“Come on Leah, we’re going to be late!” Alex’s voice made Leah jump slightly as she looked up from her cookie to him. He was yet again standing over her with his hands on his hips and staring down at her like a scolding mother hen. She disliked it when he gave her that look. It was like the having the mother she never wanted. She took a bite from the cookie and raised an eyebrow at him, just to try his patience.
“Okay, I’ll be there is a sec. Let me finish the cookie.” She said around the food in her mouth, only making him roll his eyes.
“No, now! We’re going to miss the train!” He growled, taking the cookie from her. Like a magnet, it made her jump to her feet and reach for it. Sadly, she couldn’t reach his height of 6’3 and was left looking ridiculous as she struggled for the cookie outstretched over her head.
“Give it back, Alex! You’re not being fair!” She whined but he wouldn’t give in. Instead, he took her arm dragging her along behind him from their usual spot on the college campus grounds. She enjoyed the spot so much because it was placed on a hill with a big tree over it that provided plenty of shade. There she could sleep and escape her cousins that went to the same college. Surprisingly the jerks didn’t know when to give up, even after she’d given at least three of them black eyes and another a real pain in butt.
She wanted to laugh to herself at the thought but was too busy trying to get her cookie back. She hardly even noticed the way people looked at them as they entered to train station, her acting like a spoiled child mixed with a wet cat as Alex let her carry on calmly like a real young adult they were supposed to be. Before they boarded the floating metro like train she almost had the cookie back, but of course, Alex tossed it in the trash.
“You are unbelievable!” She grumbled, pulling her hand from his so that she could fold her arms. He simply gave her a calm smile.
“No eating on the train. And besides all those sweets will make you porky. Can’t be fat and do martial arts.” He laughed pinching her cheek, much to her protest.
“Yeah yeah yeah you-“
“Shhhh! The news is on!” An old woman next to them barked and both fell silent. The overhead radio began to crack and fizzle till finally it came to life with voice of an animated new caster.
“Breaking news today from the North city scape. Today two attacks were reported from the (ZA) group and the (RO) group. What started out as a day of cease fire between the two resulted in a bloody massacre of both residents and members. Indications of whether the (ZA) or the (RO) were involved is still uncertain. More of our story at 7. Now onto our coverage of the weather-“
Leah sighed. Just listening to the news nowadays just made her sick. War, weather, missing people, death, more war, and more weather. That was all the news seemed to report. What could she expect? After all there was a war going on. It wasn’t a defined war as most had been in the past. This was something new, a faction of four side dueling it out over some gain of power. It wasn’t even clear what their motive was. Most thought it was a struggle for land, maybe titles, or just a way of each comparing their manhood. But something always made her uneasy about the whole thing. She didn’t understand exactly why…but it just seemed so strange.
She shook her head, trying to dispel the images from the media from her brain. She couldn’t look at the bodies anymore, couldn’t watch people suffering or see the happy faces in photographs of the ones that were missing. After all, she’d seen the photographs of the people she cared about once on that screen, and didn’t care to relive the despair it brought her by paying much mind to it. Thank god she lived in a mostly neutral zone, so not much happened here except for the occasional fire fight of some of the self-righteous members.
A screeching noise roared suddenly in her ears and the train gave a hard lurch. It forced her back into Alex who held her against him while holding onto the seat in front of them. Everyone was startled by the sudden jostling of the train and struggled to stay upright. Even Alex, usually very stable, was showing visible signs of strains against the pull. Her eyes squeezed shut in fear, though her heart beat wildly in excitement. It wasn’t everyday she got this kind of adrenaline rush after all! The train slowly but surely came to a halt, relieving the startled passengers who had been struggling to right themselves. Alex gave a breath behind Leah but she noticed he didn’t release her from that tight hold.
“Hey, why are we stopping?” She asked him and could feel the jerk of his head as he shook it.
“I dunno. Maybe there’s a break in the tracks?” She nodded but something in his voice made her uneasy. Something about it seemed so unsure.
She was just about to question it, had turned to face him with a questionate look on her face when a loud boom came from somewhere in front of them that shook the whole train cab. Her head whipped in the direction of the loud noises and instantly saw the ball of fire forming racing through the metrocar in front of them.
Instincts made her body work faster than her brain and before she knew it she had shoved Alex to the ground closest to the left of the metro-car. The fire burst the windows and doors a few feet in front of them, licking upwards and consuming the people standing near them. People began panicking at that point, shrieking and running anywhere they could to get out of there. The mass of terrorized and screaming people left Alex and Leah still pinned to the floor.
“Alex, I don’t understand what’s going on-?” She tried to shout over the people but someone beat Alex to his answer, shouting “bomb!” over and over again. She blinked gripping onto Alex’s shirt unconsciously. Smoke began to fill their train car and she was beginning to feel light headed from all the smells and the lack of air. She was struggling to stay lucid till Alex started shouting something to her and struggled to his feet. Suddenly however the floor beneath them gave out a loud groan and a rumbling shook them.
