The trip across the sea was a tiring one, but better than the initial one that got Darius to Crete. Due to their status as free men in Crete, they were monitored closely on board but allowed some freedom on the ship. They were even given further rations, which helped drastically in the men’s appearance. It was obvious by their faces both men were grateful to be out, especially Iros who seemed to spend his days on the deck, despite the damage the sun caused him. But as he told Darius, he was enjoying his freedom to the fullest and admiring the earth the gods gave them. Darius had to admit below deck made him anxious and that he enjoyed feeling the sun and the salty air himself. Most of all, he enjoyed the opportunities to speak with his father and build that relationship. It kept his mind off things like his nerves about returning home, his fear about trouble he may have caused his friends and family, and his longing to see Anemone and their unborn child. He knew it had been a few months, but honestly his knowledge of childbirth and the whole lot was limited as men usually were not allowed to witness it. He felt terrible and angry with himself that he missed helping Anemone through this. Even if Ysold did her best to keep him updated with the spare few letters that made it to him from Corinna. He learned only a month ago she was to have twins, and that had been a shock within itself. While he wasn’t against the idea of more children, he wondered if they would be able to handle that. He helped care for Lysy, yes, but never a child of his own. It would take a lot of learning on his part, he was sure...that is if Memnon let him anywhere near Anemone or his children. No doubt they were seen as Terebourne’s now and would retain that status because of their wealth. However, Memnon had not accepted his bid for Anemone’s hand in marriage and could very well deny it even if he fathered children with her. It was a tricky situation that perhaps forced Memnon’s hand in a way...But Darius didn’t regret his time with Anemone or his love for her that created two children, only that it was at an inopportune time where she didn’t have him there. He would have to make things right, no doubt...again if Memnon allowed him anywhere near Anemone. The idea that they could be kept apart crushed him, enough so that he had to pull his thoughts away from it. Instead, he went about thinking and hoping for the time he would get to see her and their children again. When they finally ported in Rome, Darius and his father were placed in a holding cell until the trial. Thankfully, Kallista was able to greet them that morning and paid the guards off enough to get them washed and cared for. She wasn’t allowed to see them, as women weren’t allowed in jails, but she wrote to them saying she would see them during the trial tomorrow. Memnon’s presence was announced by a guard a few hours after the men had been properly clothed, cleaned, and eaten. Iros was the first to greet the man as they had once been old work associates and friends. “Memnon. I see the years have been kind to you old friend.” He said, shaking the man’s hand firmly though the bars. His expression was relieved and excited since he hadn’t seen friendly faces in a very long time. “Well beyond the stress my son has created for you. My deepest apologies he couldn’t act with more sense, but as you know he gets that from me.” He stated with a huff before motioning to Darius who looked quite awkward there in the background. He shot his father a look that spelled he didn’t appreciate the comment, but didn’t argue. He knew his messing around with Anemone landed her in a precarious position. “Hello again, Lord Terebourne.” Darius said before he rose from his bow and looked hopeful, almost desperate. “How is Anemone? The babies? Is her health fine? Did the healers say anything about them?” The questions rushed from him, unable to hold back his worry for his fiancé—well unaccepted fiancé but his fiancé none the less. He wished he could see her, wanted to hold her again, but knew that wouldn’t happen until he was a free man.

He entered the jail, it was thankfully clean and well maintained for the man, even the bedding as better then normal as these were technically 'political' prisoners and there were allowed some luxuries. HE gave the older man a broad smile and shook his hand readily with a firm hand. "Iros! Its been ages my friend! I am glad you are still kicking around." He stated but frowned a little when he apologized for his son's behavior. He released that he was shaking to look at Darius bow to him and look awkward, not that he blamed the man. When Darius bowed and greeted him he gave him a more stern look but nodded to the boy. He was thinking on a response to the man that got his daughter heavy with children before getting thrown in jail but when he rushed him with questions he couldn't help the chuckle that bubbled from his lips as he thought of how awkward he himself had been when Helen had Anemone. "Hello again Darius. We have much to speak on it seems. Anemone is fine, as are the children. The healers say they came a little early but they are as healthy as can be. I do have to say, they favor your side of the family with the blue eyes." He joked with Iros more to let the man know he was a grandparent whether he felt like one or not. "As for the children, Illia and Ferris are well taken care of. I have also decided that once this trial is cleared and you are both free men, provided you can work your way to my position again boy, you might be able to have Anemone's hand in marriage. but your going to have to work for it. Can't leave a boy in charge of my docks." he stated being serious but did chuckle at the end before looking to his old friend. "Which reminds me, I still have holds on your docking rights in the ship yards. I've kept up on yours ships and made them work while you were out. I've been collecting those funds for when your Wife requested them. I'm not sure sure remembered those but when You need I do have those funds- I've kept them from your idiot brother in law." he stated dryly since Iros know very well Memnon did not like Thaddeous.

