questioned and the essence of the magic around the individual’s souls. No one could predict what would be asked and to lie during a Binding Oath was as good as tarnishing ones soul. Abu Abu waited for the answer before pressing the new web of light, different from the last, towards Monica. This one was softer, more gently in its brightness. It fell upon her skin like soft silk and entwined about her fingers and her hand, fading to the pale blue of a winter’s sky. The light felt cold until the mark faded completely and Abu Abu turned again towards her next subject of inquiry: Baelavain. The process was repeated until it was the pale haired elf’s turn to speak. He was silent for a moment, his stern features seeming to be sharper in the shadowless light cast by the web around them. When his lip opened to speak, he did so in his native tongue as he raised his left hand out. ”Baelavain Myrkithak Camlina. Knowledge is a prize that far outstrips any benefit love could bring to me.” His voice held a hint of emotion, more so than at any previous time. Rowan thought that he could detect a hint of anger and Layfon’s eyes, for the first time, slipped from Abu Abu and towards the high elf. He hadn’t found the brief bout of emotion a pleasant one. The light flew at Baelavain at a high velocity, wrapping about his entire left arm in a spiral that burned even brighter gold, nearly white. It faded and left black marks that too faded, but it took much longer than the other two. It was now Susanna’s turn. Abu Abu faced the pale haired girl and the dance of her hands commenced again. Once more, the strange sensation that nudged the human to move her hand as the others came forth. It was a gentle reminder, even if it might have been an unnecessary one. “State your name, you of fair hair and bold words.” Abu Abu almost sounded amused but her expression was as fierce as ever. “Why did you leave your family behind for an elf who has yet to speak the whole truth of his past to you? Speak no lies, girl.” She spoke, words only for Susanna’s ears. The dark skinned woman waited for her answer before sending the ball of shining light towards Susanna. It warmly wrapped only about her wrist in the form of a thin web that began pulsating rose-gold in color. It dimmed until there was no more light and no marks up her skin. Rowan was next in line and he stared at Abu Abu as though challenging the female creature before him. She returned the gaze with luster and as he rose his hand, she began the hand movements as before. Beads of sweat had started to form on her brow. It was obvious that this amount of people was no small feat of magic, especially because she had no room for excess thoughts or errors. If she let the wild magic escape her grasps it could be devastating. As Abu Abu asked her question, Rowan showed no emotion, his body stiff like a soldier trained for war and his expression betraying nothing. He did not pause as Baelavain did but he did speak in his natural tongue as well. Layfon was now the only one to use English but that was allowed for his natural tongue was unspeakable unless they were under water. ”I am called Rowan Fyrstave. Choose not the path that will bring you a comfortable life but the path that forces hardship and sorrow. Only then will you be able to live happily.” he replied cryptically, his answer a quote that his Queen had once spoken to him. He had taken those words to heart ever since. The light that shot towards him landed like a chain, wrapping itself all the way up his arm, continuing to his neck, laying there as though it was a noose. It glowed hot like a fire, dancing in reds, oranges, and yellows before dissipating into nothing. At last, Abu Abu turned to the final member of the circle. Her movements had slowed, but she still moved gracefully. For the third time, the magical energies gave a gentle reminder, lightly pulling at Sophine’s arm to raise it as the others had whether or not she already had figured that bit out. Abu Abu looked at Sophine as though she was reading the girls soul. “Give me your name and then answer with honesty.” Abu Abu spoke, her words as they had been for everyone else, only for the ears of the one she was facing. “How far would you go for him, the man that you scorned yet you still long for? Are you willing to become strong to protect the ones you care about?” It was the only time she had asked two questions, a very uncommon practice but only done if the magic of the world craved an answer for something specific. The air felt tenser after she had spoken. As Sophine replied, for she had no other choice but to do so, Abu Abu released the web of golden light with alit upon Sophine’s skin like gentle kisses from a butterflies wings. It danced across her arm before settling in the center of her palm in a circle, the web intricate and sparkling as it changed colors to an emerald green that faded to moss and eventually vanished from her skin. Abu Abu spun in a circle now, her hands raised above her. There were no more words but as she spun, the web about them seemed to pulsate and grow brighter until finally, it shifted and spun upwards in spiraling arcs as a ball formed at the center of the circle. It gave three pulsations before diving down onto Abu Abu and exploding outwards in a wave of sparkling light that felt like the gentle caress of a spring wind. The dark skinned woman was kneeling at the center of their circle now, panting lightly. She stood quickly and wrapped her robes about her, looking to each of the faces about her. “I shall inform Lord Rulinju that the Oath has been completed.” She said, her voice sounding weaker than it had before. She brushed passed all of them without another word, exiting the room quickly. Baelavain stepped out of the circle after. He looked to Rowan and then Layfon after pausing by the doorway. “I will meet you within the hour.” He informed them and then took his leave as well; Layfon feeling like the high elf was rather displeased at the moment. They weren’t given any time to themselves before a squat bearded man with a little red cap escorted them from the room and back to their quarters. Then, at last, they were allowed to be by themselves. However, they had only been given, “No longer than a sphinx sleeps with both eyes closed,” according to their dwarven escort. Rowan began gathering his bag, as did Layfon. Neither of them spoke but they did expect questions from the girls and they would answer quickly, if they had the time. Neither of the males looked to be in good moods though. Even Layfon had seemed perturbed by the question he received and the answers given by others.

