Darius took in the man's face and wanted to roll his eyes. Yeah, he knew the guy. Not from direct association but from people that tolerated him and his boisterous father for their money. Darius never gave him the time of day and was obstinate about it. He didn't deal with trash, no matter what kind of influence or money they had. Leave it to Poseidon to choose someone like this...When the man trudged off, calling Anemone ugly, his hand twitched as if he was going to reach out and snatch the man back, but the feel of Anemone's grip on his jacket kept him in place. He was quiet as the man left, his eyes following him until they were forced to focus on the girl when she spoke. He remembered the voice now, her words confirming his shock. It was Anemone, the girl from the docks. He turned to look at her, his expression not as soft and friendly as before. It was cold and rather serious, even though inside he was reminding himself that he shouldn't be acting tis way. He needed time to breathe and let it go, but she insisted on talking so she would get a quick answer. "You're damn right you owe me... Try not getting yourself into these situations and consider me paid in full, okay?" He said, tone harsh but soon he flinched at his own tone. He didn't like the way he spoke to her. He was supposed to be the good guy right? The one that helped her, not the one that frightened her even more. She didn't want to be pulled around by this man, to be talked to like that. She didn't seem like the type that looked for that. Not with a demeanor like that. Gods, that air of innocence she was putting off, wringing her hands and looking almost apologetic. The dress was pretty and the mask suited her, the flower of her name sake. And she smelled just like a flower, lightly so, just enough that he would care to notice. Even in the low fire light of the temple, he could see it in her body language that she was nervous, perhaps still a bit shaken from the ordeal. Whatever it was, he wanted to make her feel better for whatever reason his mind had cooked up. He gave a long sigh and his expression softening considerably. "Look, I'm sorry I raised my voice. But, you knew that guy was trouble and yet you went with him into a low lit area where you were alone. That isn't safe you know? Money can't buy class or morals...and I can't be around to keep stepping in like this.." He said, before his brows knitted and he looked her over. "He didn't hurt you did he?" He asked, tone smooth and no trace of anger there. He was worried about her, genuinely, especially since he didn't know what all went on before he arrived.

She got a glance of his face and flinched a bit, knowing she deserved his anger. She had made him step out and protect her again from herself. however her patron Deity herself wasn't the best at things either, as she was often found in bad situations. She felt his eyes on her but she knew it was only natural, since she was the weaker party, but she also thought of it as thought he were looking to see if she were injured. The few moments of silence were a bit intense since she figured he was angry at her but he finally sighed, calming down. She raised her eyes look took at his face, her blue eyes seeing how it had softened from the cold one from before. Though it had been cold it had been beautiful, the found that a positive to his anger. As he spoke she couldn't help but smile as he said money couldn't buy personality traits and she nodded in agreement. " My mother set up this date in hopes I would settle down early...I have a duty to uphold in my family but I will not tolerate ignorance from a man of no understanding of others or how to others feel. To be honest the only reason I came tonight was to see if you were here." She blurted out however a hand slapped over her mouth quickly in her show to hide what she had just said. She felt like she could be honest with him, her easily trusting self lead her to believe that, a man she had only met twice. "I'm sorry, I'm sure your date wouldn't appreciate me saying such things." She took a step back from him however, she bowed again and offered him his mask back, thinking it was a shame for him to have to wear one however. She was very formal as was usual however she was sure she had offended the man now with her honest words, she wanted to hit herself for saying such a thing. " I am fine, my pride perhaps is bruised but that is all." She said afterwards having forgotten he had asked about the rest of her. She felt as thought she should have just left and went back to the party however she wanted to stay there, with him angry or not, she simply wanted to be in the room by him, to see the pretty smile he had, the confidence he gave off, his smooth words.