Iros gave a chuckle at the greeting, before gesturing to himself at how he looked. "Damned right. Couldn't let the Cretian's do me in." He snickered before he gave his son a clap on the shoulder. He found the man was worrying and obviously his stomach was churning at the appearance of his lover's father. Darius winced at the chuckle from Memnon, as if he expected something like a scolding from Memnon. Instead, he got news that the twins were here and that everyone was healthy. They even had blue eyes, a Vasilliou trait. It caused his heart to beat faster and a relieved smile to reach his lips, he moved back from the bars a bit to give the man space. Iros meanwhile gave a prideful puff of his chest, happy to hear the had new children in the family. However, when Darius heard their names, his heart leapt at the news he had a two children, a boy and a girl. "Ilia and Ferris..." He said to himself, his face falling in warm wonder at Anemone's choice of names. They sounded perfect and he wanted nothing more than to hold them and love them. He and Anemone could be a family together with their children. So the statement that he had to work for her hand. He immediately sobered and gave a serious nod. "Anything I need to do, I'll do it. For Anemone, Ferris and Illia. Name the work, the place, the goal, and I'll meet it. Even if it's just for a chance..." He said before his expression eased into some worry. "I just--I ask that I can see Anemone and my kids. Even if it's all completely supervised and only every so often. I can't go on without seeing her like this." He said which drew his father out of that quiet. "I doubt Memnon would keep you from her. Just be grateful you're getting this opportunity. I know I am that he looked out for our family like this." Iros came over to the cell door and smiled brightly. "Once I'm out of here and my brother-in-law is in this cell, I'll take you up on that, while paying you interest for your generosity. The trial will be solved tomorrow and we will have Thaddeous brought to heel. And you have my son's work ethic to help." He said with a frown since he felt it was better to play it safe.

Memnon watched as Darius looked from a bit stunted to released to determined. He knew the man was willing to do what he needed to be seen as worthy, that spoke well of him. When he asked for a chance to see his daughter and his children he nodded," I am not one to keep a man from his family. We both know Anemone would be cross if I did." he stated since they both knew Anemone was much more vocal about her wants about Darius. "You will have time to rest and get into better health before the works starts. You will be groomed for your father's seat in court, Ferris will be trained, eventually for mine. Anemone has told me about your similarities to Iros here- about liking to play in the water so I figured between your father and myself we can train you to understand how the docks work from the top- since you know how they work from the bottom already." he stated letting him know he was taking his experience into account here. Memnon's focus went to his old friend and nodded,"Interest isn't needed. I took the extra capital and applied it to keeping up your ships Iros. Can't have trade with a dingy ship." he stated with a chuckle since he knew well that a ship needed repairs and made all the necessary moves to make sure the ships stayed out of dry dock. "As for the boys work ethic, it will do for now. I just want you both to rest after this trial. You might be at Lord Cyrus's house for a bit but I have successfully kept your villa from being turned into a garden for some years now, Talk about a bunch of squabbling hens in the courts. and we thought our wives were bad." Memnon joked since he had paid off quite a few parties to keep the house where it was and in one piece. It would need repairs sure but that was for Iros to oversee. "Oh and Darius- I wanted to inform you, I've decided to allow you to take on the Name Terebourne- no offense Iros of course." he stated more in a joking manner to his old friend feeling great to have him back after so long.

