Leah couldn’t help her own surprise at Ryan’s words but when she realized it was a joke she even let out a small giggle. She loved seeing how a family worked, liked hearing the closeness. It made her feel glad that people had one another to look out for them. Theo said he found her interesting, she liked the compliment, it made her feel the light hearted ease that she enjoyed. Though she wasn’t quite sure why. She didn’t do anything unique or special, and Theo was someone she enjoyed the presence of. Feeling the odd string of thoughts start to bother her a little, she did her routine of pushing her bangs behind her ears before looking back to Theo. He was looking at her, making her smile slightly in response to his. “Sure, go for it. I’m an open book after all.” She joked but possibly for them she could be more inclined to respond to anything they asked. Oddly enough she liked them, even Gerald, though he rubbed her the wrong way at times. After all, he couldn’t be so bad if his brothers actually cared for him this much.

(( no Gerald is just that bad...lol not even his mother loved him enough lol))
"Okay , so what are you taking classes for?" Theo asked like an eager child, since he himself never went to any college but was raised by the twins and taught all he needed to know without going to school. Ryan looked at Theo and smiled," We never sent him to school you see...He was home school by Gerald and my self. He never fit in in public..." Theo gave him a look that was slightly embarrassed but kinda mad about him telling Leah that. The last time he tried to sneak off to school he was made to be a freak and a threat to security and was forced into a jail cell till the brothers could retrieve. him. He didn't Like that so he never tried again. Ryan sighed at his look then smiled at him," Its not like its embarrassing to be home school- You can out test any public or private institute. You were taught by People who were there when it happened..." Ryan sat back feeling over confident in his abilities, Theo couldn't help but laugh a bit. "By the way Leah- these two an a pair of old geezers." Ryan gave him a disapproving look and threw a straw wrapper at him. Before he could throw something back the waiter appeared. "May I take you order?" Ryan nodded telling him what he wanted, then Theo did then the man looked at Leah.

Leah was at first content listening to them talk about Theo’s schooling. Home schooled, she’d always wondered what that would be like. She then was left a little stunned when Theo said something about Ryan and Gerald ages. “Old?” She looked, Ryan over and at first thought it was a joke, till she remembered he said something about Theo learning from people that were actually there. Before she could ask more the waiter came and she told him what she want to eat and if she could get more water. After she gave him a small thank you as he left she looked back to Theo and Ryan. “As far as school goes, you aren’t missing much. I’m studying to be a vet actually. I have to finish out my preliminary classes like English and College Algebra before I can move on to practices and the sciences.” Leah said though she felt a bit odd mentioning it. Even though she honestly had no patience for most people, she couldn’t help her affinity for animals. She felt that unlike humans they couldn’t ask for help when they needed it, so they needed someone to give them help. After all she had a soft spot for people in helpless situations. “But what’s this about being old? You two don’t look old…” She said, looking at Ryan’s face trying to see any signs of age. She saw nothing, he had a completely flawless and youthful glow to him. She looked over at Theo then back at Ryan. “You both look the same age infact.” She said, not conscious that they might have been joking.

"A vet, that's a booming career right now, good choice." Ryan complimented as she explained what he already knew but he was being polite, unlike Gerald. Looking slightly taken aback from her comment on being old he smiled," Well I can assure you I'm old enough to know what I'm talking about." "yeah like how rocks were formed..." Theo cracked a joke, getting a smack on the arm from Ryan. "Not... I'm only 1047 years older than you...so stuff it. I'm hardly in my prime." At that Theo snickered looking at Leah," See I told you old as dirt." That earned him another disapproving look from Ryan. "Do I have to call your brother? He might have something to say about being called old." He said with one eye brow raised like a mother would when she threatened to tell the father of the child's miss doings. Theo smiled,"He knows I think your bother old. You are old..."

((lol old as dirt, awesomeness. I don’t know why but I find this so funny.)) Leah had trouble stifling a laugh listening to the two and to cover it up she took a drink from her water. But of course she couldn’t hide her smile. She wasn’t sure why but their little back and forth was funny to her, even though she should have been more concerned as to why Ryan and Gerald would be that old to begin with. Then again, if there could be avian mix breeds there could be people with prolonged life spans. “Well if it helps any you had me fooled, Ryan. And remember Theo to be careful. You have to go home with them.” She laughed unable to contain it from her voice. She was enjoying herself with them, but it wasn't that surprising to her. Maybe Alex was just being paranoid. They seemed like such nice guys after all.