Darius found that he couldn't stay angry with the girl, that it was hard to fool himself into believing he should be mad. She was a kind hearted thing, smart in her words but a fool in her senses. How could she write off duty as a reason to put herself in a compromising position? 'The same way you have, just your big enough to take it.' He thought, since he often, as Ysold called it 'punished himself' with the hard work to protect what little he could of his family's lifestyle. He was about to just nod away her response since he understood, but he was stopped by her admitting she had come to see him. It made him pause, genuine surprise on his face though it looked more confused. When she slapped a hand over her mouth, his expression fell into thought, since he was contemplating why she planned to see him there. This was an open event to the public yes, but he wouldn't have imagined finding her here. Let alone the fact that after one meeting she was already wanting to see him, hell even remembered him. He wasn't sure how to respond, wether he should do the right thing and tell her she was better off not seeking him out at parties like this. But that meant she would just go back to that life where her mother thought it a good idea to match her up with a man on solely status... Or he could indulge her here and enjoy the party. She was good company, pretty company, and he had to admit the idea of the party wouldn't be the same without a person for company. He wasn't sure what she had in mind by wanting to see him...but he could still have a little fun on the basis he probably wouldn't see her again after this night. It wasn't often the caste was forgotten and people got together like this. He smiled a bit and was about to tell her it was alright that she wanted to meet up again. But she was soon prattling off about something about his 'date' not appreciating her words. He gave a long blink, wondering who she was talking about till his face lit in recognition. "Oh, you meant Ysold? No no, she's a whore--" he paused realizing how that must sound. Either he was being rude about the girl or admitting to taking company with whores. Neither were exactly an image he wanted Anemone to associate him with. "I didn't mean it that way. She really is a courtesan. I just walked her here because she's a good friend." He was about to say 'not a good friend in THAT way' but stopped himself. He wasn't known to fumble over his words, that little spiel was new to him and made him wonder if Anemone would think him an idiot now. But who cared at this point? She said she was okay and that only her pride had been hurt a littl. He had determined now that they would have a good time and he was going to stick to the idea. He took his mask back and tied it back on his face to keep up with the rules. He used the opportunity to offer her a hand. He was dateless and dateless, this was okay and socially acceptable, right? "That being said...It's easy to fix a bruised pride. Let's go have so much fun we make everyone jealous or swoon in admiration?" He joked, wanting her to accept his offer for what it was worth. She was not worth the cruel words thrown her way by a man who had no business being around her in the first place. She was beautiful and had a purity he admired. He would just have to show her that for now, so next time that ass came around she wouldn't be afraid of him and all his talk.

She heard his harsh words about the woman he had attended with thought she wasn't judging a person by their clothes. She straightened up and looked at him a bit of a smile on her lips, it curved int he corners first before meeting the center where she spoke, "If one is such a good friend speaking ill of them is worth an apology." She said making it her opinion to tell him he should have apologies to his friends Ysold. She was teasing him however, since it seemed he had shoved aside her awkward words. She watched him take his mask back and put it back over his pretty face. she watched his movements her face calm and collected, she felt better now, safe unlike the nervous and unsettled mess she had been most the evening. His invitation however was new to her, it was almost whimsical to her ears but that was why she liked him so much, She took his hand and bowed a bit in a feminine manner. "So now we are paired for this evenings events? Won't your friend Ysold be jealous already." She joked in return but knew she could only make so many comments as such since she was feeling a bit more shy in crowded areas. They headed out into the main party room and it felt good to go with someone you actually wanted to go with, she felt a bit of a rush of excitement. Her eyes looking the room over like she hadn't been in there before because she was so miserable before she looked at the floor, now she could look around with the heavy weight off her shoulders.

Darius noticed she was joking about Ysold and it drew a chuckle from him. Ysold never got jealous, because she was the one wives and women got jealous over. She lived a life based on appearance and creating the perfect façade for a man's pleasure. She wasn't out to be the prettiest girl at the ball, just the one with enough wit and charm to dig into a few rich men's pockets. He wouldn't go about explaining that to Anemone, who now suddenly seemed shy in this crowd. It was surprising, since this same shy girl stood up to a man beating a child and a loud mouthed rich boy. She seemed to talk easily with him too. Perhaps she just didn't like crowds? Well he couldn't have her in her shell now. As she gazed out at the decorations and party goers, he noticed the way the lantern light seemed to leave a haunting glow of blue on her face from the flowers casting a shadow. It was pretty in a strange way. "Hm, I think she would be jealous that I get to spend the party in the company of a beautiful woman." He said tilting his head at the flowers. He raised a hand, gracing one petal and smiling as his hand fell away. "Oh they're real flowers. You're name sake right?" He asked, recognizing the flowers from a garden he had seen when he was younger. His mother had dragged him once or twice to meet with an old friend of hers, but he busied himself making sure Lysandra didn't get into any trouble. She was only six at the time and had a tendency to touch everything she saw. "It really is amazing work. You don' find a lot of artisans willing to work with natural mediums like flowers." He said before he observed the dance floor nearby. He was going to ask her to dance, but decided to at least get her a little more comfortable before he forced her into where the crowds were thickest.