Instantly after the noise had begun the cars lurched again this time leaning heavily to the side. She screamed and grabbed onto a bar just as the car began to lean forward. From the corner of her eye she could see the other train cars, all of them were slowly slipping off the tracks and down to the city bellow. It wasn’t long before their own car gave a loud creak before the burned front end ripped away from the car, exposing the monstrous fall below. She felt herself slipping and though she tried to hold onto Alex he seemed to be slipping away from her.
She looked up at him as the car started sliding, and saw the panic in his eyes as she was now hanging above the sheer drop.
“Alex, help!” She shouted and he nodded, trying his best to keep the hold he had on her. The back of the seat he was standing on gave a loud creak in protest, so much she realized what was happening. It couldn’t support both of them, not with Alex already straining to keep hold of her over the edge.
“Leah, don’t worry I’ve got you.” He kept saying but she knew for a fact he was losing his grip on her. She was slowly but surely slipping closer to her death. She looked to the seat and then at him, her eyes showing that determination that she knew he would understand. He gave her a wide eyed look, fear and anger mixing together on his expression. “Leah, don’t you dare-!” Before he could finish the thought the seat gave a sudden snap jostling the two enough that his grip loosened and Leah got the perfect chance. She instantly let go of Alex, making his hand the only thing that held onto her.
“Leah! Stop-“ He tried to catch her again but his grip failed him. In seconds she had slipped away from him and was left plummeting through the air, wind whipped around her, pulling at her hair and clothes. She was scared half out of mind at the thought of hitting the bottom, but proud that she had made this decision without chickening out. At least Alex, her childhood friend, would have a chance at safety. That was the only comforting thought she had left before she closed her eyes and everything went black...
There had been a lot of war in the past decade- many people searching to enter and control the Eternal Eden. Within it holds the power to control the very time we let slip threw our finger tips letting it age us as we die a little as the seconds tick away. If one could control time they would be the masters of the universe but when they learned of this there was a fight and they each split into 4 groups and began waging war to decide who would win- gets the power. The ME, the ZA, the MI, and the RO... Each having their open reasons for fighting. The leader of the ME is fighting for selfish uses such as saving his little sister- his only family left then leaving the world to its own demise, the RO are claiming to use it to go back in time to better understand how they got to this point in time such as breeding terms-they are very scientifically based. The leaders of the ZA and the MI are utterly selfish and engulfed with fame and gluttony. They may have an alternative reasoning but they have yet to show it.
Theo took a strong breath-his back to the side of the metro- he saw one of the enemies. the rule was to kill any one you saw that was 'wrong' meaning that man there. Drawling his knife he started approaching the man knowing he knew what was going to happen by the look on his face. Instead of moving away he turned towards Theo and a sick smile erupted on his face. Opening his coat he pulled out his un gloved hand with long sharp metal claws-he was defiantly an enemy. They were half mecha being who were selfish to self operation. They were the ME group thought why he was here didn't make much sense unless he was just traveling, putting his knife away he looked at him with a curious glance. The hand was already dripping blood before he noticed what had happened-his eyes looking down at the hand that was now inside his body- he had lodged a bomb there- it was a suicide mission he passed onto him. That wasn't right the man lodged a bomb inside his body. There were so many people no one could have really known what was going on. Shoving the man across the area- he crashed into the window knocking it out and he watched it as if fell down the steep grade. A few people yelled in shock but they ignored every one till the psycho started screaming 'BOMB' every where- people were moving frantically away from them now. The man jumped out of the train from the window and fell down the grade but had a parachute. It was a planned mission apparently he thought to himself. Damned idiots getting people killed for stupid reasons. Reaching inside his body he winced in pain, feeling around he felt for the cold metal finding it lodged under his kidneys- Grabbing hold of it he carefully pulled it from his body cavity. The blood wasn't too day- the avian species clotted fast. Looking at the timer on it as he compressed the wound it was counting down the last 30 seconds most of the train car was clear- only a few were pushing threw the door left so he put it on the floor and struggled after them and unhooked the first couple cars and stopped to look at the time before he went to the last one- 5---4----3---2... She shrugged and made a face of deliberation then jumped out of the window as well before the 1 went off and it blew the whole car to pieces-the blow enough to knock it off the track and to start its plummet to the ground below. Once out side he closed his wings and angled down to catch up with the man who jumped he wasn't too far down but just enough he was safe form the explosion. Grabbing his knife back out he slit a huge whole in the chute- making him plummet at an accelerated rate- most likely would end up being the cause of his death- but his legs were mecha and so was his arms and heart- he would probably survive.
Theo then hovered there for a few moments till he saw the cars falling but a person fell out- that wasn't good. Rushing over to the area he had to close his wings completely to catch the girl she was kinda heavy for him. Once he had his hands around the girl he snapped out his wings- wincing when pain shot threw him when her weight really came into a factor. He flew her out a few miles till he hit a building that was low enough that he could use it to block the wind and descend easier. Once he got low enough to the ground he flew her into his house- that was rather high in a tree-An old redwood- he loved them but he was sure the girl had just blacked out and not dead because she still had a pulse but he couldn't be sure. Laying her down on the couch he went to the kitchen and got her a cloth that was dampened with cool water and put it on her forehead- hoping he saved her in time before the altitude got her. Once he did that he sent and e-mail to his Superior about the day and its events and who it was and such but also about his concerns.