Theo smiled as she had to stifle laughter, he liked her laugh it was cute. "Well , they are part dragon - on their mothers side and part vampire on their fathers side. So they are ancient... " " gee thanks Theo, we adopted Theo by the way... We found him out side a research facility... Poor thing." Theo rolled his eyes as Ryan told his story. He hated it when he did this. "yeah yeah yeah, get on with it..." Theo gave up on making fun of Ryan because he was getting revenge. "So Leah, --" Theo was interrupted by the waiter bringing their food around to them. It was nice and hot and it was fresh. Ryan tipped him and he thanked them then left. " dig in, the food here is excellent."

Leah looked Ryan over. A mix like that was incredible, the guy had to be a legend. "Dragon and vampire...thats the coolest thing ive heard in a while." She nodded to herself at the thought till the story sunk in with her about Theo. 'So that was the story they wouldn't tell me about him...' She thought as she tried to picture the scene that must have taken place. Theo, alone in a strange place till two strangers took him in. She felt the tug at her heart strings as well as a certain sense of familiarity. She knew how it felt to be alone, but she never knew what it was like to be unwanted. She let that sink in as she glanced at him before he was interrupted by the waiter. "I'm sure. It looks delicious!" She said as the smell of the pasts wafted to her nose. She took her fork and spun the pasta around it, feeding it to her mouth for the firs bite. A brightness came to her eyes at the taste, since it was as wonderful as Ryan said. She took another bite and batted her eyes at the thought that the food was better than her mothers. She swallowed and looked to Theo. "What were you going to say Theo?" She said , wondering what it was he had meant to say before he was interrupted.

Ryan paused when she complimented him then smiled," Thank you. Most people think my brother and I are an abomination. Its good to know that some people appreciate natures works of art. " Ryan returned to his food, smiled more to himself then to any one else. Watching her eat was interesting as well, Theo had decided. "I bet you like pasta then huh..."Laughing a bit till she brought up what he had mentioned or started earlier. " OH I was just going to ask about your family. I don't want to be rude thought so don't feel pressure to answer any questions you don't feel like answering...I'm not pushy. " He turned to his food halfway threw his statement as he watched her face out of the corner of his eye. He didn't want to upset her in any way. He wanted to eat some food because he was hungry but he was nervous to eat in front of her tonight,. It was a weird feeling.

‘Abomination…that’s horrible.’ Leah thought feeling the slight pain at his words. Why did people have to treat each other so horribly? Not that she was all pro peace on earth and good will, but if people had to share this hell hole of an earth together why couldn’t they all learn to tolerate each other. I mean sure, she was surprised by the combination of man and bird and now dragon and vampire but it wasn’t like it made them bad people. Then again, Leah had a bad habit of seeing the good in everyone, except for the people that caused her harm. Speaking of which…Leah paused for a moment when he asked about her family. She didn’t want to spoil the good mood so she quickly sucked up the sadness it brought her and still kept her smile bright. “No it’s fine. Normal question right?” She said and took a drink of water to swallow down the hesitance in her throat. “They were amazing. The Emar’s took me in when I was little, from an orphanage out in lesser areas of the city. At first I thought they were nuts, Mrs. Emar being a secretary extraordinaire while her husband was the mad scientist. I remember, the first night I was there, they were taking me on a tour of the home and one of his experiments set off the fire alarm in the basement and the fire emergency sprinkler system went off, drenching us all before we could get up the stairs. It was hilarious but it also made me realize they were going to be the closest thing to real parents I was going to have.” She said, staring off at something that seemed so far off with a slightly sad tinge to her smile. “They…didn’t come home one evening. The police said it was as if they vanished completely. Since then haven’t had much to do with the other family members.” She went back to eating to push the morbid thoughts away. “But yeah I love pasta. It’s my favorite food, though I can’t cook noodles to save my life.” She said and looked to Theo with a gleeful expression. “What about you? Is your dinner good too?”

Watching her face and her expression as she told them, he grimaced, her smile was tinged with a sad expression-she was covering it up. "I'm sorry for asking. We won't bring it up. If you want I can tell you about mine-well my real family any how and Gerald and Ryan's as well...they don't mind so much...I'm a good cook. Mine is fine. Just too hot at the moment." He had pushed his food away from him when he saw how upset she was but still talked about her family, he didn't want to tell her he was sick to his stomach about her being upset-for reasons he couldn't completely explain but he was. "Did you say Emar? Like doctor Emar?"Ryan asked as familiarity with the name light up on his face. He was sitting up a bit straighter in his chair but he wasn't too sure he wanted to know the answer. Theo looked at Ryan and cocked his head in question," What do you mean Ryan? Do you remember him?"