She felt his eyes on her again as she looked about, making her pause and relish the feeling of being watched, before she turned her face too look up at him. His hand reached out and touched her mask's flower softly, she barely felt the touch but he looked surprised about the materials used. "Yes, I made my own mask, as well as my sisters and my friends. If I see them I will point them out, I do appreciate a complement on both my handy work and my flowers...I worked hard on making them beautiful to suit the people they were for." She said making it seem as thought she picked the flowers just for the people, as she had, but it was a bit more personal because they were from her own garden, where she spent most of her time cultivating and making the flowers more vibrant in colors. She couldn't help her smile when he was looking at her hard work, she liked his attention. "I think you could do with a yellow Mimosa...Bright and beautiful, full of emotions, delicate in sent yet it is protective as it is protected by the height of the tree it grows from...I think that's best." She said comparing him to a flower as she did often. "They also make a sweet tea you might like- If you like tea-But then again I'm not a big drinker so all there is left is tea really..." She said rambling more to herself then to him at that point since it was an obvious statement. Her eyes were caught by a green mask of her sisters' and her date who was wearing a black mask his hair a bit poofs as it was tossed by a random wind from a different plane. She pointed to her sister who was getting closer to them a bit as they spun about, her green mask with ivy in it looking good on her pale skin against her date who was darker- they looked great together. "The green Ivy and holly mask is my little sister. I wanted her mask to match her dress- it was more simple that way." She said with a smile as she waved at her sister who waved at her but gave her a small confused look at the man who was next to her.

Darius was surprised to hear she made it herself, let alone that she made some for others. When she went to talk about taking them from her garden, he realized that her name being of a flower was not just that. She actually had an affinity for plants. It wasn't something he had ever encountered in his family, who had more affinity towards the ocean and arts. Bt to hear of something new was interesting, especially when she began to talk of a flower that would suit him. He had to say he found it a bit odd at first, but as she continued he understood this was somthin she did for people. She compared them to the flowers she cared for...that meant something to her. To say the least he found himself a little glad she took the time to think about him. Not to mention it was a plus to be complimented by a pretty girl in ways more than looks but character as well. "Well I've never been compared to a flower before. But I kind of like it. Thank you." He said as she caught the attention of her sister in the ivy mask. The woman looked a bit longer in their directions, making Darius assume she was wondering why her sister wasn't with the other man. He noticed her sister was blonde, a curious thing they didn't find often. He wasn't a sucker for rarity though. A woman's hair color wasn't something he focused on like some men did. "That was kind of you. It works well with you sister and I'm sure her date appreciates it." He said since her date did seem fixed on her. Most likely her younger sister shared the older sisters features. Not that they could compare, since his interest was solely on Anemone. "How about a dance? I want people to see the pretty mask you made in action." He said, turning to face her and taking a step back towards the area in the center of the open plaza lit up in the colors of glass lights hanging from an old tree. Subsequently, the step he took back pulled her a bit coaxing her to follow but not making her. It wasn't an attempt to have her dance by her sister, he just wanted her to have a good time and walking around could be fun, but perhaps later to find a good place for when the fireworks began.

When he thanked her for being compared to a flower, her cheeks flushed and she panicked a bit, " I wasn't calling you feminine in any way... Sorry." She gushed a bit, feeling bad now that she had spoke her mind about her beloved flowers to compare him to them. However she was working on calming her felt down when he asked her to dance, she glanced out at the room- people twirling about, a huge static energy coming from them as joy of dancing and excitement from the thrill radiating from the center. He had her hand was was gently urging her out onto the floor, but it was obvious he wasn't trying to force her. She smiled and clutched his hand tighter, filling the space between them in two steps, she stepped into his personal space as the current dance called for. The motions were fluid and the females arts were a bit more racy as it require them to move their hips quite a bit. She oddly didn't mind this however, since she was able to dance with some one beautiful she didn't mind but her cheeks were burning the whole while, the tribal like tune played. It help odd beats that changed and required motions, the men had their own parts however, most the men there knew the foot work so she was happy to know how to dance after taking a few lessons a year from her mothers tutor. It was a more western song but it was beautiful to her, the violins sounding hypnotic almost there in the hall. They eventually made it a bit more about the room, having passed the band, she noticed Lysandra but she didn't have time to wave or stop to talk as she was enjoying dancing too much. The energy from the room had pulled her into it and she eventually closed her eyes occasionally opening them to make sure she was in sync with Darius. ((The video' music really.. It was almost perfect ))