Darius instantly brightened at the news that he could see Anemone and the twins. He half expected that Memnon wouldn’t allow him around Anemone after all of this. But instead he seemed to be fairly reasonable about all this. That was good, it meant that he had a chance of actually meeting the expectations. Besides, any affirmation he could see Anemone was a plus in his mind. He absorbed what he could of Memnon’s thoughts and decision, finding it was reasonable. After all, he was letting Darius use his experience as a way to support himself. He would take his father’s seat on the council in time and young Ferris would one day take the Terebourne seat. It sounded reasonable all things considering...The news though that Memnon has been keeping the Vasilliou holdings safe while Iros was away was a shock, however, Darius felt it best to not spoil the deed with too many questions. After all, even if his mother has taken ownership of it in the past, the rights would have passed to the only male heir, his uncle. It was best it was inherited and called upon now... Iros chuckled at Memnon’s lively mood and shook his head. “Our wives would probably have the court disciplined and cleaned up quicker. Honestly, I even miss all the bickering after time in solitude.” He said with a smirk since he really was a man that was made for politics. He liked the challenger and the power he had to make a difference. With Memnon’s help, They would Have this city back to normal. “Thank you, Memnon. I appreciate your support. And yes, I heard Cyrus chose Lysandra as a match. Odd choice but I will be interested to see how my daughter and wife fair in his home. He always was an enthusiastic one, but it beats my intolerable brother in law.” He said before he gave a nod at the idea of Darius taking his name. “No offense taken. It’s more of a formality for the Terebourne at this point. Sound fair Darius?” Darius gave a quick nod, since honestly he had lived long enough without a last name to not care. “I can’t thank you enough Lord Terebourne or tell you really how much this means to me...” Darius said, knowing that Memnon was working for the good of his daughter and not necessarily Darius. It was still admirable. Soon the guards came by to collect Memnon as the trial was tomorrow and the prisoners were to be interviewed by an envoy for the emperor who would sit as presiding judge. The man accepted the case after a few hours of speaking with each man, not without telling them they could have a brief visitation before the trial with friends and family. With such good news, Darius slept the best he had in months, only to stirred awake by guards when they came to collect them to bring them to court. They were kept in a room for a moment to allow family to see them, as was customary if something happened to go wrong with the trial. While the thought was daunting, Darius was no less excited to see his mother and sister come through the doors. Kallista rushed the men and pulled them into a tearful hug, while Lysandra trailed only moments behind. “Iros you old fool. I thought I lost you.” Kallista cried into his shoulder to which he pulled her into a firmer hug. Darius meanwhile picked his sister up in a hug, letting her have a moment of celebration with him before he released her to go see father. When Cyrus came in with a distinct limp, Darius was briefly taken aback, but the man hardly let him take even a second to pity him. “What no tears and a hug for your best friend?” Cyrus chuckled, only to receive a hug from Darius moments later. “Thank you for reaching out to Corinna with Ysold and looking out for my family.” Darius told him softly, unable to keep the shakiness from his voice from gratuita de threatening to overwhelm him. That drew a sniffle from Cyrus that he quickly hid with a clearing of his throat. “Don’t mention it...It’s what friends are for. And for saving my life...” Cyrus released Darius who instantly looked around at the door as if expecting someone else. When Anemone didn’t emerge he tried not to look deflated as he turned his attention back to the joyful reunion with his mother, sister, and father...

"Yes please be good now Helana, watch the babies with your mommy." She stated since Ysold and the staff were watching the children while she went to the courts to see Darius. She couldn't bring the children but she could go herself. She was a little later then she wished but she was allowed in after a few moments of being cleared with the family to be allowed. Her father was accompanying her there as she stood in the hall and would wait for her. When she came in, her eyes were wet looking since she was co excited to see that man she loved after such an exhausting trial they seemed to be going through. But this was the end of that mess and she was able to put her hands on him again. She took a few steps and looked over at his father and gave a sheepish smile as she did give him a smile since she did remember the man but she did wait a moment for Darius to turn to see her since she knew that He missed his family as well. When he did turn more at the prodding of his sister, she gave her a smile before practically tackling Darius in a fierce hug and refused to let him go. After a second she pressed her lips to his in a harder manner, clearly having been a bit over whelmed with her own emotions to see the man. Shew as crying but she knew they were happy tears- gods she missed this man.