The Belvidere girls watched the men with them to gauge exactly what was going on when this Abu Abu suddenly summoned them forward for this Binding Oath ritual. Monica even looked hesitant about getting anywhere near this woman, especially since she had decided none of them were worth trust. They lied, did something to Layfon and Sophine, held double standards and cast them out for telling the truth. Now they wanted to send their little spy with them to keep an eye on them like children? She didn't care much for their tactic and personally wanted to knock a screw or two loose in Rulinju's skull after he did something to her sister. She had become so rigid she looked like she might break in half, not to mention she kept hugging herself, gripping her side as if trying her damnedest to hide something. It worried Monica to see her this way and she knew that wierdo had something to do with it. Call it a woman's intuition. Before her thoughts could sour further, Layfon pulled her along with him towards the circle, something she allowed because the pressure of his hand in her's calmed her some. It at least settled her nervous energy that told her things were going to be a lot harder from here on out. They would be on their own out in that war torn land. She trusted the men to protect them to the best of their ability, but still she wanted to contribute more... Layfon could probably teach her some kind of defense, maybe Rowan offense? She wasn't sure but she wasn't going to be a damsel in distress! Her mind flickered from the more energetic thoughts when Sophine joined them, staring intently at the strange dark skinned woman weaving a spell in her hands. Sophine was entranced by the light, watching it curl and wisp around them in floating arcs that resembled a thread of pure gold. She found it mesmerizingly beautiful, if it didn't partially scare her of what this Binding Oath would entail. For all she knew, someone could get hurt over this and that she wasn't willing to allow happen. Thankfully an example was made out of Layfon who spoke his name and suddenly said something that didn't make much sense to the others. Did he understand that garbled language coming from her mouth? Monica's eyes widened when the thread of light latched onto Layfon and for a moment her body shifted like she might go over to him. However, she stayed in place, watching the light fade from him and him take his place back in the circle. It was her turn next, or at least she felt it so by some strange force drawing her forward. She went to Abu Abu willingly, her eyes skeptical as the woman asked her softly for her name and to honestly answer a question. Without even noticing much else than the woman's odd glow, she hardly even realized her arm raised to, palm out. She met Abu Abu's calculating gaze with a proud one of her own. It was obvious Monica was not letting on to being intimidated. She wouldn't back down to anyone willingly. The question came as some shock, especially since that was the last thing she expected to be asked. She assumed the other's hadn't heard the question since before she hadn't heard Layfon's. However the idea that Layfon could use her feelings like that...She knew he wasn't. It didn't make sense for her to feel so sure of herself about him, let alone that an answer was already forming on her tongue before she gave the question much thought. She jumped into a portal in a fountain for him, trusted his words about caring for her enough to find what they could be, she gave up her world for his...That spoke in itself what she was willing to give him if he was honest with her... "Monica Belvidere." She stated clearly, as she fought the urge to look at Layfon as she told Abu Abu her answer. Surely he must know what she was about to say already..."My feelings are my own. I care for him and anything he needs, be it mind, body, soul..." She said before she was allowed to return to the others after receiving the odd but clean feeling mark. She didn't look at the others as she took her place, allowing the others to go up and say their piece. Sophine watched her little sister and felt a pang of fear in her stomach. That answer was not one she was very happy to hear. If Layfon asked for her soul...well she would hope Monica would be wise enough to refuse...Soon after the elves and even Susanna, Sophine was called forward. Her arms fell to her sides as she walked towards the strange woman of glowing light and she felt her body easing surprisingly at the sight of the warm glow. She was okay...whatever this was...it would be okay. When asked her name, she readily attempted to respond, but the air rushed out of her when Abu Abu's questions came. The first felt like a hit in the gut, one that she tried to push past so that she could stand there bravely like the others did with her arm outstretched and waiting. She was talking about Briony...She scorned him? Longed for him? The words touched at something in her that was tucked away in a deep dark place surrounded by a wall of guilt and