Leah blinked when Theo began to apologize for asking about her parents. She felt herself blush slightly in embarrasment as well as annoyance with herself. Had she betrayed the feelings that the subject brought? She didn't like making others feel bad for her or even trouble them with apologizing to her. She mentally gave herself a kick when she realized she'd stayed silent and let her smile soften. "I like you guys so its no problem to let you know more about me. I'd love to hear anything you guys feel like telling me." She said but noticed something interesting change on Ryan's features. "Did you say Emar? Like doctor Emar?" He asked and Leah felt her brows furrow slightly. "Ah yeah, some people called my dad Doctor Emar, but mostly people from his work. He didn't like the title so much, so most of his friends called him John." She said and felt a small shock hit her when Theo mentioned something about Ryan remembering him. "D-Did you know him?" She asked, her voice controlled but a bit of hope shinning in it. Her father was a kind man, though outwardly he seemed like one of those uppercrust men that snubbed those around him. Once you got to know him howvere, people saw what a false idea it was, and that he was no more than a big scruffy bearded teddy bear. Then again, not many people actually knew the real him. Most of the people that dropped by the house called him Doctor Emar, and would discuss work with him so she would have to leave his office to go play somewhere else. Even as a child she remembered it was once in a blue moon that someone would call him John, except for her mom. If anything those people were as rare as it came, since his work life was one big question mark for her. After all, she knew he was a scientist but of what she had no idea. So any information she could get, from anyone was valuable to her. It might be another step closer to discovering what happened to her parents....

At her return comment Theo smiled, he was willing to tell her anything that got him closer to her, but Ryan was acting slightly weird. "I do indeed remember Dr. Emar. He was a good man however...It was his research facility that we found you at Theo...And I do vaguely remember him talking about his daughter to me at a meeting once. He said she was a beautiful thing to have a child...and that she was very promising...but I never really heard the end of that conversation..." Theo's face went from a surprised to a pale shade of horror. Looking from Ryan to The table, he wasn't sure he cold handle knowing that much. But a sentence from Leah's earlier statements brought his back to the surface of his blind silent hysteria. 'Adopted'. Taking a deep shaky breath he looked back up at Ryan as he had composed himself. He was quick at doing that. "Are you alright Theo?" Ryan asked as he had gotten out of his seat to put an arm around Theo to comfort him to keep him from reacting negatively out of shock. "I'm fine. How did you know him Ryan?" He asked with a face devoid of emotion."We-Gerald and I are the government associates that were associated with the company's research. We had to visit and look at progress ever month."
Thats when there was a chair scrapping across the floor and the little girl in the mask came over to the table with her older brother just behind her. Pulling on his sleeve she looked at Leah and Ryan. Pointing to herself then to the others, then pointing to her head. The brother looked at Ryan, "She says she knows you from..." He watched her point more and then blinked finally realizing where he had indeed seen them as well." We know you from Dr. Emar's lab-We went there with the hope that he could save my sister..."Ryan nodded to him knowing it was probably true. "So we all know Dr,. Emar from some point in our life...how interesting."Putting a hand on his sister's shoulders he looked at Leah, "I remember you from when you were about my sister's age. Thats why she remembers you...You two used to play in the hall. While your father and I talked."Leon was sure he remembered her now, her face looked similar to the little girl he remembered. Theo didn't like the turn of events but Leah looked surprised to see that they all knew her father; But it wasn't exactly a good surprised thought.