Darius’s brows furrowed when his sister pulled away from the hug and regarded what their father had looked at just beyond his shoulder. Lysandra gave him a little push to turn around and he did, expecting it to be Ysold or a judge. Instead, he was met with a body hurtling at his, one that hugged him as if trying to squeeze the life out of him. Darius immediately recognized the body, the hold, and the face of the woman who kissed him after a second of just holding each other. His heart exploded in his chest and instantly he felt the rush of emotional turmoil at going so long without her, or being away from her and not knowing if he’d ever see her again. He kissed her back with fervor, perhaps a bit too much intimacy to show in front of family but he missed her too much to care. Having her now in his arms felt like balm to wound that smarted at the idea of being apart from her. It drove him to want to cry, but he couldn’t in front of his father, even if his eyes did get misty and red. In that moment he loved her as if they had never been apart and refused to be separated from her again. His pride smarted at seeing her cry, so much so that he pulled away a moment to wipe her tears. It was probably from joy and relief but he hated making her cry regardless. “Anemone, my love. I missed you.” He said before just holding her there close, not wanting to let her go. “I’m home for good this time. I promise...No more leaving you or the kids.” He told her gently to help maybe reassure her and himself.

She accepted the kiss in return and held the man as if here were going to disappear. When he pulled away and wiped her tears she gave a breathy chuckle and gave him a soft smile. When he spoke she closed her eyes and it felt like a cool water to her nerves that had been on edge till she was able to see him. When he spoke on not leaving her of the kids again she nodded into his chest as she was almost with out words right now since she was just so emotional to have him home and with him. "I missed you-" She stated to speak but her father came in the room and patted his daughter on the head not having expected her to literally tackle the man. " I'm sorry to cut this short but the Judge is calling for order in a few moments. Its time to head out. Anemone-" Her father began but his daughter seemed to be in her own mind space. She gave her father a reluctant nod before pressing her lips to his again in a passionate manner and pulling away a fraction. "better hurry up- or I'm going to come find you." She stated more as a threat but it was a good threat that she was stating she didn't want to be without the man again after so long that and she wished to show him their children but knew that this trial needed to happen first. "That and come home for dinner, I need to introduce you to two special some ones." she stated again giving him a kiss before she let her father drag her off.

Darius accepted the kiss and let her go reluctantly himself. They needed to part only once more for things to get under way and for them to be together. He smiled gently to her and said goodbye to his family before they went to the trial room. The court room was large and filled with only the local nobility and the council. At the top of the hierarchy present was the emperor's envoy and the oldest seated council members. One notable council member was down from the council seats and was standing in judgement with the prisoners, separated by a line of guards. Either way Thaddeous glared at Darius and Iros who looked ready to gut the man themselves. However, they reserved themselves as the envoy to the emperor spoke up. "Today we are here to review the case brought to us from Crete. It appears that the charges of murder and conspracy against you were dropped with evidence of an attempted assassination, falsifying documentation, and collusion with foreign parties to secure trade and control of the port authority." He read off which drew murmurs around the room as the envoy's eyes fell on Thaddeous. "Such evidence appears to land solely on your shoulders Thaddeous Vasilliou. How do you plead?" Thaddeous gave a scoff of insult. "I have done no such thing. And any evidence brought forward is merely forgery or lies created to slander my good name." Thaddeous stated but Cyrus gave a shake of his head. "Hardly a good name. He's done nothing but frauded our judicial system to claim earning's of the Vasilliou family, what holdings he could claim and didn't sell." The accusation drove the group into another argument. Especially when a few council members stated they wished the evidence to be shown. The documents were brought forward and most that saw them all could identify Thaddeous's signature on the dealings with Lykos, the man now standing accused of having his sister murdered and attempts to frame it on Lord Terebourne but instead landing on Darius. By the time the room had grown quiet, Thaddeous looked pale and Darius and Iros both mirrored removed and annoyed looks. Obviously the man was guilty but it needed to be argued first. "Does anyone have further comment on the matter?" The envoy posed to the chamber and Cyrus rose to speak. "My wife saw the documents and found them herself. He is a danger to Rome and should be locked away. I accept the evidence brought forward." A few others agreed and a few dissented on the grounds of their not being "enough" evidence. Obviously those loyal to whatever money or power Thaddeous offered them.