confusion. She didn't know what to think of Briony anymore or even what she felt. She chalked it up to...misguided emotions placed on that fictional mask he wore over his true self. He was different when they saw him again, just as he was different in that garden with her hooves and all. She had feelings for Oliver not Briony...Or at least that was what she told herself till last night. Alone and awake, she actually wanted someone to hold her and tell her everything was okay, that things would be better, safer, and for the first time a face came to mind that she wanted to be there. She wanted to see Briony. She knew it was wrong after she had helped in his capture and had hurt him...but a part of her held onto that selfish desire in small hopes that maybe he didn't hate her... The next question came from a part of herself that she hardly let grow. She felt confidence glowing in her heart over it. She would never let harm come to her friends and would do anything to see her sister and Susanna safe if anything should happen to Layfon and Rowan. She was strong, even if it wasn't the kind of strength she had used before. She could rise up to it, she had to... "Sophine Belvidere." She said softly, her eyes intent on Abu Abu's despite her wish to look away. She needed to be strong right? Yes...for them she needed to be more than herself. "I will do anything to protect them. I can be strong..." She said, answering the easier question before her stomach clenched in anticipation of the first. Knowing she had to answer, she drew in a breath and continued. "As for him, I...want to set things right. Whatever happens, I want to do all I can to help him. He deserves that." She said before accepting the mark and moving back into line, trying to ignore that the bracelet around her wrist gave a small quiver and that the green glow had reminded her of Briony's eyes... Back in their room the girls packed, getting everything that they would need. Sophine was as silent as the rest, ready and relieved to be out of this hellish hole in the ground and away from Rulinju... Monica was not so sold on relief as much as her sister. Instead she was wondering just what the next move was. "So we aren't staying...what now?" She asked, oddly quiet for her usual point blank personality. She was trying to give them all their space, assuming that the ritual had stirred somethings up inside like it had her.

Susanna hesitated as they others left, but did as prompted to by Rowan, standing between him and the taller elf- if it were even possible. She watched fascinated as the magic was started and how it was preformed, Abu Abu looking like a lion while Layfon looked like a deer- who really loathed her? Was that what he was picking up from him? She took a few more moments in her thoughts before her attention was snapped back when the creature before them brought her attention to her. She was hesitant in a way to raise her hair yet she helped it out as she felt a small prompting for her to do from the magic. She was asked form two things, one to state her name- then the question however was more like a stab at her. She didn't know how this creature knew about her even leaving her family behind but she felt it was intrusive. Deciding she had to simply answer to get this over with as everyone else had done so far- she put her pride away and took a breath. "Susanna Marie Scott. To see the opportunities come about- one door must close before another few can open." She said in a round about way of saying that she decided to leave her family- to perhaps per sure her love interest with Rowan, to help him find his brother as well. She felt a tear or two slip past her control as it was hard to think about- that her family might never see her again- she might be without anyone but Sophine and Monica from their own world- the only people who will ever understand her there- it was hard to come to terms with completely. After she answered, the ball of light from her hands come towards her and warmly wrapped about her writs- the golden webbing almost pretty if it wasn't been a little warm for her comfort. The color however was a pretty rose color- perhaps some golden qualities to it but she wan't too sure. The marks son disappeared just as the color did, and Abu Abu's attention went on to Rowan. She watched him, seeing no hesitation from him, making her almost envious of his nerves. Eventually they were taken back to their room and Susanna glanced over at Rowan, seeing he wan't in a good mood, either was Layfon by his expression either. She herself felt a little somber- the wound of leaving her family fresh in her mind again, her heart hurt a little bit, knowing things were uncertain but she would always hope for the best and if things didn't work out with Rowan- hopefully they did however- there were other elves here. Else she would stay with Sophine and keep her company. Her mind went over what if situation a bit more before she shook her heard and ignored her own thought a little bit making sure her things were in order.