Oh, Leah was surprised but she didn’t know wether it was a good thing they were all connected by her father…or if she’d made a mistake by saying anything. She knew her father was a researcher, that he dabbled in human genetics but, to actually mutate someone to being different, put a mask and a breathing machine in a little girl and let them be jaded by everyone. The smiling man she remembered would never do something like that, but after 14 years of being a part of their family, how much did she really know about her father? Everyone was talking around her, all of them putting in words of what they knew about him. She swallowed, listening to each of them, more than a little surprised that her father was the reason she recognized Leon and his sister. “I-I did?” She looked down at the girl her face falling in struggle to remember. After a moment more an image came to her. She’d been sitting in her fathers office, playing with her favorite ribbon in her hair when two odd people had walked in. The girl hadn’t been wearing her mask then, and she was so shy that when Leah tried to talk to her, she hid behind her brother. Finally Leah offered her a small laugh and asked her if she wanted to play a game with her. The girl seemed to loosen up after a while and finally fell into a more relaxed and actually happy mood. The routine continued for a while till they suddenly stopped coming back one day, or at least the little girl did. Her brother had dropped by from time to time, but even soon that stopped…. Leah blinked at the two and nodded. “Ah, yeah. I sort of remember. You’re Mathilda.” She said and looked to Ryan. “Interesting doesn’t begin to explain this. I never, really-knew that. I’m-that’s really-“ She tried to speak but the words kept failing her. What was this tightness she felt building in her chest? Was this supposed to be a pleasant surprise or a bad one? She had watched Theo, the moment Ryan mentioned that’s where they had found him. She’d seen the color leave his face, and though he said he was fine, she knew better than to instantly assume he was. Something that changes you like that just can’t be forgotten so easily or forgiven. Though none could say if her father was directly related to Theo, it still must have been a greater shock to him than her. Speaking of shocks, would this lead to Theo hating her? She didn’t like the way that thought made her feel, it left a bitter taste in her mouth so strong she couldn’t eat anymore or look at him. “So it seems that there is a lot more about the Emar’s that I didn’t know…probably this had to do with why they just so suddenly let..” She swallowed looking down at the table, suddenly feeling…was it dizzy?

Mathilda looked at her with a smile, she remembered her well, she saved the memory because she was her first friend. She never had friends when she was little, they all thought she was too weird to be friends with. Holding out her arm she had a matching ribbon to the one Leah used to wear, she loved the color so she kept it on her wrist always. Leon sighed and pulled her arm back to her side, she had suffered a lot in her short life but he was determined to save her and give her a better life. Ryan saw her sudden overlap and was starting to get worried that she might have overloaded on information. Watching her face as she reacted to how Theo reacted was interesting as well, he never saw two almost strangers react so strongly towards each other. "Well the Emar's have paid the public offices well to keep their files under close watch, Still today they are being watched. We aren't really supposed to look at them unless we are a classified reader-- like Gerald and I are. " No one really expected Leah to pass out or at least fall out. Theo saw her starting to fall and he not really thinking had his arms around her again. Cradling her head in the crook of his neck, holding her with a comfortable tightness ."Its fine Leah, let your mind take you where you need to go...I will protect you."He whispered into her ear as he brushed her hair out of her face. He didn't know what was happening but he didn't hate her and he kinda wanted her to know that. Her face was pained when he was in slight shock. He forgot to cover it up, and he saw that in a reflection. "Is she alright?" Leon asked in concern, Mathilda looking worried about her friend. "She should be fine- her brain's way of taking all in the information is all- we should head out for the night. Its time..." Getting back into the car they left to Ryan's house. Theo was only there a few times a year but it was fun every time. It was large in a Victorian style bit most of the rooms were empty. Their wife was a bit of a neat freak so she kept the house in perfect condition. Carting her to the guest bed room just off the first floor, he layed her down on the bed. Then tucking her in, he left the room shitting the door. He wasn't too sure if she was going to be completely okay but Ryan said she would be and he trusted him. Gerald was in the living room in his robe with a toothpick in his mouth reading a book, looking at them skeptically. "Kidnapped her again?" Theo ignored him while Ryan explained what was going on... Sitting down Theo accepted the drink he was offered, Ryan having already changed into his robe to match Gerald. "So, she passed out? What did you do per chance?" Gerald said in a slightly concerned tone but only enough to not sound like sarcasm. "We were talking about her father, Dr. Emar...The one from the research facility...Thats his adopted daughter hew was always talking about..." Gerald thought for a minute his eyes flashing to Theo reading his face, seeing no emotion, "I'm guessing you know now...how your connected with Dr. Emar, so I will just say it. They died in a rather horrible accident a year or so back. She has been alone for a while now and I'm surprised she didn't remember."Theo nodded thinking of how she must have felt. " Was-was she experimented on like Mathilda and I were?" Ryan and Gerald looked at each other a frown on their face, "I'm sorry little brother but we can't give you information on files..."Theo frowned wanted to yell and throw a fit but instead just sat there and took a sip of his tea, but his movements mirrored his motive. "I know your worried about her but you have to wait for her to wake up...k?"(living space) (bed room where she will wake up)