Memnon had his daughter taken home and to get the children from ysold's care figuring Darius would be joining them tonight in their home to see his daughter and the children. Though the next day he was going to be sent to Cyrus's home since he knew he wasn't overly tolerant at the moment with the man sleeping with his daughter again, but he wasn't heartless. He went to sit kn the meeting and was growing for most of it. When the envoy finally stated and asked for evidence he stood after Cyrus, everyone who he knew supported him stood with him all staing it was enough evidence to convict him. "As a wounded party, I do agree that this is enough to convict, and I would see this man lay for crimes he pursued and attempted to blame on others." He stated smoothly since he had that right. ~~~~ Anemone had invited Ysold and Helena over to her estate for dinner, as Helena decided she was going to help more with the babies today. Anemone was chattering like a song bord about seeing Darius and how the staff would be making dinner for everyone and to prepare the house. The large dining table was set for guests since she assumed his family would join them as well, as they were invited. Ysold seemed pleased to be over and getting to see Darius after all.

Darius’s attention went to Memnon when he spoke up in support, drawing an angry glare from Thaddeous. His rage got the better of him, knowing by the looks in the room that he was found out and would be lucky if he wasn’t executed. All because these morons allowed themselves to be controlled by men who sided with the poor, men from impoverished beginnings themselves. “And you spineless fools will run Rome into the ground! I did what was necessary to secure this city’s future for the nobility. You will see the impoverished wipe us out and the noble bloodlines fall.” The Guards seized Thaddeous and led him away as the envoy rose. “By the power vested in me as the voice of the emperor in this court, I find Thaddeous Vasilliou guilty of all charged. Lord Iros Vasilliou and Sir Darius Vasilliou are acquitted of all charges. Welcome to your deserved freedom.” He pulled away and left the room with the armed escort. The shackles on Iros and Darius were removed, leaving them to walk free. They accepted the invitation to dinner and returned to Cyrus’s estate to clean up and dress. They arrived a little later that night, Darius excited and nervous as hell to see both his future wife and to meet his children. He was going to be the best father he could, but he felt worried he might mess up. He didn’t exactly have the best model, well after he was arrested, but he and Anemone could figure it out together. No parent was perfect after all... Kallista stayed wrapped around Iros’s arm since she was happy to have him home. Lysandra, meanwhile, filled Darius in on the twins and how the others had been. It calmed Darius to be with his family, especially his best friend Cyrus who helped to calm his nerves. By the time they arrived, Darius gave a bow to Helen and Lord Terebourne before allowing the parents to talk. Meanwhile, he went to find Anemone but was caught in greeting Ysold who pounced on him in a hug. She was a fit of joy and tears, drawing some emotion from Darius. “I’m glad your back.” Ysold told him as she pulled away to dry her eyes before she heard Helena approaching. “Uncle Dari!” She cheered and got a hug from the man who knelt down to his level. By the time the greetings got to Anemone, he passed Helena to Ysold and pulled her close for a kiss. He kept it appropriate as they had family and a child in the room. “See? You didn’t have to come drag me to dinner. I promised I was coming back.” He said before placing another peck on her forehead. “You look beautiful, by the way.” He told her before he straightened some to look more put together, despite the nervous energy that did enter his look. “So are Ilia and Ferris asleep?” He asked since he wasn’t sure really how to go about introducing himself to babies that he was excited but nervous to meet.

Helen gave Darius a smile and a nod to his bow but seemed glad to see Kallista so happy to have her husband back. Anemone was working on having the staff dress the babies to see their father and were resting in their cribs for the moment as she came out into the hall and let both Ysold and Helena see Darius. She enjoyed the handa on attention and the kiss after not having that luxury after so long. At his joke ahe chuckled but gave his chest a soft pat as she was happy he was there. When he brought up the children and look nervous she smiled softly, giving Ysold a nod that she would be back and was going to show the children to their father. Heading down the hall, she lead him by the hand to the nursery and opened the door softly bringing Darius in and making him sit in the chair and told him to wait a moment. She easily picked up Ilia and handed her to Darius- he looked nervous at first but also stunned. She next handed him Ferris, so he had both arms full. "Ilia was born first, Ferris second. Both have your beautiful blue eyes." She stated softly giving his forehead a soft kiss. She wanted him to have the time he wished since these were his children, something she was proud to share with him.