Darius hadn't taken offense to her comparison but he wouldn't her know that, not if it meant the blush that dusted her cheeks would go away. He wanted her attention, to make her think she had to make it up to him with this little dance. He didn't expect her to go along so willingly however, or that she would pick up the steps as quickly as the crowd. It was a foreign beat, but not one he wasn't accustomed to. He was rusty in the formal mechanics of dancing but in the lower districts of the city, especially in an area prevalent on foreigners, he didn't miss the trends in dances. He just hadn't expected the girl that once was shying away from the crowd, was now so close and then away enough to move her hips with a sensuality he hadn't noticed in her. It was hard to miss it now, but he would force himself to focus. It wasn't his place to focus on something like the way her hips moved, the way she moved with music as fluid as a dancer should, or the way her eyes were shut as though she could feel the music. He caught on the rhythm in enough time to match her, though that didn't prepare him for the times her eyes would open to grace him, the dark blue irises glowing in the light in a way that made him very conscious of her. In fact he couldn't make his attention go elsewhere, not even when he felt other eyes on him. When a bit of the pace picked up, he noticed one man near him take the woman's hand and guide her closer in a small spin and he did so without hesitation. He didn't mind her close, in fact it afforded him a better look at her eyes since some of her face was blocked by the mask. When she was close he was almost tempted to remove the mask so he could see her face again. But he fought the urge down and gave her a smile. "You're a good dancer." He said low enough to her before he let her move away as the next move dictated. He went into the next step with some allotted grace, but it was obvious he didn't feel the music the way she did. Or he wasn't exactly noticing it over her anymore. ~~~ Lysandra had ben talking with Elias for a while now and found he wasn't a terrible guy. He was just serious, most likely from his father teaching him to be such. However, he bended to her whim. She actually felt that se was more dominant than he was, which was something odd for her to feel. She wasn't sure if she liked that or not, but it was a nice change from hr usual. "Wow." She hard him mutter and she looked towards where he was looking to find it was the dancers. She was surprised at the dance but thought it was oddly haunting with the music. She was intruiged, till her eyes fell on a masked man she recognized. "Darius--" She muttered excitedly and she took a step towards him, but paused when she saw who he was with. Anemone was dancing with him, rather close and in a way that made her chest feel tight. She hadn't expected her friend to find interest in her brother...that was something she would have never imagined out of quiet Anemone and her impassioned brother. "Do you know them?" Elias asked and she gave a small nod. "Yes..that's my friend Anemone." "And the man?" Lysandra looked away from Darius, trying to hide her uneasy look from Elias. "No one of importance." She said before going to grab herself a glass of wine.