*~~~* “Leah, no desserts this early. You’re going to spoil your dinner.” Leah blinked up at the curly blonde haired woman that stood at the door of the small library within the home of the Emar’s. For a woman in her early 30’s she didn’t look a day older 24, despite the completely formal way she dressed. There hadn’t been a time, besides at night, that she hadn’t seen her in formal attire. Leah sighed a little, her lips pursing in annoyance as she looked down at the not even bitten into cookie she held. She looked up at Mrs. Emar and gave her a pouty look. Mrs. Emar just continued to give her the look most mothers got when they weren’t going to change their minds. A chuckle came from behind the desk Leah sat in front of and she heard the chair creak behind it. “It’s alright Sofie, let her have the cookie. Chocolates a major staple for 6 year olds. Besides, Leah you promise you will eat your dinner tonight, right?” Leah looked back at Mr. Emar, at the unshaven face from days of work, at his messy brownish red hair and compassionate smile. She gave a shrug before turning back to the cookie and her doll. “Yeah, sure.” She answered simply around her bite of cookie, tugging the brush through the dolls hair. “See, honey? So, what are we having for dinner tonight, dear?”“We’re having pasta tonight. Mama is making a special kind called Carbonara, one that she hasn’t made yet so she’s been looking at recipes all morning. It’s good.. but I think it will have too much salt because she accidentally spilled some into the sauce and thought we wouldn’t notice.” The room got quiet around Leah and she felt the shock as well as the tension in the air between all of them. She looked up from her doll, her breath catching in her throat when she saw both her parent’s faces. Mrs. Emar looked like she was going to start fanning herself while Mr. Emar’s eye brows were knitted together in a confused but curious expression. “Leah, you were over at Alex’s all day…how did you-?” Mrs. Emar began but couldn’t finish, making Leah swallow hard. She looked back at the doll, trying to ignore their weird stares. “I had a dream Mamma, you know the ones where I can see stuff before it happens.” She heard Mr. Emar rummaging around in his desk drawers. Leah got to her feet, walking over to the side of his desk and reached into her pocket, pulling out his favorite pen, one of her pretty little brown bows tied at the end of it. “You dropped it, yesterday when you took me to the park. I remembered how sad it made you so in the dream I went back and grabbed it for you.” She smiled slightly, hoping this would make up for whatever she’d done to worry them. Mr. Emar watched Leah for a long moment, before a smile pulled across his lips and he took back the pen. “Thank you, dove.” He chuckled, “Good job, very good.” He ruffled her hair making Leah let out a giggle and hug him. “Anything for you daddy!” She looked down at what he was working on but Mr. Emar had already closed the thick notebook and was working on putting it in the small drawer, the bottom one to the left of his feet. It wasn’t a usual drawer, in fact it was ever hidden on that side of the desk by another plate of wood, only able to open by sliding it open. “Well then, dove, let’s go have some of your mom’s salty pasta.” He chuckled, kissing the top of her head ever so softly… In a blink she was in the library again, this time a long forgotten version of it covered with discarded papers and decaying wood. She looked around the room, trembling when she discovered she was alone. “Daddy? Mamma?” She looked around and suddenly her attention was called to the desk infront of her…something was inside of it, something she had to get to that was important. Before she could reach for the secret compartment the sound of a door opening then slamming with footsteps approaching the room echoed to her. In fear and shock, she quickly dropped to the floor, hiding under the large old mahogany desk. She heard the footsteps getting closer but was too afraid to look to see who it was. She squeezed her eyes shut, waiting and listening as the footsteps circle the desk and suddenly stopped. *~~~* Leah let out a gasp, waking up in that strange bed with her eyes full of tears. She was trembling and scared but not enough so that it would distract her from where she was. She looked around the room, trying to find something familiar. Where was she now? Her memory fell back to earlier. She’d been at lunch with Theo and Ryan. She’d met people there, Leon and Mathilda…everyone knew her father and suddenly everything went black-She felt the information instantly hit her, but not as forcefully as before. Her father had most likely been responsible for so much…was it all true? She shook her head, pushing the troubling thoughts away for the moment as she wiped the tears from her eyes. First she needed to figure out where she was and why everything looked so fancy. She got to her feet at first a bit shakily, but with a grunt of annoyance she was walking perfectly fine. She peeked out the door, looking around the large ornate hallway but not seeing a familiar face. “Theo?” She called as she took a cautious step out into the halls. She was surprised when the name left her lips. Usually she would be calling for Alex…but this time she only wanted to see one person’s face, someone that would make her feel okay. She didn’t like feeling that vulnerable or weak…but she would get over it for now.