Darius wasn’t sure what to do in the nursery, as shown by the fact he fidgeted with his hands and seemed to be like a child following his fiancé like a duckling. He sat where he was told, and waited as told, even if his eyes stayed on Anemone. When she picked up the first baby, he could tell it was the little girl by the softer colors she was dressed in. He let Anemone pass her to Darius, even if he felt his nerves getting the better of him. This tiny, fragile little person was in his arms. This beautiful little girl came from them? He blinked a few times as he admired her little face and just how small she was. When she placed their son in his arms, Darius felt a bit unsure to be holding both at the same time, but put himself together since he worried the babies could sense his hesitance. “They’re beautiful, my love.” He said when she kissed his head and he gave Ilia a softer smile. “Hey, Ilia, my sweet little girl. Don’t you look beautiful. And a big sister too. You’ll have to take good care of your brother.” He said softly to the little girl who raised a hand and flapped it at him. The boy gave a gurgle, which drew Darius’s attention. “Hi Ferris, So cute and you favor your mother. I can’t wait to show you the ships like my father did with me...” He said as his voice softened, the emotion hitting him a bit stronger now. “I’m your dad.” He told the pair before giving a softer smirk. “ I’m just getting to meet you both now. But I will be here from now on. For you and your mother...” he then looked to Anemone, who was close by. “You carried these two by yourself. I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you through this. I know it must have been tough.” He said before his eyes then shifted back to the babies in his arms. “I can’t believe how small they are. I expected them to be crying or screaming. And they’re so soft. The names are perfect by the way.” He told her since she did pick quite cute names for the twins that were sure to charm the whole town.

When he was holding both of the babies he seemed a little besides himself. She watched him take in the weight of the situation and he seemed to get it quickly even apologizing for letting her be alone for that time. She shook her head softly, "I was never alone. I had Ysold, my family, and yours with me almost every day. That and I had your love with me. You are here now and can actually be apart of their lives. I say that it was a worth while absence now that you are home." She explained softly. When he gushed on how small and quiet the babies were she chuckled. "Of course, they are quiet, they get to meet their father they have heard so much about." She stated softly before Ferris seemed to start getting fussy. Anemone instantly kneeled down by Darius's leg and looked at Ferris who calmed quickly. "Hes sort of a mama's boy, no offense, gets fussy if He isn't' around me long." She picked up Ferris from Draius's hold and the child cooed softly since he loved his mother. Illia however seemed entertained with Darius' hair, seemingly enjoying to paw at it and coo. Anemone smiled softly but it made her eyes water after a moment. This image made her so happy, it was hard to explain.

Anemone’s comment back to his apology didn’t totally soothe his guilt, but it at least let him know she didn’t feel alone while he was gone. It was good to see that everyone was able to come together around her where he couldn’t. It made him feel optimistic about the future. Her further joke about them being quiet because they were meeting him made him give her a half smile. “Well we both know I’m hardly the quiet one. It’s just interesting...Even if I’ve been around babies it’s different when they’re yours. Lysandra was with the maids or mother and Helena was always fussy without Ysold.” He noted Ferris getting fussy and gave a small worried look like he might have done something to upset the boy. Instead, it seemed the boy just wanted his mother. It was a cute sight, especially seeing Anemone immediately go to the boy’s aid and way she held him close. It stirred that love for her even further, enough so that he used his free hand to brush Anemone’s cheek. “I don’t blame him. Being without you is the worst thing imaginable.” He said since honestly he felt so at peace and calm with Anemone there. “I’m thankful your father is a forgiving man. Even if I have to work a bit more for your hand officially, he’s allowing me to take the Terebourne name and still see you and the kids. Of course while at Cyrus’s place. He doesn’t trust me to behave quite yet and I don’t blame him. It’s difficult to even think straight when you’re in the room.” He said even if he wanted those things now, in a home of his own where he could be with them as a family already. But he knew he had skipped steps and put himself and Anemone in a predicament. Now he had to meet those expectations before they could be allowed to be completely together. Ilia drew his attention away from his thoughts when she reached for his hair, snagging a strand which caused Darius to give a wince but also a chuckle. “Strong grip. You might end up the fighter of the two.” He chuckled as he worked her hand free and instead smiled down at her when felt her little hand grab his finger. “I never imagined having this until I met you. Now we have two healthy children and a future to look forward to...and even with all the mess in between, I’ve never been more happy in my life Anemone.” He told her, wanting her to know where his head was at right now, especially with his daughter’s soft blue eyes gazing up at him.