Her arm raised above her head as the dance allowed, she didn't expect him to actually know part of the dance as he took her hand and spun her about close to him body. Her next step was backwards, but kept his hand in hers as she moved them a bit more into the crowd. A light smile on her lips, her eyes on him. Her dance tutor had instructed her that her facial expression effected the dance a lot. Teaching her to keep a proper hold with eyes contact and it seemed Darius couldn't take his eyes from her- not that she was complaining having the attention of the beautiful man. She had heard his comment about her dancing and it empowered her to show off a bit. She was in a mask and only five people new who she was here- she felt a bit more loose tonight with that knowledge. Anyone could be any one here. As the violin gave a low moan she let go of his hands and turned her back to as all the other girls had in the crowd. Some dates looking confused, others putting hands on their dates hips or middles depending on their level of comfort. Her arms moving fluidly, her shoulders rolling easily she moved with grace to the odd beats of the music, the strings singing her body like a string to a puppet. ((2:54-3:04 btw )) As the pace changed suddenly- the girls turned around and danced, most eyes were on the ceiling or else where but her eyes were on Darius's- his pretty eyes, so deep with emotion and strength. She moved her hips as all the other girls did but she knew Darius wasn't watching them, he was focusing on her. He wasn't very fluid with the music- she had heard it floating into her garden before, her tutor also having a band play as they learned, her and her sister. Their mother wanted them to be well off in the social world- things to be desired after and she was for once thankful to her mother for one thing tonight. Anemone's focus came back as she closed her eyes feeling him get closer to her again, the violin giving off another moan, she fell into the steps easily, hoping he could keep up as he had done fairly well in the beginning. Quite a few people were watching them, little did they notice it seemed- the music intoxicating with the body language it seemed. Amrena had gotten tired and her hips were hurting from moving them in such a manner she simply stopped and went to the side lines as only about seven couple parring continued to dance- ti was a rigorous dance to know, and it seemed her sister had taken well to them. Her eyes on her sister she let a sigh slip past her lips, she wished she could have her sister's secret confidence- when she knew she wasn't being watched- such as in dance lessons- she was a fun person to be around- but otherwise she was quiet and shy. Another par fell out leaving only six dancing, however as the dance had started it had ended, a good pace ending however. They stopped, a hip cocked to the side, a foot slightly raised at the heel hands in a poetic way almost, Amenone's cheeks went dark pink as she straighten her self out and smiled at the people who had applauded them. Some of the others bowed, she however blushed and wanted to melt threw the floor. She however looked back at Darius and smiled lightly. "I have been taking dance lessons since I was seven." She said remembering his words on her dancing skills still.

That almost confident smile she gave him let him know he had been caught with his attention on her, but he wasn't a fool enough to deny it or hide it. What was the point of lying in the fact he found the woman attractive? Maybe he wouldn't outright say it, but he was allowed to feel something towards her akin to desire right? But he was surprised to find it wasn't something so simple as that, especially when she turned from him and he lost the certain pull he had felt from her looking back at him and dancing with him. Needless to say, he didn't reach out to her like the other men did, mostly because he didn't want to mess up her movements. She was talented in whatever zone this music had drawn out of her and he had to say he liked it. But soon enough her attention was his again, though the movements were a bit faster and she fell into them with grace. Even towards the end, where he noticed others were pulling from the crowd, she was in time with the music to the last ending drum beat. Her pose made him grin and he actually clapped with the others at how well she did. She of course suddenly fell into a blushing, tensed mess since she realized a lot of people were staring at her. He couldn't blame her. He found it cute. To save her the spotlight feeling she was getting, he took her hand and pulled her a bit to the side. "You're talented. I don't think anyone didn't notice that." He told her softly, his eyes flicking towards the crowds of people and the ones that subsided their clapping. He noticed men looking in her direction and he knew that though not all the stares were pure, most were enraptured by her the way he had been moments ago, the way he still felt residual of by her now meek embarrassment at being caught outside of her formal politeness. "And dance teachers teach that? Hell even a lot of the men out there were great. Maybe I can take up a few lessons from you on a later day." He blinked at his own initiation into mentioning seeing her again, something he was not supposed to do. This was a one night thing, he wasn't creating any sort of thing here that could affect them both. That was not good for either of them. He ran a hand through his hair, though his attention was caught by food nearby. He didn't realize he was hungry till he felt his stomach clench and he gave a half smile. Maybe he would venture that way in a bit, if Anemone was alright with it. He was on a mission to make her feel a little better after all the crap that already went on. For the first time he wondered where Lysandra was and it caused his attention to switch to the crowd. All he could find in the way of people he recognized was Anemone's sister. Was his sister enjoying herself? Surely she must have been..

She felt him take her hand and pull her off tot he side a bit out of the spot lights of sorts. At his words about her being talented made her smile however she knew she had over done her self there in that dance. She felt like she had used all her dinner from before the party. Since that dance required a lot of control and movements it made her use a lot of energy. She was looking about but her eyes went back to him when he suggested seeing her again, a smile on her lips she just couldn't help. "If you come visit me I could teach you the dance...Since you know my father I assume you know where I live, for a social calling of course." She said with a smile, turning his words against him from their first meeting. She like dhow he was thinking ahead about meeting again since this had been a chance meeting honestly- she was going to prey to the gods that night before she slept to thank them for the chance encounter. Her eyes went towards the food and she put a hand over her middle. "Want some food?" She asked rather suddenly feeling famished. She wasn't being proper as she took his hand and practically dragged him threw some people to get tot he food. She hoped he didn't mind but she liked to eat when she was hungry else she got slightly snippy. They had trays of many foods, mostly festive things- including olives- she loved olives. She got a small plate and got a few olives, some kinda of roasted meat that had been sliced and served, and a few grapes. It wasn't very balanced but it looked good to her over most the other things.