Everyone seemed a little somber as they gathered their things. Neither of the boys spoke. They weren’t even looking at each other at the moment. It was the cause of doing a Binding Oath. That was the price one paid for participating. It always brought up hard truths to speak of. That was the purpose, to make you speak a painful truth and thus binding you to silence about the one secret you all were meant to share. Pain only came to those who tried to break such an oath. Layfon was kneeling on the ground, repacking a bit of food he had stuffed into his bag. His expression was rather bland, as though he was staring at something so far off in the distance that his gaze seemed unfocused. It was rather uncharacteristic of him, but the question that had been asked of him had brought up the memories of leaving his family. The question had hinted at abandonment and he couldn’t help but feel a pinch of guilt in his gut that he had not felt for quite some time. Rowan had a similar off center gaze, his fiery eyes seeming dull like smoking embers instead of strong flames. The words he had spoken were honest and he didn’t think he would be able to live with himself if he abandoned his adoptive family, even if it was true. He could stay here with Iliana. She could convince them to let him stay. He had missed her and even thought she could be dead. It was a happy surprise to find her alive and well. Yet, he couldn’t tear himself away from the ones he cared about. He owed so much to Briony and Layfon. Without them, he would be dead. Both the boys felt that it must have been similar for the girls because they were quiet as well. Rowan noticed Susanna seemed upset in some ways but he didn’t ask. It wasn’t his place. Whatever had been asked of her, it was personal and secret and unless she wished to tell him, then he would not worry over it as it would be useless. Layfon was only pulled out of his slow moving haze when he heard Monica speak, though she had sounded so far away. He blinked and looked to her. She was quiet, a lack of feisty personality which Layfon adored. He didn’t answer, at least not right away. Instead, his attention was brought to Rowan as he shoved a knife much harder than necessary into his bag, making a noise that rather drew everyone’s attention. “We find a way to get to Briony while keeping the spy being sent with us content.” He stated as though it was the simplest task possible. Layfon stood and faced him, his back erect and expression almost haughty. “And how do you propose we start?” He questioned mouth dry in anticipation of adventure. Rowan tilted his head as he looked at the water nymph and smirked. “Gather intel and make allies.” Layfon chuckled as though there was a hidden meaning behind the words. “Of course.” There was a knock at the door and Baelavain opened the door. He didn’t enter, Layfon assuming that the elf was tired of having to bend over to stand in the room as he and Rowan did to some extent. “It is time to go.” He stated before turning around and walking away, the expectation that they were to follow obvious. Layfon shrugged his shoulders, finding the abrupt summoning annoying but expected. Rowan reached for Susanna and pulled her into a rather sudden embrace, kissing her on the side of the head. “Do not forget that I do care.” He said into her hair before letting her go and walking out first. Layfon just looked between the two with a knowing expression. The interaction seemed to have reawakened some of the playfulness of his nature and he ushered the three girls out before him, giving Sophine a rather friendly pat on the shoulder. He had noticed something off about how she was reacting to him recently but he wasn’t going to press her for an answer. The only thing he could do was just show her that he was honestly a pretty friendly guy, even if he was an emotion siphoning non-human creature based in her cultures mythology. He wasn’t a bad person. Honest. ~~~ They were led out of the underground city. It was at least an hour before they broke the surface. Baelavain had lead them through twisting caves and paths that were lit so dimly that the human girls had to rely on their companions to navigate them. When they broke the surface it was after midday, between noon and sunset. They were on the side of a mountain, trees sparse around them and the pathway rocky and hard to determine. Once they had all reached the top, Baelavain spoke in his native tongue, touching the rock next to the opening that they had come from. Instantly, there was no opening. Only smooth faceted rock. It was as though there had been nowhere for them to come from. Much to Rowan’s surprise there was a bag to the side of where the opening once was, Baelavain hoisting so as to carry it over one shoulder. The high elf also strapped a long, jagged blade to his right hip and a short, curved blade to his left hip. Rowan raised a brow in question towards him, but received only a look of someone who wasn’t going to speak. It was here that Baelavain stopped leading and just stood in place. He was silent until Layfon cleared his throat. “Where to now, Bael?” He questioned, shortening the elf’s name to see what would happen. The elf looked at Layfon and blinked. “I was ordered to follow you to wherever you go and follow you I will.” Baelavain replied simply before adding. “And my name is Baelavain, Lor—“ “Ah, okay!” Layfon replied, cutting off the high elf’s words before he could say something he didn’t want to be said. “That might be so, however, some input might be useful into where we should head.” Rowan spoke up, stepping up in front of Baelavain, his height shorter than the high elf’s and features less sharp. However, you could tell the two were of the same species for sure. Baelavain’s eyebrows twitched before he opened up the satchel bag. He pulled out a rolled piece of paper, rough around the edges. It looked ancient and as though it had been torn from a book long ago. He handed it over to Rowan who took it and opened it, revealing a map of their world. He looked up at Baelavain with an unreadable expression and said nothing. Layfon, however, had his mouth hanging agape with shock. To have such a map was a rarity these days. It was complete and if he wasn’t mistaken, it even had the old borderlines in place. Most of those copies had been taken and burned by the Fey Queen, but it seemed that luck was on their side for now. “We are here.” Baelavain pointed to a mountain in the southwestern corner of the map, and Rowan’s brow knitted together. There was more silence, Layfon peaking his head over the elf’s shoulder to see what was on the map. Rowan nudged him in the gut with an elbow and Layfon frowned, backing away with a dejected expression as he rubbed his belly, muttering to himself. “The closest village to us is Theb.” Rowan said, rolling up the map and handing it back to Baelavain. “If I remember correctly, it is a human village. It would be a good place to find shelter and information.” He looked to Baelavain who simply nodded. It was enough for Rowan to know that his assessment was correct. Layfon sighed some, and looked around. They were a long ways away from anywhere he would be accepted. “Do you all think that a good plan? It looks to be only two days journey from here.” Rowan questioned the girls and Layfon. The nymph nodded his head, giving a thumbs up. Information was what they needed right now.

Monica had to say she wasn't shocked to get a rather blunt answer from Rowan. In fact she was glad for it. Things no longer could be sugar coated for them and she preferred knowing exactly what she was getting into. And it seemed the only true direction they really had was whatever one Briony was in. However, she had her doubts. She knew their goal here was to find Briony and save him, but the last time they saw him it didn't seem the faun wanted to be saved. Instead, he looked caught up in whatever control that queen had over him. What would they do when they saw Briony again? It wasn't like they could easily break that control and bring him back....Layfon and Rowan probably knew how to but even then it seemed like they were still on the losing side if Briony was with those fairies again. She didn't want to think about the Queen or her minions now. Not when they were getting ready to be back out in the open like sitting ducks. Monica had a feeling that was why the men looked so somber, but something was bothering her about Layfon's change in behavior. He seemed distant and she wasn't sure she was okay with that. She knew she only truly got to know who part of him was, the other half, his past and family...well she felt he might never tell her. She wasn't sure if it was a trust thing, since he had been very open with explaining to her exactly what a nymph was in his world and what that had to do with them. She also wasn't sure if it was something truly terrible that he didn't want to dreg up or want her knowing. Either way...she wished there was a way to really see behind whatever wall he was putting up and maybe in due time she would find a way to do that. In the meantime, She would have to stick true to what she told Abu Abu and be there for him, while she was working on keeping her strength in tact for yet another bout of walking that was sure to be just as rough as it was the other day. As they were collected by the strange elf with the weird name, Sophine had to stifle a freak out when Layfon suddenly touched her out of nowhere, however she settled for grabbing hold of Monica's hand. She needed it after all since the way up was quite a treck through near darkness. Monica winced when they broke surface and were back in the sunlight, having to clasp Sophine's hand to make sure her sister was still there in the brief moment of blinding light. Sophine stared out at the mountains and trees, her eyes taking in the beauty of a landscape that should have been in a dream. It was gorgeous and she wished there were a way for her to just spend time to see its entirety. What other wonders could be hidden in those groves and valleys? How much more would there be for her to discover as they headed further into finding Briony? She understood now why he had such a beautiful garden back in her world, though she guessed it couldn't compare to this... She was drawn from her thoughts when Monica released her hand to go over to where Rowan and the others were. "I'm game. Soph?" Monica said with some enthusiasm, actually glad to see something interesting like a town. What would it be like? All old timey with castles and dragons and stuff? "We don't exactly have a lot of options." Sophine said with a small shrug since it didn't harm or hinder her either way.