Darius tried not to show the slight tenseness of his posture when she mentioned him going to call upon her. That wasn't exactly feasible. Back in the day when he wasn't considered a social pariah, he would be there in a heart beat. But now, not as Darius the son of the prestigious Vasiliou family but Darius the dock worker, to show up at her residence asking to see her would be a very odd thing. He was sure her mother, who set her up with the first man, would just love that. He wouldn't give her an answer on that, since he couldn't make himself lie to save his life and he felt that was something she had to understand for herself. It was one thing to tell her, another to show. When she suddenly announced wanting to get food, he let her take lead in dragging him along since he wasn't arguing with getting food. He didn't get to eat like this often and when he did, he enjoyed it. Her selection was interesting, but his reflected an understanding he had with himself. Eat something for protein and then you got to enjoy the sweets that were totally terrible for you. He probably worked it all off in a days work, but hey, he still enjoyed the taste of something that had a sickeningly sweet after taste. His favorite was chocolate, which this party didn't have an absence of. "So you're a gardener and a dancer, anything else I should know?" He asked, making small talk to find out more about this woman that had captured his attention.

As he asked more about her she had already put an olive in her mouth. She chewed it a second before she swallowed the food, wanting to be polite to him after all talking with ones mouth full of food was gross. "Umm, I recently had my name day, Chloris- she as the master gardener made me happy. I usually prefer the company of my plants to my own families, such as my mother- she can get pushy and get the wrong ideas as we both witnessed tonight with my wonderfully terrible match up that she was so excited about." She said as she looked at the floor, feeling bad again about having even agree to do what her mother wanted however she knew it had been for her father. She took a small bit from the meat on her plate, not even bothering with basic edict and just used her fingers as most were around her, she honestly didn't care as long as she didn't eat with her mouth open. "My mother likes to take advantage of me being quiet by shoving me into situations where I have to be heard firmly to get out, she knows I'm not like that often." She said with a sigh, chewing on her lips a little, thinking of her mother made her feel a bit down but she knew it couldn't be helped the woman favored her younger daughter she could do little to stop her.

Darius had expected her to start with her diety as most did. He found it interesting, not a sign for approval or dismissal of someone. Chloris for her. Though from study he was made do into the story of gods and goddesses he remembered Chloris was often found in compromising situations. It made sense with Anemone seeming to find trouble when she did decide to speak up. He raised a brow when she mentioned liking plants more than her family. He could curse and blame his family for quite a bit, but he would be nothing without them. He loved them dearly, even his traitorous father. But he understood the position of having a very....persistent and idealistic mother. "I suppose most people have a similar stigma with their mothers. My father used to say it was the society that made women eager to please and teach their daughters to please. I may not have a garden to turn to, but I do seem to feel more comfortable around the ocean than I do around my mother. But I know in all that has happened that she wants what's best for my sister and I. She just doesn't understand how to do that without being stubborn and overbearing." He said, plucking a wine cup from a passing server. He raised the cup to his lips. "Everyone has an intention, they make mistakes, that isn't to say you have to forgive them for the harm they cause. Just judge them fairly." He cringe at how the bitterly strong wine went down and went back to the bread with cheese cooked into it. "At least your mother has some patience to wait till your coming of age to introduce you to potential suitors. My mother dragged a girl or two home that would make you want to hide under a rock. I was 16 and already one potential match was talking about children and a house in the country. Yikes." He was able to laugh about it now, but at the time it had been hell for him. He had just lost his father and his mother who barely had anything to do with him as a child was working to make him a project to fix. She didn't want him to end up like his father, she wanted to be sure the family would be secure with him. He wasn't interested at the time, was in a sort of rebellious stage...maybe things would have been different if he did marry early and move to some vineyard her father owned... Darius took a seat on the low stone wall dividing the street and a residence, his eyes on Anemone's with a small smirk pulling at his lips. "But we must endure it right? It's the oldest job to set an example and make sure everything runs smoothly."
